Uncertainty Avoidance: with a low score of 45 in uncertainty avoidance, the Dominican Republic can be considered to have a pragmatic culture. This means that both generalists and experts are needed to come to a decision. Because emotions are not shown much in this society; people are fairly relaxed and not averse to taking risks. Individualism vs. Collectivism: The Dominican Republic is considered a collectivistic society with a low score of 30 on individualism. The society has strong relationships where everyone takes responsibility for fellow members of their group. Loyalty is important in a collectivistic country. Loyalty overrides most societal rules and regulations. Orientation to Time: Every society has to maintain some links with its own past while dealing with the challenges of the present and future. A very low score of 13 means that the Dominican Republic definitely has a normative culture. CULTRALINSIGHTS
JAPANESE CULTURE VALUES MAGAZINE Country background Japan was unified in 1603 after decades of civil war under the Tokugawa shogunate (a military run government). Then, in 1854 the USA made Japan sign the Treaty of Kanagawa which opened up Japan's borders to trade . After signing the treaty Japan started industrializing and modernizing to the point where they were able to defeat both Russia and China. Though they soon would enter into WW2 ending the regime of the Tokugawa shogunate. After WW2 they picked themselves back up, and the economy started a three decade long unprecedented growth. Even though they experienced slowed economic growth in the 90's they are still remains an economic power house especially today with electronics and sutomoblies.
CULTURAL VALUES DIFFERENCES Assertiveness
Japan's government is classified as a parliamentary constitutional monarchy that is based in the capital Tokyo. The country is made up of 47 prefectures and each region has its own dialect, customs, and unique traditional culture. Though in Japan, their legal system is based of the German model, and also reflects Anglo-American influence and Japanese traditions. A example of America's influence is this the judicial review they have in a supreme court and their universal suffrage for anyone above the age of 18. Though just like many countries they have their fair share of influential leaders such as their current reigning Emperor Naruhito, who ascended to the throne in May 2019 after the adication of his father.
Power Distance Power distance is classified as how people belonging to a specific culture view power relationships, superior/subordinate relationships, between people, including the degree that people not in power accept that power is spread unequally. When we apply that definition to Japanese culture we find they have a high power distance. One of the main reasons we see stem from the Buddhist religion that is very prominent throughout Japan. In Buddhism they believe that their current status is a result of their behaviors in their previous life,

Japanese culture is naturally more conserved and held back when comparing them to nations such as the USA or Germany. In a study which interviewed East Asian engineers. The author identified eight major themes he saw. They were high power distance, reciprocity, long-term relationship orientation, non-confrontational style, reticence, guest mentality, language barriers, and unfamiliarity with social custom. All of these have lead to a sever lack of assertiveness in business and engineering. Though, most of Japanese culture revolves around an idea of "politeness" which can often lead people to believe they have a lack of confidence. As a result, many tend to look over east Asians because they believe there there is a lack of confidence and assertiveness that would help drive a business.
CULTRALINSIGHTS so they tend to respect authority how it is. Another ideal that Japan follows is the Confucian principles. Which are basic obedience to those who are in positions of authority such as, fatherrs, elders, and leaders.
Gender Egalitarianism Gender Egalitarianism is refer to as the belief system that one supports the equal rights, roles, and responsibilities for men and women, and opposes the notion that men and women have innately different roles. As for Japan's situation, they are ranked 110 out of 149 in the World Economic Forum’s 2018 Gender Gap Index. A major cause of the huge gender gap is that a large number of women are “non-regular workers. Non-regular workers usually include people like fulltime employee. Mainly people that have fixed-term contracts with specific job obligations. Additionally, "regular" workers are more protected from firings and lay offs. Over 53% of women through the ages of 20-65 are classified as "non-regular" workers, while only 14.1% were classified as such in the same study. Also since many employers want to hire more younger people for "regular" jobs, when women take time to have children they often find it hard to reenter the field they had left to have the child because it had been filled by someone younger. Finally, the last reason I'm going to share is the male dominated management that plagues Japan. Most men in management see the lack of experience in women and knowledge as the reason for limited women managers.
