AMBITIOUS. DEDICATED. MARITIME

CHOOSE YOUR EXPERIENCE One of SUNY Maritime’s oldest traditions is the Regiment of Cadets. However, while the regiment is one of Maritime’s most visible features, participation is not required for all students. You can choose the SUNY Maritime experience that’s right for you. The Regiment of Cadets offers a disciplined lifestyle, preparing students to earn their U.S. Coast Guard Licenses and become crew members of commercial vessels. While the regiment is a military style organization, it is not affiliated with the U.S. military, and there is no military service requirement. The regiment is also open to students not pursuing a U.S. Coast Guard License, but it is not required. Non-regimental lifestyle at SUNY Maritime is a traditional liberal arts experience. All sports, clubs, and classes can be shared by regiment and non-regiment students alike.

PROFESSIONAL PREPARATION SUMMER SEA TERM

GLOBAL CITIES RECENTLY VISITED

The best place to learn how to operate a ship is on a ship. That’s why every student pursuing a U.S. Coast Guard License completes two of three cruises—45 and 90 days— aboard our training ship, the Empire State VI. During each Summer Sea Term, you will take classes, explore international destinations, and practice the fundamentals of running a merchant vessel.

STUDY ABROAD Our training ship isn’t the only way to see the world during your SUNY Maritime education. If you are an international transportation and trade student who isn’t pursuing a U.S. Coast Guard License, you can also take part in our Summer Study Abroad program, during which you will visit European port cities, meet with maritime industry leaders, and explore unique cultural landmarks.

PROFESSIONAL INTERNSHIPS At SUNY Maritime, we understand the importance of real, hands-on experience. Our strong connections to the maritime industry and convenient location in New York City make for a wide variety of credit-granting internships available to our students.

NEW YORK CITY: A GLOBAL NEXUS SUNY Maritime’s campus is located on Throggs Neck, a quiet suburban peninsula overlooking the East River and the Long Island Sound. As one of the nation’s busiest ports, New York Harbor provides unique opportunities for learning the maritime trade—and opportunities to experience a global landmark of business and culture.

THE WORLD’S CAPITAL New York City may not be the official capital of New York State, but unofficially, it is the nation’s food, fashion, and financial capital. With public transit access from our Bronx campus, you can visit South Street Seaport, the latest Lower East Side restaurants, and the Broadway theaters around Times Square.

GATEWAY TO THE NATION In 2017, the Port of New York and New Jersey handled nearly four million cargo containers, making it the busiest port on the Eastern Seaboard. With SUNY Maritime’s reputation in the marine industry, you will be ideally situated to transition your undergraduate education into internships and careers in the city. And our graduates aren’t only working in the maritime field; you could work in any industry from facilities management to retail logistics.
