Learn to teach and mentor future cyber security leaders The NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering CSAW Summer Research Program for High School Teachers provides a unique opportunity for high school educators to receive training and development in cyber security as part of a study sponsored by the National Science Foundation, in conjunction with the NYU School of Engineering’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Ten high school teachers from the metropolitan area will be selected for six weeks of cyber security training. During the two-week “Guided Training” portion of the program, teachers will receive intensive training in cyber security by means of lectures, discussions and hands-on learning exercises. During the four-week “Collaborative Research” portion, teams of teachers will be paired with a faculty member for a collaborative research experience. The goal of the program is for attendees to develop a computer science curriculum that includes cyber security research and clubs for at their school. In the Fall, the accepted teachers are also encouraged to register a team to participate in the nation-wide CSAW High School Forensics Challenge allowing their students to participate and get a first hand experience working on security related issues. For more information on last years CSAW event, visit: engineering.nyu.edu/csaw2013 Also in the Fall, all attendees will be required to attend RET Day at NYU to showcase their research to their colleagues and school district administrators for a wider adoption of the project’s activities. The program takes place daily from 9:00am to 5:00pm. All participants are required to use their own laptops throughout the program. A laptop will not be supplied.

Ideal applicants for the program will have:
n $9,000 stipend
n A minimum of 3 years teaching experience in math, science, computer programming or networking
n A capacity to organize a cyber security club at their high school

n A willingness to work with school officials to integrate cyber security into existing math (or equivilent) curriculums
