The ongoing war in Ukraine has had a significant impact on the daily lives of Ukrainians. Since the conflict began in 2014, people in the affected areas have faced a range of challenges, including displacement, economic hardship, and psychological trauma.
Despite these challenges, many Ukrainians have shown remarkable resilience in the face of the conflict. Communities have come together to provide support for those in need, and many individuals have demonstrated a strong commitment to rebuilding their lives and their communities.
Coming from Dnipro myself, I have decided to capture impact on daily life, focusing first on unnoticeable signs of war around me. Subtle changes that war brings to our daily life.
Ways it redefines meanings of everyday words and adds new context.
[duct tape] - material, commonly used to protect windows from shatterting into smaller and more dangerous pieces in case of a missile strike
[”hedgehogs”] - metal tank traps made of metal angle beams, used to block roads and bridges
[sandbag] - properly placed sandbags can protect buildings with large glass areas in case of a missile strike
[metro] - underground transport network, mainly used as a shelter during massive missile strikes
[blackout] - a result of a targeted missiles strikes that have destroyed much of country’s energy infrustructure
[power outage schedule] - 4-hour blocks of power
