Outlook: EL is poised to make another playoff run. The Eddies have veterans that should carry the team early on as the young players adjust to the varsity level. Defense will need to be solid
with a young netminder in the pipes. Coach's comment: “With the graduation of nine seniors and several First Team All-East players, our program will have to rely upon our younger talent earlier than expected. The coaching staff is excited to have one of the largest and more talented freshman classes its had in years. ELHS Girls’ Basketball Coach: Craig Jipson (eighth year) Last year's record: 17-4, lost in Eastern A final. Returning players: Seniors — Kate Sawyer (5-6 guard), Ashlee Arnold (5-6 guard); Juniors — Kory Norcross (5-8 guard), Danielle Rock (5-8 forward); Sophomores — Brooke Reynolds (5-8 forward), Tianna Harriman (5-7 guard).
Key losses: Crissy Lewis (forward), Kelly Philbrook (guard), MaryKate Masters (guard), Emily Hartnett (guard). Promising newcomers: Sophomores — Callie Murray (5-5 guard), Molly Murray (5-5 guard), Erlena Hairston (5-9 forward), Nicole Ouellette (5-7 forward), Makayla Norcross (5-8 guard); Freshmen — Emily Jacques (5-11 center), Sarah Hammond (5-5 guard), Karlie Stubbs (5-9 forward). Outlook: EL lost some size and depth from last year but still return most of its experience and talent. Arnold and
Norcross were both all-conference players on a team that fell just short against Cony in the regional final. EL still has just one senior in Sawyer. So there's a lot of promising young talent to fit into a seasoned group. Coach’s comment: “We have a young athletic roster that will be very fun to coach. They’re a great group of kids who will get after it defensively and play well together. If the young kids improve enough, we could be competitive come tournament time.” — Coach Craig Jipson

Latlippe (Forward). Key losses: N/A Promising newcomers: Freshman — Abby Roy. Outlook: EL/Leavitt had a strong season last year making it to the regional semi-finals and look to go even deeper this season. They didn’t lose any players from last year’s squad. If the chemistry carries over from last season, they should be one of the top contenders coming out of Eastern Maine. Coach's comment: “We have a lot of experience and talent returning from last year's team, but will need some of the freshmen and players who have not seen a lot of game action to contribute. Even though we are two schools, we have truly come together

work remain throughout the season, we should reach our goal of winning a playoff game this year.” — Coach Shon Collins
Freshmen — Madison Brooks, Katie Cowan, Meaghan Dube, Grace Hayes, Emma Paradie, Kristein Morissette, Abby Potvin; Boys: Seniors — Brandon Polisky, Brandon Smith, Hunter Bishop; Sophomore — Jake Bazinet; Freshman — Michal Cwik, Outlook: The girls’ team is expected to remain strong, led by seniors Goulette, Gagne and Levesque as well as Paione, a sophomore, and Paradie, a freshman. The boys’ team has doubled in size and should be stronger, led by seniors Paione and Stubbs and Cwik, a Andrew Paione Olivia Paione Rachel Gagne freshman. Coach’s comment: “We return 22 boys and girls, and we have added 21 new swimmers, many with competitive swimming experience.” — Coach Scott Morrison
Key losses: Ben Bowles, Nigel Bowles, Jesse Williams, Phoebe Chamberlin, Hannah Fournier. Promising newcomers: Boys: Freshmen — Tanner Dillingham, Gareth Robinson, Isaac Elliott, Trent Robbins, Levi Sterling, Jack Adams; Girls: Freshmen — Brooke Lever, Delia Demers, Anna Hathaway. Outlook: The Eddies are very young and keeping things simple to start. But if they peak at the right time, they have the talent to make noise in Class A. Cote, Mancini, and Blanchard
have top-10 potential. If they reach it and some freshmen emerge, the boys could surprise in Class A. The girls should be strong with Lever, the defending KVAC champion in the giant slalom and runner-up in slalom.