In Japan many people would rather work together for a greater good then work for oneself. They tend to put harmony of group above the expression of individual opinions. Though, based on their location they are not as collective as some of their neighbors, such as China or Korea. The main reason for this difference is that Japan does not have a great extended family system that helps grow a more collective society. You could say that Japanese culture would seem collective from a western perspective and individualist by Asian standards. They tend to be more reserved and private than their neighbors.
Fun Facts
Economy Japan's economy had a unprecedented growth post WW2with the help of American policies. Today, Japan has the third largest economy in the world with a 5.15 trillion dollar GDP. Though Japan is not without its problems. One of which is a shrinking population because of low birth rates and an aging population. Another example, is Japan's lack of natural resources which causes them to have to import materials and energy. As a result, the Japanese government has had to adapt and overcome these challenges. As of right now they are one of the world leaders in manufacturing and devolvement finally, Japan is a highly developed free-market economy.
There are many interesting facts about Japan's culture, geography, and people. For example, Japan is made up of 6,582 different islands the largest being Honshu. Another interesting fact is that Japan the world leader in robotics and is known for their life-like robots. Additionally, They produce some of the most technologically advanced motor vehicles, electronics, and machine tools. Lastly, in Japan it is considered rude to eat and drink while walking.

CULTURAL VALUES OF
QATAR By: Ryan Suarez Qatar´s Backgorund
The people of Qatar are divided into 3 groups; the Bedouin, Hadar, and Abd. It was first settled by Bedouin nomads from the central part of the Arabian Peninsula. In the 19th century Qatar came under the control of the Āl Thānī. They sought protection of the British Empire against tribal groups and the Ottoman Empire. In 1971 they claimed their independence from Britain, but the time under their protection made the monarchy nurture close ties with Western countries. Economy
Qatar has one of the wealthiest economies in the world. Its GDP is 124,927 USD per capita. However this wealth is not equally spread out. Most foreign workers make as little as $350 per month. Oil and petroleum production make up over 70% of the governments revenue. Production of Ammonia, fertilizers, petrochemicals, steel reinforcing bars, and commercial ship repairs also contribute to the economy.
Government
Qatar runs under an Emirate system of government. This is a political territory that is ruled by an Arabic dynasty or an Islamic monarch style ruler. Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is the current Emir. The prime minister of Qatar is Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdul Aziz al-Thani since January of 2020. Qatar is a member of the League of Arab States. Interesting Facts
Qatar is considered the safest place in the world to live because there are no natural disasters that occur here. For instance the chance of an earthquake is 0.01%. Since the country is mostly all dessert, Qatar is one of 4 countries that has no trees or forests. 99% of the residents live in the city of Doha. Another interesting fact is one of the favorite sports for locals is camel racing, where initially kids were the jockeys but in 2004 robots replaced kids for safety reasons.
CULTURAL VALUE DIFFERENCES
Power Distance Qatar has a high power distance. There is a division of roles based on gender and class. Women have access to schools and employment however due to cultural influences many don´t feel comfortable with strangers in public. Men hold most of the jobs in the society. There is also is a difference in social class based on a persons nationality and occupation.
Gender Egalitarianism Qatar is a low value society. Schools are segregated based on gender. After school women tend to take government jobs in areas of education health and social affairs. All high level jobs are held by men. Gender roles are defined because of their religious and cultural beliefs influenced by Islam.
Assertiveness Since Qatar has a lower gender egalitarianism, it corresponds with a high assertiveness. Gender roles and interactions between males and females are clearly defined. In recent years Qatar has allowed women to have more opportunities in schooling and jobs. However the culture is still heavily controlled by the men in power. Also when people are married they often live on a compound with the husbands family.
Orientation to Time Qatar is a future orientation society. They plan on moving from relying heavily on their oil industry to support their economy into tech areas specifically artificial intelligence (AI). They plan to make a new city as a show piece is they host the 2022 World Cup. Qatar is expecting a dramatic increase in their population due to the increasing numbers of foreign workers. They are wanting to be a model for other middle east countries in areas of sustainability, tourism, and sport.

