This year, the library proudly presents a few new activities for the Book Week! Learn about them below!

A Google form will be sent out regarding the students’ favourite districts in the Hunger Games, and they will be sorted into teams (“Districts”) based on their preferences from the form. On May 8 in the cover playground, they will have to collect their team’s assigned balloons from the box (the “Cornucopia”) and try to pop the other team’s balloons while protecting their own. The team with the most balloons at the end of the match wins. The maximum number of participants each round is 24 members and the time limit is 15 minutes.
NEW! Detective Booth
Participants are given clues on the locations of the memes in the library. After marking down the discovered memes, they are required to tell the librarian on duty whereabouts the memes. Prizes will be awarded for memes found.
NEW! Book Clips Workshop
The workshop will be held in the Courtyard. Book clips with lovely pom-poms are ideal presents to make for your loved ones. All materials will be provided by the Library.
Book Exchange
Activity Description
Books are wrapped so that the titles and details of books are not shown. On the cover, there will only be a picture related to the book and the genre. These books are placed on the new arrival shelf for students to choose. Students can donate their books to the library to get the wrapped books in turn.
RECURRING ACTIVITIES
Many former Book Week activities were the painstaking effort from our librarians, who felt very proud of their work despite the labour! Check out what they said about it below.
Book Hunt What could be more exciting than a treasure hunt in the library? Follow the instructions and utilize the hint cards to find your prize! While reading Agatha Christie’s or just detective fiction in general, The process of unraveling mysteries has always fascinated me. This inspired me to create fandom “ciphers” which require a certain amount of knowledge about some popular fiction series, but after realizing that this alienated some students who may not be that well-read, we made use of our school’s rich history to create the backstory of this year’s book hunt instead, surrounding a fictional librarian and introducing participants to various notable books banned throughout history. Despite our worries on the difficulty and length, most people were able to finish the hunt within their sessions. We were also pleasantly surprised by students’ attention to detail, though they read too much into mundane things and looked past the obvious clue at times. Both organizers and participants definitely enjoyed this hunt and I hope that this event can be repriced next year. --Sarah Liu, Assistant Head Librarian, 5G
Library Trivia
How much do you know about the library? Test your knowledge about the library at this stall. Â
The library has always been a place in the school where schoolmates study and read after lessons, but not many are aware of the little details within the library. This is why we held the library trivia. When we first decided to carry out this activity in the book week, we anticipated that some facts may be too imperceptible, so we turned them into multiple-choice questions and modified the questions a couple of times to get the right difficulty for the classmates to enjoy. In the end, the activities turned out pretty well and most classmates managed to get the answers correct as well. I believe that it was a fruitful experience for both the participants and the organizing librarians, who have worked very hard to get the stall running. --Edward Cheng, Head Librarian, 5A
First and Foremost Participants are required to arrange books within the series according to the correct arrangement. You have 1 minute to get as many correct answers as possible!
At our stall, participants had to re-order the list of book titles in terms of the different requirements provided. For example : lining them up in order (default challenge!), in terms of popularity, or even the publishing dates, which was harder for some series with a more abundant number of books. You’d be surprised as to how well you could actually do; oftentimes people could only recall a particular scene. It was a laughter-inducing experience as well as a wistful one when reminiscing about some of our favourite novels. - 3E Jocelyn Tsang
Book Spine Poetry What if you were to create a poem only using book titles? Challenge your creativity by utilizing book titles to craft the best poem you can imagine. Winners will be voted for and gifted!
Being in charge of the stall “Book Spine Poetry”, I was quite aware of the fact that poetry was not exactly favourable towards schoolmates and wasn’t prepared to expect as such. Yet I was surprised when an entry was made from four randomly piled books which unexpectedly turned out to be awe-inspiring. This is concrete evidence that writing a poem is never an unachievable task if one has confidence to create what they think is right. As Edgar Allan Poe once said, “With me, poetry has not been a purpose, but a passion.” Therefore, next time you write a poem, try not to think of it as a dreary task but as something you can put your passion into, and it’ll turn out just fine. Or maybe more than fine. --June Wong, Senior Librarian, 4F
