Killing Jesus Review
http://to ned-abs.co m/killing-jesus-review/
I am a Christian, believer, f ollower, and servant of God. I have to be honest when I f irst heard the title of this book Killing Jesus I wasn’t sure if I wanted to read it or not. I didn’t know if this was a book to blaspheme my God and Savior, or if it was a book on the crucif ixion. I decided to look a little f urther into this book to see what it was all about. I realized that this book is a historical account of the lif e of Jesus and how he was crucif ied. It is not a religious book, but more of a historical book depicting the lif e of Jesus as well as many other political and religious leaders. I do have to admit, I did not research every single item portrayed as f act in this book, but f rom what I can see details seem to be pretty accurate based on what I already know f rom reading the Bible on my own. I decided to give the book a shot and see what it was all about.
So the book starts out giving a lot of history. Going back to the mid 40B.C . T he book gives great detail on the lives of Julius Caesar, Augustus Caesar, Cleopatra, Marc Antony, Pontius Pilate, and Harod the Great bef ore it ever gets to the lif e of Jesus. At one point in time I thought I might have been reading a new book Killing Caesar. I have never really given much thought to any of these people, but seeing the history is a good illustration of the Roman Empire and the takeover of Judea.
Getting past the history and on to the lif e of Jesus was where things started getting interesting f or me. Reading a book that actually f ollows the lif e of Christ as I have always learned in the Bible was a nice surprise, and made this a nice read. Granted there are a f ew conversations mentioned in the book that I wonder how the author’s specif ically “know” what was said, but they did not add nor take away f rom the events as they should have been portrayed.
When the book got to the part of the actual crucif ixion I was expecting a little more to show the mere torment, pain and suf f ering that Jesus f aced. I was actually dreading getting to that part of the book because knowing what Jesus f aced is pretty gruesome, but the book seemed to tone it down, or at least I didn’t get the mental picture of how I always picture the crucif ixion. Don’t get me wrong this book had some gruesome details, but I think there needed to be more to capture the essence of what was going on. T his book details what happened, but it seemed like I read it, and it was over very quickly. I didn’t get the sense of pain and torment that Jesus really f aced. So I think more time, and detail could have been given to this part of the story.
Overall the book was a good read, and I hope that anyone that reads it can see the f acts of Jesus’ lif e and if they are not a believer will become one af ter reading this book. God works in mysterious ways so hopef ully this book will be a conduit to bring others to Christ. I would recommend that you buy and read this book: Killing Jesus.
I have not yet read Killing Kennedy nor Killing Lincoln, but they are both on my list.
