Cruiser boys defeat rival Cardinals, head to Alaska next

Despite their efforts, the Cruisers couldn’t seal the win when they headed to Morton-White Pass Dec. 19 as they tried to make up for their earlier loss to the Timberwolves. Unfortunately, the T-Wolves had the Cruisers' number again as they downed Eatonville 95-70 in a nonleague affair.

The 13 three-pointers

Eatonville hit were not enough to counter Morton-White Pass’s Josh Salguero, who dominated in the paint with 34 points on the night. Despite Hunter Hazen's 21 and Jake Cournyer's 18 points, the Cruisers just didn’t match up well against the T-Wolves.

Lady Cruisers stay perfect at 6-0

The Eatonville Lady Cruiser basketball team kept up its winning ways taking down the Timberwolves for the second time this season, this time by a score of 57-47.

The Timberwolves kept the game close in the first quarter with Eatonville leading 16-15 after the first period.

The Cruisers began to pull away in the second quarter, taking a 4-point lead into the half.

In the third, both teams matched each other bucket for bucket, and Eatonville held a 1-point lead entering the final quarter, where Bailey Andersen scored 11 points to help give the Cruisers a 57-47 victory.

Andersen led all scorers with 23 points. Brooke Blocker added a season-high 13 points as well.

The Cruisers finished up the week before Christmas by taking on their longtime rivals, the Orting Cardinals, at Rainer Connect Arena for a non-league matchup.

Eatonville grounded the Cardinals, 60-49, to keep the Cruisers’ three-game winning streak in their rivalry series perfect behind Andersen’s game-high 23 points.

It was a tight ball game through the first three quarters as each team traded the lead many times. Eatonville trailed by one at the half and then took a 1-point lead

Flu cases very high in Washington

e Washington State Department of Health is informing Washingtonians that the u is spreading at a high rate in Washington state right now. e current u season is early this year, and u deaths are at higher rates than usually seen at this point in the year. As of Dec. 10, 40 people have died from the u in Washington including three children.

DOH strongly recommends everyone aged 6 months and older get the u vaccine as soon as possible. It can help keep individuals from getting severe illness or spreading the disease and prevent hospitalizations in an already strained healthcare system. If someone does get the u when they are vaccinated, it’s typically milder with fewer complications. e vaccine also lowers the risk of needing medical care.

e most common strain of u seen so far this year is in uenza A (H3N2). is strain typically causes more severe disease. All available u vaccines provide protection against H3N2.

Flu can be especially dangerous to people who are under 5 years

e u vaccine is available at most pharmacies, healthcare provider o ces and clinics.

In addition to the u, other respiratory illnesses such as COVID-19 and RSV are making both children and adults sick and overloading hospitals.

DOH recommends:

• Get up to date on any vaccines that are due. is includes the yearly u vaccine and any COVID-19 boosters for those 6 months and older. Vaccination is the best defense against many serious diseases.

• Wash hands frequently with soap and water. Use hand sanitizer when soap is not available, and hands are not visibly soiled.

• Consider wearing a mask in crowded or indoor settings.

• Sneeze or cough into the crook of arms or a tissue so germs aren’t put onto hands or in the air.

• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
