MS IN CIVIL ENGINEERING
Design and improve infrastructure through modern technology with a focus on smart infrastructure and materials. Students create their own path with a choice of six concentrations: construction management; structural engineering; geotechnical engineering; environmental engineering and water resources; urban systems; and highway and transportation engineering.
MS IN CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT
Become a leader in the management of construction projects and organizations. Learn the most current professional construction practices and applications. Explore cutting-edge research in AI and robotics for design and construction. Graduates succeed with public agencies and private owners, developers, construction managers, designers, and constructors.
MS IN ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING
Focus on sustainable use of natural resources through design and operation of engineered systems using an in-depth understanding of environmental chemistry, microbiology, and hydrology, as well as pollution prevention and treatment. Graduates work in both private and public sectors in fields such as environmental assessment, remediation design, and sustainable development.
MS IN ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE
Engage in the multidisciplinary area of preserving and protecting the environment through an in-depth understanding of environmental interactions. Graduates enter fields such as environmental sustainability, urban development, and natural resource management.
MS IN TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS
Design state-of-the-art transportation systems with a focus on connected cities and smart mobility technology. Graduates gain access to career opportunities in New York City, where an increasing number of transportation engineers is required to tackle the one-of-a-kind challenges that accompany the transit systems designed to accommodate the city’s growing population, including airports and seaports.
PHD IN CIVIL ENGINEERING
Conduct original investigations demonstrating creativity and scholarship. Candidates focus on one of six civil engineering subdisciplines: structural materials; geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering; environmental and water resources; construction management; transportation engineering; and urban infrastructure systems engineering and management.
PHD IN TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS
Advance the state of the art in urban transportation systems. Graduates of this program have successfully pursued careers in academia and technical leadership in government and industry around the world. They’ve led the charge on topics such as connected and autonomous vehicle operations, Mobility-as-a-Service, and the Internet of Things, as well as their socio-technical impacts.

Drawing from the expertise of faculty across NYU schools and global campuses, we offer an inclusive and globally impactful interdisciplinary research and educational program designed to address critical urban needs. SOPHIA MERCURIO Civil Engineering, MS
While pursuing her master’s degree in civil engineering, Sophia enthusiastically conducted research in geoenvironmental engineering, including physical modeling of contaminant transport. Through the school’s K-12 STEM initiative, she worked as a graduate fellow in local schools, broadening her engineering perspective and inspiring elementary, middle, and high school students to pursue STEM studies and careers. In addition, Sophia has published three articles in leading journals. She is currently pursuing her doctoral studies in the Department of Civil and Urban Engineering.

ADVANCING INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION
Recipient of the prestigious NSF Career Award and IBM faculty award, Kaan Ozbay is dedicated to the advancement of intelligent transportation systems (ITS), from operations to safety and security. He is the co-author of three books on ITS, more than 400 refereed papers, co-recipient of several best paper awards, and serves on the editorial boards of several transportation journals. At NYU, he is the founding director of the C2SMARTER, a solution-oriented USDOT University Transportation Center taking on some of today’s most pressing urban mobility challenges. He also founded UrbanMITS Lab, where he conducts pioneering research on data-driven intelligent transportation systems problems with his PhD students and postdoctoral fellows.