IRAQ
By Wesley Venable
THE BACKGROUND During ww1 Iraq was occupied by the UK and was declared the league of nations in 1920. But it claimed a republic in 1958 when they took over the monarchy to become independent right after that. The climate there is dry and hot and chilly and dry winters. The government over there is not the best considering we fight with Iraq and Iran not here recently though we still have people there trump under his term has taken out more that 3000 troops out of there and came back to there families. Iraq has big problems with uprising terrorist groups such as ISIS and others like the people responsible for 9/11. Yeah Iraq not just Iraq does not have a very good rep with America.
Cultural value differences Power distance: The government is not the best they run off civil and Islamic law mix of both. The Women in Iraq have slim to none choice to decide what they do . The government tells them they have to ecleast have 5 kids and most men were lost to the Iraq and Iran war one reason why population was low also they need to have that many kids to keep the population up according to the government.. People have minimum rights like all people they live to work and they die most likely working some where. In there eyes women have to attend to children make food anything to do with the house they do and they must do it.
Gender Egalitarianism : women are treated unfairly well in there culture it is a regular thing for the women not to have basic rights as a human should. There job in life is to clean cook and feed the family also do things around the house the men work there whole life and the women stay home and take care of the kids and babies etc.
Indulgence vs. Restraint: The people of Iraq are always looking for change so clearly the people are no getting what they need or want in life which can mean a bunch of things like the government doesn't know what is good for the people or does not how to come to a comprimize with the people to dig into there intrests.
Assertiveness: The country its self does not have bold things in life to look forward to because they don't have a straigh forward bold goverment to make and enforce laws like it needs to be.
Type of Government including influential leaders Mustafa al-Kadhimi is the prime minister over iraq or one of the prime ministers. The government is a republic they gained there independence from british control they were no longer part of the british control this was not that long ago ever since iraq has been unstable since 2003 not long after 9/11(my dad went to iraq at that time he just got out of high school i think or maybe a little older i dont know ill have to ask him) there were terrorist groups there destroying towns and peoples homes etc. Iraqi government is not the best there is always riots in iraq or fights burning things down stealing killing etc. And a lot of terrorist organizitons are there. Economy: The economy really anywhere in the middle east is going to be oil because there is a lot of oil there being collected and that is what most jobs is over there is oil jobs. now some make a lot of oil well we will say most people make a lot of money making oil but some of those people are gready and want more than what it is worth hints still some issues today over there
Interesting Facts Did you know Baghdad is its capital Iraq means rooted and fertile Gained there independence in October 3, 1932
CANADA
CHASE ROBERTSON
CANADA, THE SECOND LARGEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD IN LAND AREA IS DIVIDED INTO FIVE NATURAL REGIONS. THE MARITIME PROVINCES ALONG THE ATLANTIC COAST ARE A MIXTURE OF RICH AGRICULTURAL LAND AND FORESTS. POWER DISTANCE
UNCERTAINTY AVOIDANCE
Power Distance is low with an index of 39. This is indicative of a greater equality between social levels, including government, organizations, and even within families. This orientation reinforces a cooperative interaction across power levels and creates a more stable cultural environment. This dimension deals with the fact that all individuals in societies are not equal – it expresses the attitude of the culture towards these inequalities amongst us. Power Distance is defined as the extent to which the less powerful members of institutions and organisations within a country expect and accept that power is distributed unequally. It has to do with the fact that a society’s inequality is endorsed by the followers as much as by the leaders.
Uncertainty Avoidance is the way that people deal with the fact that the future can never be known. should we try to control the future or just let it happen? This brings with it anxiety and different cultures have learnt to deal with it in different ways. The extent to which the members of a culture feel threatened by unknown situations and have created beliefs and institutions that try to avoid these is reflected in the score on Uncertainty Avoidance. This is indicative of the easy acceptance of new ideas, innovative products and a willingness to try something new or different, whether it pertains to technology, business practices, or consumer products. Canadians are also tolerant of ideas or opinions from anyone and allow the freedom of expression. At the same time, Canadian culture is not rulesoriented and Canadians tend to be less emotionally expressive than cultures scoring higher on this dimension.
