Sustainable Building 2013: Retrofit The challenges, innovations and advantages At present the landscape for Scotland’s construction industry is rapidly changing and no more so than when it comes to retrofitting. The Scottish Government has set out how Scotland will meet targets to reduce carbon emissions from 1990 levels across all sectors by 42 per cent by 2020 and 80 per cent by 2050 following on from the Climate Change (Scotland) Act 2009. There is also the requirement to reduce energy consumption by 12 per cent by 2020, as set out in the Energy Efficiency Action Plan. For Scotland to achieve these targets we must focus on retrofitting for the future, not only existing housing stock but all Scotland’s older public and historic buildings. This conference will discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by retrofitting our current building stock to help achieve Scotland’s carbon emissions reduction targets through expert opinion and evidence based case studies.
