BOOKSTORE Once you have registered for classes, you will be able to find the required and recommended textbooks for your classes through the NYU bookstore website. All you need are the catalog numbers for all your classes, and the bookstore’s website will provide you with a list of books required for your courses. Visit: bookstores.nyu.edu.
POLYTECHNIC TUTORING CENTER The Polytechnic Tutoring Center (PTC), is dedicated to giving students the personalized attention they need to help them achieve their academic goals. Services are available to all students, free of charge. The PTC provides writing, reading and English language help in our Writing Center to undergraduate and graduate students at all levels.
COUNSELING NYU Tandon School of Engineering’s Counseling and Wellness Services (CWS) Center offers a variety of services to help students achieve their maximum potential both academically and professionally, as well as socially and emotionally. Consultation, counseling and psychotherapy are confidential and included as part of your registration fees, so there is no additional cost to you. NYU NETID INFORMATION Activate and learn your NetID at NYU Start. Visit Learn your NetID at start.nyu.edu/ibin/getnetid.cgi and enter your University ID and date of birth to activate and learn your NetID (a unique alphanumeric code that NYU assigns to you, e.g. xyz123), and set a password.
How Do I Find and Activate My NYU University ID Number and NetID? NYU Tandon School of Engineering students can access their credentials by logging into the personal information section of NYU Albert. Once you have your information you will then need to activate your NetID.

ON-CAMPUS EMPLOYMENT Graduate Assistantships Gain work experience in a professional setting while you earn your degree in one of our on-campus employment programs for graduate students. As a graduate assistant, you can develop your professional skills while bolstering your credentials, bridging the gap between academia and the real world. Graduate students are actively involved with administrative and academic departmental support, such as general administration and clerical duties, advising, planning, maintenance and front desk positions. Other Funding Opportunities Specific departments also award financial aid to graduate students in the form of teaching and research assistantships. Assistantships are available for PhD students with excellent academic credentials. Students receiving this award perform teaching duties in addition to supervised research by a faculty adviser.

Graduate students can also be awarded with research contracts and grants by individual faculty members. Graduate students also have the opportunity to work as a mentor for young students in the Center for K-12 STEM Education programs, promoting teamwork through engaging lessons involving building, programming, research, creative activities and hands-on experiment competitions. SPIKE The Skill-Based Program for Incubator Knowledge and Employment (SPIKE) aims to support the companies developing in the NYU Tandon School of Engineering’s future labs while providing an opportunity for students to learn the skills necessary to find employment after completing their studies. Students will have the opportunity to directly impact the outcome of start-ups through diligent work and gain new skills that students would otherwise not be exposed to. ACADEMIC ADVISING AND REGISTRATION ADMISSIONS RECORD All Tandon School of Engineering students must complete their admissions record by providing all official final academic records and proof of degree completion. This is a University requirement.
ACADEMIC ADVISING Prior to registration, students are required to meet their academic advisers to select classes for their first semester. Information regarding academic advising appointments will be provided prior to New Graduate Student Orientation. Before meeting with your academic adviser, you should: ■ Familiarize

REGISTRATION After meeting with your academic adviser, if you have no other holds on your student account, you can register online using NYU Albert. You can access the list of course offerings and class schedules by logging on to the NYU Albert class schedule site at albert.nyu.edu/course-search. If you uploaded your NYU card photo at photoid.nyu.edu ahead of time, you may pick it up at Orientation. Otherwise, once you have made your schedule, print out your Registration Receipt from NYU Albert and take it with a photo ID to the ID Office on the Brooklyn or Manhattan campuses. This is where you will receive your student ID card, which will allow you access to campus buildings and so much more. Lastly, if you need to purchase your books, you can do so online at bookstores.nyu.edu. HEALTH AND IMMUNIZATION IMMUNIZATION In accordance with New York State law, all entering students must show proof of immunity against measles, mumps and rubella. The law prohibits the NYU Tandon School of Engineering from allowing any student to register for classes without documented proof of immunization against these diseases. Students must have the immunization form completed by the physician or health care provider who administered their vaccinations. Once completed, the Immunization Record should be submitted (via mail, fax or in-person) to:

HEALTH INSURANCE FOR US STUDENTS If you are enrolled for more than nine credits you will be automatically enrolled in the school-sponsored health insurance plan. The cost of this insurance policy will be added to your student tuition account. This insurance option is required for students who do not have insurance, whose current family health coverage is about to expire, whose health insurance is with an HMO or restricted PPO out of the area, or are international students. If you are a US citizen or permanent resident and you have private insurance with comparable coverage, you can request to waive the school plan (applying for a waiver does not automatically waive you out of the plan). NYU HEALTH CENTER Students have access to many services at the NYU Student Health Center (SHC). Students will be responsible for their co-pay, co-insurance and any portion of the bill not paid by the insurance company and SHCÂ service fees. The office visit co-pay will be requested at the time of service. The NYU Student Health Center is located in Manhattan at 726 Broadway, 3rd and 4th floors, New York, NY 10003. Students seeking care can walk in to the 3rd floor center without an appointment, but an additional $10 walk-in fee (not covered by the insurance plan) will be assessed. INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ARRIVAL PREPARING FOR YOUR DEPARTURE International students should make their travel plans to New York City as soon as they receive their visa. Note that students will not be permitted to enter the United States more than 30 days before the start date listed on their I-20 or DS-2019 form.

Documents Keep your passport, I-20 or DS-2019, SEVIS fee receipt, admission letter, original academic records, medical and dental records, and any other important documents with you in your carry-on bags. Do not put important documents in your checked bags. Make backup copies of all your important documents and keep them with you, in a different place than your original documents.
Clothing/Climate There are four seasons here. The summer (June–August) is hot with temperatures between 16-35°C or 61-95°F. During the winter (November–March), it can be very cold, with average temperatures between -3-11°C or 25-52°F. Be sure to pack some clothes for cold weather if you have them, and recall that there are shops near campus where you will be able to buy such items once you arrive.
Money We suggest you bring traveler’s checks, a credit card and/or a small amount of US dollars when you travel from your home country. This will allow you to have cash for food, transportation, hotel and other services. We do not suggest that you bring significant amounts of currency of any kind with you on your journey to New York. It is highly recommended that you set up a bank account with an institution that has branch locations in New York City after arriving.
Personal Items We encourage you to bring personal items (such as photographs and addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses for your family and friends) and cultural items (such as traditional clothing and recipes for your favorite foods) with you to New York. Other suggested items would be an international driver’s license, and marriage and birth certificates if you are coming with dependents.
ARRIVING IN NEW YORK CITY The NYU Tandon School of Engineering is located in New York City in the borough of Brooklyn and is convenient to all New York-area airports. International flights will either go to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), LaGuardia Airport (LGA) or Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in New Jersey—just across the river. In many cases, it is most convenient to take a taxi from the airport. The cost is approximately US $50. The taxi drivers are very familiar with the city. Have the driver take you to your residence hall, hotel or the hostel. Be sure to use only official yellow or green New York City taxis.
