Welcome to Spring Enrichment Programme 2024 Stephen Perse Holiday Enrichment Programmes offer children the opportunity to engage in, explore and experience a wide variety of age-appropriate activities, whilst incorporating childcare support for working parents during school breaks. Our programmes welcome Year 1 to Year 9 children from other schools across the local area and overseas, as well as existing Stephen Perse students. For families considering Stephen Perse for the next stage of their children's academic journey, our enrichment programmes offer a great insight into our values and ethos as a school. And for those joining us for the next academic year, the Summer Enrichment Programme in particular, will provide a wonderful setting for new students to familiarise themselves with our school environment and meet some of their peers before starting with us in September. This brochure contains key information about the Spring Enrichment Programme, including details of the daily activity options and booking links.

Spring Enrichment Overview Years 7 to 11 Year 7 to 10 students will have the opportunity to participate in different creative workshops and outdoor activities at the Senior School and at our Latham Road Sports Ground respectively. For Year 11 students sitting their GCSE and iGCSE exams this summer, we are introducing a new initiative - "Mastering Exams: GCSE & iGCSE Revision Support Classes". Developed in collaboration with our experienced teaching team, these optional small-group classes aim to provide additional exam preparation support during this critical period. Tailored for students seeking further revision assistance over the holidays or desiring more focused sessions to tackle past exam questions and receive immediate feedback, these classes would benefit students who prefer a structured revision approach in a supervised setting. Kindly note that Year 11 revision classes are currently available to internal students only. Activity Highlights (Years 7 to 10) Cookery Class Experience the joy of cooking with our amazing catering team who will be running a series of one-day cookery workshops! Discover a delightful array of recipes, including artisan breads, fresh pastas, and specialty pastries. These interactive masterclasses are designed to inspire children who have a passion for culinary creativity!

Paddle Sports (Full Day)

Our experienced paddle sports teaching team will be conducting a series of one-day Paddle Safer courses. The primary objective of these courses is to teach students various safety considerations while paddling and equip them with practical solutions in case of difficulty. These courses are enjoyable, and they are ideal for students interested in pursuing their Start award this summer.

Design Tech: Metal Creative Workshops (Full Day) Years 7 to 8 students will get a taste of the world of metalwork and craft creative, personalised pewter cast jewellery, keyrings, and textured planished treasures, while learning how to safely use tools and machinery. No experience necessary. Years 9 to 10 students will dive deeper into the realm of computer aided design, laser cutting and metalcraft. Develop their skills and creativity as they craft intricate pewter cast items. They will learn the ins and outs of tools and machinery with a focus on safety. No experience needed.

Introduction to Microsoft Office

In our beginner's introduction course, Years 7 to 8 students will explore the essential tools and functions of MS Office. They will master the basics of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, including navigation, document creation, and simple formatting. Through handson exercises, they will gain confidence in using these applications for basic tasks like text formatting and data management. Students in Years 9 to 10 will dive deeper into MS Office capabilities. Starting with MS Word for efficient document creation and organisation, students will explore features such as outlines and referencing for clarity and proofreading. They will also learn about MS Excel's versatility for data management and presentation enhancement with conditional formatting. In addition, students will discover creative uses of PowerPoint for presentations in school, university, and beyond. Throughout this course, students will learn how to use AI ethically to get the most out of their learning experience.

Cricket Camp: Years 7-8 (Full Day) Steve Taylor, the current Lead Coach for both the Cambridgeshire County CC U13 girls' team and the Cambridge University Women’s 1st XI, will be returning to Latham Road to host a 2-day coaching camp for cricket enthusiasts in Years 7 to 8. This is a perfect opportunity for those looking to refine their skills in preparation for the upcoming season.

Performance Tennis

LTA Level 3 Performance Tennis Coach Richard Bragg, who is currently working with two of the top GB junior players, will be offering an intensive (but fun) coaching course for those looking to up their game ahead of the summer season. The group size will be small to ensure plenty of individual observations and advice.

Createathons by Olea Education

Led by Olive Halsall, the founder of Olea Education, Createathons are workshops aimed at unleashing students' creativity through immersive experiences in language and creativity. Workshops include: Parlons Franglais! An interactive speaking-based workshop taking students through the funny side of language learning whilst learning a host of French words that don't exist in English. Manifest Multilingualism A writing-based workshop in which students will be guided through principles of manifestation, positive thinking, affirmations, and a growth mindset, with a focus on achieving their language learning goals. Students will acquire a range of new language tips and techniques that can be applied both to their current studies and beyond school.

Additional Information:

Refreshments and onsite lunch will be provided to students participating in full-day enrichment activities. Children taking part in both morning and afternoon activities will have the option to have lunch onsite. Lunch requests can be made via the enrichment booking form.

Mastering Exams: GCSE & iGCSE Revision Support Classes Maths (Ms. Franks)

Music (Ms. Roberts)

The sessions will be customised for students enrolled in each revision class to ensure that each student gets the most out of their session and is further prepared for success in the summer.