will be the team’s strength, and Flaherty liked to use a running, pressing style during his tenure at Morse. They have arguably the best goalie tandem in the state. With the experience gained by going to the state finals last year, they are in position for another deep playoff run. Coach's comment: “Unusual for Saints to possess this much experience in both goal and defense at the same time, now we just need to find some consistent goal scoring.” — Coach Steve Ouellette
Kayla McLellan
Outlook: The Saints lost seven players from last year and have only 10 on the roster. Only four of them have varsity experience. Greco is the only player that has started. St. Dom's will be young and learning as the new players adjust to the varsity level. Coach’s comment: “We’re very young, but I like the chemistry and enthusiasm of this group. Oxford Hills Girls’ Basketball Coach: Nate Pelletier (eighth year) Last year's record: 8-10 Returning players: Seniors — Abbie Eastman (5-4 guard), Alex Rowe (5-8 forward), Molly Johnson (6-0 center), Kelsey DeBlois (5-9 forward); Juniors — Brooke Murch (5-10 forward), Crystal West (5-6 guard), Claire Gregory (5-8 forward);
Oxford Hills Boys’ Basketball Coach: Scott Graffam (14th year) Last year's record: 5-13 Returning players: Seniors — Jordan Croteau (60 forward), Ryan Godin (6-0 guard), Kenny Lynch (5-11 guard), Jake Plummer (6-2 forward), John Frechette (6-2 guard/forward); Junior — Matt Beauchesne (5-7 point guard).
Oxford Hills Wrestling Coach: Tony Stevens (sixth year) Last year's record: 11-15 in dual meets Returning athletes: Seniors — Jake Hall (132), Dustin Edwards (285); Junior — Jon Hankey (126); Sophomores — Cordell Brooks (113), Malik Geiger (160). Edward Little wrestler: Junior — Sheldon Bang (145). Key loss: Justin Cummings (220). Promising newcomers: Junior — Josh Little (195); Sophomore — Jeff Merrill (170); Freshman — Kyle Dexter (138). Sophomores — Kerseyanne Goyette (5-3 guard), Anna Winslow (5-11 forward), Mikayla Morin (5-7 guard). Key losses: Abby Morton (guard), Ashley West (guard) Promising newcomers: Senior — Merrissa Scarborough (5-7 guard); Sophomore — Shannon Kriger (5-9 forward); Freshmen — Tianna Sugars (5-11 center), Ally Hanley (5-4 guard), Jayden Colby (5-6 guard). Outlook: The Vikings graduated just two players and have an experienced core back. Eastman,
an all-conference guard, is a driving force in the back court while the Vikings also have some size in the post with Rowe, Johnson, DeBlois, Murch and Winslow. Rowe was also a KVAC pick. After another near-miss of a playoff spot, the Vikings could contend for a tournament spot. Coach’s comment: “We are a very athletic group that has high expectations. We feel we can compete with all teams in the league. With some of the younger girls’ roles increasing, it will be fun to see the growth throughout the season.” — Coach Nate Pelletier
Key losses: Josh MacDonald (6-3 center), Deric Hanscom (6-1 forward), Brian Lynch (6-0 guard), Alex Ferguson (6-0 guard), Brandon Campbell (6-3 center), Mike MacDonald (6-1 guard), Nick Record (6-0 guard), Tyler Brown (5-8 guard). Promising newcomers: Juniors — Luke Davidson (6-3 center), Dalton Rice (6-2 guard), Riley Chickering (5-11 guard), Caleb Fillebrown (6-1 guard/forward), Adam Kenney (5-6 guard), Ben Morton (6-0 guard); Freshman — Andrew Fleming (6-3 guard/forward).
Outlook: Oxford Hills graduated eight seniors, but Graffam expects the team to be stronger overall. The Vikings' quickness should pay dividends. Beauchesne is an outstanding leader at the point. There isn't a great deal of size, but Croteau and Godin provide some football toughness on the boards. Coach's comment: "We should much improved from a year ago. We will look to create points from turnovers and fast break." — Coach Scott Graffam
Skyler Bang (138), Mike Williams (182), Matt Adams (195). Outlook: The Vikings lost only one wrestler to graduation, and the total number of athletes has nearly doubled to 24. That should give Oxford Hills the depth to achieve its goals of finishing above .500 and in the top half of the KVAC. Hankey and co-captain Edwards placed in the top four of the conference meet a year ago. Little's return from an injury that wiped out his sophomore season will provide added boost. Coach’s comment: “We qualified three kids for states last year. We’d like to improve on that.” — Coach Tony Stevens Coach: Deborah Loveless (25 years) Assistant coach: Jessie Becher Seniors: Ashley Blake, Ashley Charlton, Kayla Decateau-Hodgkin, Libby Sanborn, Ambyr Sargent; Juniors: Lindsay Day, Amanda Foster, Ashley O'Neil, Jordan Schorr; Sophomores: Libby Belanger, Lauren Emery, Chloe Foster, Elizabeth Gillespie, Tiffany Herrick, Jenna Hutchinson, Cassidy Lowe, Leanna Wielki; Freshmen: Casey Cossar, Prentiss Kurtz.

