The Riverwalk is something the Davis family say they enjoy and they encourage their guests to experience it for themselves. “We tell people when they come, you can park your car here and wa lk dow ntow n to explore,” Davis said. “It helps bring people downtown,” said Poulin of the Riverwalk and the Great Falls. The local YMCA has much to offer The Auburn-Lewiston YMCA provides programs for the entire community The Auburn-Lewiston Y MCA is the first Y in the state to implement the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, or OBPP for short. The Y is taking proactive steps to stop and prevent bullying by adopting OBPP, the most researched and best-known bullying prevention program today. Bullying is not just a school or organizational issue; it is a community issue and a public health issue. OBPP not only includes organizational and classroom/program components, but also works with individuals, parents and the community. “We feel it’s important for the Y to be a leader in the community, and taking on this responsibility helps ensure a healthy climate for members, participants, and the larger community.” Implementing the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program is a long-term commitment to making the Y a safer, more positive place to be. This program is not a curriculum designed for only a few weeks. Rather, it is a coordinated effort by all the staff to supervise and intervene when any bullying happens. An OBPP Kick-Off Event is scheduled for Friday, September 7th from 6-8 p.m. at the Y. Following the introduction of OBPP at the Y, we will continue with a Family Fun Night that includes children’s activities and Family Swim from 6:30-8 p.m. This Kick-Off Event is FREE to all, but please pre-register at the Y at 62 Turner Street in Auburn (next to the Androscoggin county courthouse). For more information about the program and/or ways to become involved, contact the Mary Murphy Program Coordinator at 795 4095, or visit www.alymca.org/.
