Human Osteoarchaeology in Winchester Using scientific and medical techniques, archaeologists can learn about individuals in great detail: age, sex, stature, health status and sometimes even manner of death. Experience techniques used in the study of archaeological human remains, through lectures and hands-on sessions.

Flinders Petrie and the Discovery of Egypt The day is led by renowned Egyptologist Lucia Gahlin and offers a rare chance to handle Egyptian artefacts. The Petrie Museum is a fantastic host as it contains one of the greatest collections of Egyptian and Sudanese archaeology in the world, and houses more than 80,000 objects.
16th Apr, 18th Jun & 19th Nov 2021 with Lucia Gahlin Ice Age Art at Creswell Crags The limestone gorge known as Creswell Crags is thought to have been occupied as early as 43,000 BC. On this unique day out, led by Dr Paul Bahn, we will encounter Britain’s only confirmed examples of Ice Age art among a privileged small group of just 12 participants. 11th Jun & 13th Aug 2021 with Dr Paul Bahn Roman Chester Chester (Deva Victrix) was one of the three permanent legionary fortresses of Roman Britain. Experience a behind the scenes tour of Grosvenor Museum along with lectures from our guide, before embarking on a walking tour, taking in some of the Roman walls, the amphitheatre and Roman traces that can be discovered beneath the city.
Henry VIII Hampton Court Spend a relaxing day visiting Henry VIII’s palace of pleasure – Hampton Court – with Dr Suzannah Lipscomb. Examine the architecture, visit the kitchens, State Apartments, and the Young Henry VIII exhibition, to look at the nature of his court and how the palace functioned.

4th May & 3rd Aug 2021 with Colonel Paul Beaver The Anglo-Saxon Agricultural Revolution & the Making of Medieval England Participants will be taken into the main Sedgeford excavation trench for views of features under excavation, and will also have the opportunity to handle finds. 22nd Jul 2021 with Dr Neil Faulkner Capital of the North: Medieval York Spend a day exploring York’s architectural heritage, such as the famous city walls, four fortified gates, or “bars”, and further buildings including Merchant Adventurers’ Hall and a medieval townhouse, to trace how York regained its economic, religious and civic importance in the north.
