innerworlds an experiment using camera obscura
Governments have decreed social isolation, making cities empty and the population protecting themselves inside their homes. Covid-19 is definitely one of the most important historical facts of our time. Each one is living a different experience in his new routine but at the same time, in every home, there is a common feeling, the desire for contact with the outside world. It is precisely in view of this shared desire that the “Inner Worlds project appears. Using a technique called Camera Obscura, dated from the 6th century, it was possible to project an image of the external world inside the houses of friends, unifying the inner world with our life outside.
saudade If you born in Brazil, surely you will grow up listening how living in other countries is much better. London, as many big cities in the world, has a huge brazilian comunnity that came with the promise of a better life. And in parts that’s is true. Financially talking, it’s really good for those who came to London. In other hand, brazilian people has a unexplainable happy way to live. Beautiful nature, amazing music, friendly people, and a very rich culture. Brazil is definitely a place you can be very happy. This series of photos is an experimental project to explore the “Saudade”, that is a untranslatable Portuguese word that means the recollection of feelings, experiences, places or events that once brought excitement, pleasure, wellbeing, which now triggers the senses and makes one live again. It describes a deep nostalgic longing. Using analog camera, it was possible to double expose the film, first photographing the brazilians living in London, then I rewound the film, came to Brazil, and photographed what they have “saudade” of their home country.
reconnect Human beings are increasingly losing the feeling of belonging to nature, and seeing them more as owners of it. That is surely due to the constant change to a more technological and urban world, where people are being taugh that they do not need nature to live. But they forget that the air we breathe, the food we eat, the water we drink, all come from natural resources. This project explores the perfect fit between humans and nature. After all, we are nature and we will always going to be.
otherangle Living in big cities makes you observe architecture much more, since nature is replaced by buildings and skyscrapers in the city. It is really common to walk around London streets and come across constructions at every corner. The noise of the machines takes over the routine of each citizen, and it is considered something normal for the population. I always liked to build things since my childhood, consequently I went to study engineering in college. In the end, I decided to quit the course and pursuit a life inside photography, but this ability has always been within me, and that’s why I decided to use the camera’s resources to create a new angle to observe these constructions.