INDULGENCE VS RESTRAINT
INDIVIDUALISM VS COLLECTIVISM
One challenge is the degree to which small children are socialized. Without socialization we do not become “human”. This is defined as the extent to which people try to control their desires and impulses, based on the way they were raised. weak control is called “Indulgence” and strong control is called “Restraint”. Cultures can be described as Indulgent or Restrained.
The issue addressed by this is the degree of interdependence a society maintains among its members. It has to do with whether people´s self-image is defined in terms of “I” or “We”. In Individual societies people are supposed to look after themselves and their direct family only. In Collectivist people belong to groups that take care of them in exchange for loyalty. Similar to America, this translates into a loosely-knit society in which the expectation is that people look after themselves and their immediate families. Similarly, in the business world, employees are expected to be selfreliant and display initiative. Also, within the exchange-based world of work, hiring and promotion decisions are based merit or evidence of what one has done or can do.
GOVERNMENT Canada is an independent federal state established in 1867 by the British North America Act. Both the House of Commons, and the Senate, must pass all legislative bills before they can receive royal assent and become law. Both bodies may originate legislation, but only the House of Commons may introduce bills for the expenditure of public funds or the imposition of any tax. The House of Commons is more powerful than the Senate, whose chief functions include investigation, reviewing government legislation, and debating key national and regional issues. The Prime Minister, Cabinet, Parliament and House of Commons are the most influential leaders of the Canadian Government.
ECONOMY Canada has one of the world’s most stable economies, ranking 10th globally regarding GDP size. Similar to other developed countries, the service industry is a significant driver in Canada's economy. However, the economy is unique compared to other developed countries because of the importance placed on the primary sector which includes activities such as logging, fishing, and mining. The manufacturing industry is also highly developed, ranking among the global leaders in the manufacture of various products including aircraft, automobiles, and software development. Mining and exploitation of natural resources is also a significant contributor to the GDP. Canada is reputed as an energy powerhouse due to its abundance of natural resources coupled with its relatively small population.

GLOBAL AWARENESS MAGAZINE
Ireland Oldest Culture
Celtic tribes have been in Ireland since 600 B.C. That's a pretty long time in one country, so you can expect some of the things in the country, are pretty old. For example, Sean's Bar, is the oldest bar in the world and has been in Ireland since 900 A.D. And, on top of that, you have one of the oldest monuments in the world, older that even the Pyramid of Giza, and its called Newgrange, and it was built for an Irish king, the chief, and his 3 sons.
Background of Ireland
Celtic tribes have been settled in Ireland since 600 B.C. They were invaded by Norsemen, sometime in the 8th century, The wars waged on for hundreds of years, and were finally put to an end by King Brian Boru, in 1014 A.D. Then sometime in the 12th century, invasions started again, this time from the Normans. Those invasions set off more than seven centuries of Anglo-Irish struggles. Then in the mid-19th century, the country came down with a famine, and that forced a lot of people to leave the country. The country's high birth rate over the last 50 years, put it as having one of the youngest populations in the EU.
Type of government Ireland functions on a democratic government, much like the U.S, they have a president and a Oireachtas, which is kind of like the English Parliament. The president serves a term of 7 years, and can serve a maximum of two terms. The current president is Michael D. Higgins. However, the last two presidents before Michael, were female. Also, to be re elected, the president must be nominated by at least 20 members of the Oireachtas.
Power Difference
Ireland has a democratic government, so a lot of the power is in the people. While yes, the president has the power to change laws and such, it also has to be accepted by the people. The Oireachtas, also has quite a bit of power, being able to decide who to nominate for president.

Ireland is one of the most gender-equal countries in the world, having closed 80% of its gender gap. Unlike the U.S. it has had not one, but TWO female presidents, it comes in 7th in the world, just behind Spain and Germany.

Ireland is a trade-dependent country. In 2008, the economy crashed, and in 2010, the EU and the IMF agreed to a 92 BILLION dollar bailout, to help Ireland rebuild their banking sector. In 2013, Ireland had repaid that amount, and got out from under the loan. Meat counts for 40% of their export. They also export wheat, barley(which are both used in brewing beer), and of course, potatoes.