Valente was an allconference pick as well. Playoff spots in Western B will be tough to come by, but the Patriots have a veteran group that should be competitive in the WMC and chasing a tourney spot. Coach’s comment: “If we continue to work hard and stay healthy, I believe we should be able to compete each night. Promising newcomers: Boys: Freshmen — Chad Richards, Steven Sylvester, Wyatt Simoneau; Girls — Paige Butterfield, Veronic Davis, Samantha Slovak, Emerald Rodriguez. Outlook: The boys’ alpine team is coming off a fine showing in its inaugural campaign and has a strong nucleus returning complemented by some new contributors to defend its conference title. The junior program has also infused enough new skiers into the program for the Phoenix to field their first girls’ team this year, and it could be a competitive debut with Acritelli and Couture leading the way. Coach’s comment: “We hope to repeat as MVC champs and move up in the Class B state championships.” — Coach Ken Jacques
Sylvester, Wyatt Simoneau, Camden Noll, Nick Esty; Girls: Freshmen — Paige Butterfield, Destiny White, Carly Noll . Outlook: This year will be Spruce’s first year fielding a girls’ team, which will be led by Gats, who returns after missing last season with a wrist injury. With three seniors back to anchor the team, the boys should be solid once again. Butterfield and Timberlake finished top six in the Skimeister standings in Class B last year. Outlook: Spruce will be inexperienced after losing the top seven players from a team that beat Class C champion Dirigo during the season and routed Wells in the Class B tournament. Theriault and Ryan saw limited minutes on that team. The rest of the team is raw but talented. The Phoenix will have athleticism but not a wealth of size. promise last year. Many of the sophomores contributed significant minutes and could be ready for bigger roles this year. Coach’s comment: “Despite some serious graduation losses, I believe we will be right back in the hunt for an MVC title. That certainly is a goal of ours. We had numerous freshmen get some quality experience a year ago. We have made some gains with what we expect from our players defensively. If we continue to buy inito our defensive philosophy than I think the future is bright.” — Coach Gavin Kane

Dirigo High School Dirigo Boys’ Basketball Coach: Travis Magnusson (second year) Last year's record: 22-1, Class C champions Returning players: Seniors — Travis Frost (5-10 guard), Hunter Ross (5-7 guard), Robbie Babb (6-2 forward), Chad Snowman (5-10 guard); Junior — Dylan Kidder (5-11 forward);
Dirigo Girls’ Basketball Coach: Reggie Weston (sixth year) Last year's record: 8-11, lost in Western C prelim Returning players: Seniors — Gretchen Bradbury (5-6 forward), Kayla Gaudin (5-9 forward), Alexis Noyes (5-1 guard), Ambyr Wilson (5-8 guard); Juniors — Lindsy Crutchfield
Sophomores — Kaine Hutchins (6-1 forward), Tyler Frost (5-9 guard). Key losses: Caleb Turner (5-11 guard), Josh Turbide (5-10 guard), Cody St. Germain (6-4 forward), Ben Holmes (6-2 forward), Mitch Stanley (6-5 forward). Promising newcomers: Junior — Isiah Brown (6-2 forward); Sophomore — Nick St. Germain (6-3 forward); Freshmen — Clay Swett (6-2 forward), Riley Robinson (6-0 guard), Gavin Arsenault (5-11 guard).
Outlook: The concept of success breeding success seems to apply to Dirigo, which lost four of its starting five from the Class C champions but remains a force in the MVC and the state. The Frost brothers and Babb should supply plenty of offense. Ross is a superb defender. Dirigo’s reinforcements saw plenty of varsity playing time in a slew of one-sided games last season, and the Cougars had the top JV team in the league. It all adds up to a likely run at a fifth consecutive regional title.
(5-4 guard), Kelsey Wilson (5-5 guard); Sophomores — Meagan Bradbury (5-5 guard), Jessica Conant (5-9 guard/forward), Kelsey Hutchins (5-9 forward), Rachael Knight (5-9 forward). Promising newcomers: Sophomore — Gabby Scott; Freshmen — Sabrina Daud, Makenzie Lord, Emma Lueders, Lauren Henderson, Mariah Lafleur,
Kyle Palmer, Summer Bradbury, Haley Turner, Anna Morrow. Outlook: The Cougars lost four regulars from last year and most of their offense. Many of the returning players will step in larger roles. Dirigo will be young but have some depth. Coach’s comment: “This group can be fun. They work hard and are not afraid to hit the floor. The MVC looks tough again this year, but we want to be right in the thick of it.” — Coach Reggie Weston

