Welcome to First Hill First Hill is Seattle’s first residential neighborhood, perched directly east of downtown. Our neighborhood rose to popularity in the late 19th century and was home to many of early Seattle‘s most influential residents and pioneer families. By the beginning of the 20th century, First Hill was a bustling neighborhood of mansions, row houses, single family homes, boarding rooms, churches, hospitals and commercial services. In the mid-20th century, high-rise buildings began to develop, as well as Yesler Terrace, the nation’s first racially integrated public housing project. Today, First Hill is a rapidly growing, urban neighborhood with an exciting and diverse mix of businesses and residents.

Over the years, FHIA has been dedicated to addressing issues of housing affordability, high-rise development, construction impacts, insufficient public space, accessibility, homelessness, and a growing residential population. We champion a dynamic and safe First Hill for all, through: • advocacy on key issues affecting the neighborhood; • providing a forum for discussion; • programming community events; • tracking and communicating important changes and their impact to the community; and • connecting residents, visitors, and employees to create the best and most livable neighborhood possible.

MEETINGS & COMMITTEES Public Meetings First Hill Improvement Association holds public meetings every other month beginning in January. These meetings are an opportunity for First Hill residents, business owners and employees to learn about what is happening in First Hill. Tuesday, May 14th 2019 6pm at Skyline, 725 9th Avenue Tuesday, July 9th 2019 6pm at Frye Art Museum, 704 Terry Avenue Tuesday, September 10th 2019 6pm at Glaser Auditorium Swedish First Hill campus, 747 Broadway Tuesday, November 12th 2019 6pm at Frye Art Museum, 704 Terry Avenue

URBAN DESIGN & PUBLIC SPACE COMMITTEE FHIA members gather monthly seeking ideas to continually improve the pedestrian environment in our village. Using the First Hill Public Realm Action Plan we review new housing projects to encourage development of four street concept designs; acquire additional public space; reutilize three existing parks and encourage commonality among three walking loops. Urban Design & Public Space committee meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month at 1pm at Horizon House, 900 University Street.

TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE The FHIA Transportation Committeeâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s goal is equitable access for all residents, workers, patients, and visitors to First Hill including Walking, Transit, Cycling, and Driving. In addition, we work to make the streetscape more inviting and safer for people of all abilities wherever and whenever possible. We work closely with the UDPS Committee as well as numerous county and city agencies. Transportation committee meetings are held of the first Monday of every month at 5:30pm at Skyline, 725 9th Avenue.