The class will focus on the knowledge required for the Listening Paper that the students will sit for their summer exam. This will include a detailed analysis and recap of the following: • The set work - Beethoven V 1st & 2nd movements • The set World Focus - Latin American Music • Identification of musical genres and styles • Compositional techniques and structure • Aural Dictation • Key signatures, intervals, ornaments, chords, cadences • Musical texture and timbre

English Language: 2-Day (Ms. Edmunds) Over the two days, priority will be given to the higher mark questions on the iGCSE First Language exams. Paper 1 will be addressed on Day 1, and Paper 2 on Day 2, with a focus on building confidence to enhance performance. The class is suitable for those seeking targeted feedback and development on their approach to the Language Papers, supporting them to strategise ways to achieve higher marks.

English Literature: 2-Day (Ms. Edmunds) Through the use of standardised revision resources, students will further develop their skills in writing key components of the novel, the play and the poems. Students will focus on one of each in the morning and afternoon sessions before bringing this knowledge together in an essay-skills focused final afternoon. Students should come away feeling more confident about what to include and how to bring this into their essaywriting.

Spanish (Ms. Escudero) This course is designed to bolster confidence and performance in Spanish by revisiting crucial verbs and tenses necessary for exam success. Furthermore, students will reinforce topic-specific vocabulary and learn strategies to enhance their comprehension skills. The course content will be tailored to meet the individual abilities of enrolled students.

Biology (Dr. Curry) Each revision session will focus on key core topics that regularly appear each year, alongside mastering questions on the practical component and mathematics. Students are expected to be familiar with the material, with revision this day focused on maximising exam technique and self-identifying areas requiring further attention. Students will primarily work with past paper questions. The morning will focus on questions from paper 1 material: • Key concepts in biology • Cells and control • Genetics • Natural selection and genetic modification • Health, disease and the development of medicines The afternoon on Paper 2 material: • Key concepts in biology • Plant structures and their functions • Animal coordination, control and homeostasis • Exchange and transport in animals • Ecosystems and material cycles • Practical questions

Geography (Mr. Pegler)

During the session, students will be recapping on the core topics:

This course aims to boost confidence and performance in French by reviewing key verbs and tenses required for the exams. It also focuses on building up a bank of structures to develop a wide range of language that can easily be employed in different contexts. Additionally, students will review topic-specific vocabulary and focus on strategies to improve their comprehension skills. The course will be tailored to suit the ability of the enrolled students.

Classical Civilisation: War & Warfare (Mr. Johnson) In this revision session, students will be reviewing all of the prescribed sources for both the culture and literature sections of the module, including the battles of Thermopylae, Salamis and Actium. The aim is to better understand how these sources are presented and how they can be effectively utilised in exam scenarios. Furthermore, students will refine their exam strategies by analysing a variety of past exam questions, gaining valuable insights into the nuanced expectations of examiners for each question type.

Classical Civilisation: Myth and Religion (Ms. Whitelaw) The morning session will be dedicated to a thorough review of the source booklet for Myth and Religion, ensuring that each student's booklet is filled with detailed notes for every source. Subsequently, in the afternoon session, students will have the opportunity to put this knowledge into practice by tackling GCSEstyle questions, refining their exam technique and boosting their confidence.

Latin Language & Literature (Ms. Whitelaw) Students will spend the morning focusing on Latin Literature. The goal is to comprehensively explore all assigned texts, paying close attention to stylistic nuances. Afterward, we will engage in writing exercises, crafting responses to both 8 and 10 mark questions. This handson practice will deepen their understanding and enhance their ability to analyse and interpret literary works effectively. During the afternoon session, focus will be shifted to Latin Language, tailoring the content based on students' prerequested topics. In the absence of specific requests, the session will concentrate on vocabulary expansion, grammar review, and reinforcing students' ability to identify syntactic structures covered in the GCSE course. This approach ensures that all students receive targeted support in areas crucial for language proficiency.

Art (Mrs. Wilshaw) Textiles (Mrs. BloomfieldProud) All Art and Textiles GCSE students are invited to spend time in the VAC to develop, refine and improve their ideas, techniques and sketchbooks for the exam preparation, so that they are fully ready for the exam in the 2nd week after the Easter break. It is a chance to use equipment and materials in the VAC and receive further guidance from teachers.

Classical Greek Language & Literature (Mr. Johnson) The Greek revision session will encompass both the language and literature components of the GCSE exam. In the language revision segment, students will concentrate on the vocabulary and grammar aspects that frequently lead candidates to lose marks. They will develop strategies for approaching unseen passages and tackling comprehension questions, boosting their confidence in even the most challenging sections of the exam. The literature review will prioritise close examinations of passages expected to feature in the exam, along with enhancing students' grasp of the texts in their entirety to prepare them for 10-mark questions. Through indepth analysis and discussion, students will delve into crucial themes, characters, and literary devices, empowering them to excel in their exam responses.

Mandarin (Ms. Yang) In this revision class, students will concentrate on refining their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in preparation for their exams. Grammar and sentence structures will be further reviewed in conjunction with vocabulary related to key exam topics. Past exam questions and model answers will be discussed alongside marking schemes. The class will be tailored to suit the abilities of the enrolled students.

Additional Information: All Year 11 revision classes will be conducted in a full-day format, with a maximum of 10 students per class. Participating students will be required to check-in and sign out at the Senior School Reception each day. Reception will open for check-in at 08:40, with classes promptly starting at 09:00. All classes end at 15:45. All participating students will be provided with break refreshments and lunch at the Senior School Dining Hall. Please note that timings for Years 7 to 10 activities may vary. Please refer to the booking form for the exact session times of each activity.
