TO APPLY UMHS believes in a comprehensive approach when making admissions decisions. There is no single factor that will determine your eligibility. We assess your academic performance, motivation, and maturity to better evaluate your whole character. Please go through the steps carefully, make sure you have completed the necessary prerequisites and contact an admissions advisor if you have any questions. Please note that all documentation, other than the application and essay if completed electronically, must be sent by mail to UMHS.

Your personal statement will give us a more complete idea of you as a person and a potential doctor. In 200 words or less, tell us “Why I am considering a career in medicine” on the application page, or mail in your personal statement, listing your full name, phone number, and email address.

Two letters of recommendation (at least one from your premedical advisor or a science professor) should be mailed in directly from the appropriate institution. If your school has a premedical committee which has already evaluated you, we will accept that report instead of separate letters.

The registrar’s office of your former institution(s) should directly mail your official transcripts to UMHS. Foreign transcripts must be translated and evaluated by an approved NACES agency such as World Educational Services.

As we require the MCAT for all US citizens and permanent residents, make sure to schedule the exam if you have not yet taken it. International students whose principal language is not English, must take the TOEFL or IELTS exam. Test scores can be mailed directly to UMHS from the appropriate institutions or you can email screenshots.

Now what? Upon receipt of an application, we will review it and update you on your status within days. Afterward, you may be asked to interview at one of our four regional offices to discuss your motivation for becoming a doctor. UMHS can respond with four different offers of acceptance:Â immediate acceptance; wait-listed to join a future class; acceptance into the Extended Basic Science (EBS) program; or placement in the Accelerated Review Program. An admission decision is normally processed within two weeks after your interview. Upon acceptance, you will work with the Post-Acceptance Director who will assist you throughout the enrollment process.