Bryan Blackman (145). Promising newcomers: Seniors — Dylan Lord (138), Spencer Trenoweth (182); Freshmen — Gus Brown (119), Griffyn Smith (106). Outlook: Dirigo is primed for a run at the regional and state titles. The Cougars return 12 of 14 starters from last year’s team, and Smith is among the newcomers expected to make an immediate impact. Baldinelli, Barnett and Lombardi were state runners-up a year ago. Coach’s comment: “Last year’s team won more tournaments and more dual meets than any team in Dirigo history. Expectations are very high.” — Coach Doug Gilbert

Outlook: Danylik was named coach only a few weeks before the start of practice, but he inherits a senior-dominated club that should contend for the MVC title and a return to the Class B floor in Portland after a year away. Theriault is perhaps the most dangerous outside shooter in the conference. The point of emphasis in Danylik’s new system is defense, and so far he likes what he sees. The Falcons don’t have much size, so crashing the boards will be essential to their success.
Outlook: The Falcons will build around four wrestlers — Burgess, Jacques, Gill and Nate Boucher — who placed in the top four at states a year ago. Thornton was seeded to score points, as well, before he was sidelined from that meet due to illness. Beyond that group, Mountain Valley is relatively young in terms of varsity mat time. Bean is hoping for a couple of a late arrivals that would bolster the team considerably. Even with their current roster, the Falcons again should challenge Fryeburg for Western B supremacy. Winthrop High School Maranacook / Winthrop/Hall-Dale Boys’ Hockey Coach: Andy Dube (third year) Last year's record: 10-9 Returning players: Seniors — Matt Plourde, Zack Glazier, Tyler Stockford, Tom Pietroski, Tyler Plante. Juniors — Nic Lacasse, Jared Hanson, Zack Besette, Zack Phinney, Dan Condon. Key Loses: Jason Laporte, Ian Palmer. Promising newcomers: N/A. Outlook: The MHW Hawks will be a competitive bunch who will be trying to lock up a playoff spot. Offensively, Dan
Condon and Matt Plourde who had 39 and 29 points respectively should again lead the way. Tyler Plante had solid numbers in net last year and will also be a key to the Hawks’ success. Coach’s comment: “I have no idea what this season will bring. We are hoping to make the playoffs, and be around .500. We have a goalie that is returning for a second full season, and 10 repeat players that should contribute.” — Coach Andy Dube

Carter Hunter Kilgore and Allen’s continued development are crucial for the Ramblers, who will regularly feature a rotation with no player taller than 6-1. Promising newcomers: Juniors — Nick Conrad, Tyler Cherkis,
Austin Ryerson; Sophomore — Maverick Grififn; Freshman — Cam Pike. Outlook: Telstar sputtered into the 2011-12 playoffs and took it on the chin in a preliminary loss at Sacopee Valley. Only three players return with significant experience, so the Rebels may take a while to find the range.
