YOUTH GROUP CONTEST

SCRAPBOOK - TRADITIONAL OR DIGITAL

All youth groups are encouraged to keep a scrapbook - whether it’s in traditional or digital formatof all youth activities throughout the year.

Contest Rules

• Scrapbooks may be presented in a traditional (paper) format or a digital (video) format.

• Scrapbooks must include SPJST and the lodge name and number.

• Scrapbooks will include content from January 1, 2022, through May 31, 2023.

Judging Criteria

Scrapbooks will be judged on overall presentation, content/storytelling, technical, and collaboration:

Traditional Scrapbook

Overall Presentation (25 points) - Is the cover designed to promote maximum impact and clarity of content? Is the content relevant to youth members of SPJST?

Content/Storytelling (25 points) - Does the scrapbook capture the activities and/or story of the youth group throughout the year? Is all content utilized pertinent to the story? Does the content compel the viewer to turn the page? Is the content organized in a logical and effective format, such as to convey the passage of time?

Technical (25 points) - Does the scrapbook utilize an effective layout and design? Does the scrapbook demonstrate a high level of skill in regard to scrapbooking technique, as well as make the best use of materials for traditional scrapbooking (photographs, captions, graphics, text, embellishments, etc.)? Is the scrapbook neat and tidy in appearance? Does the scrapbook utilize high quality photographs, etc.? Does the scrapbook reflect consistency through editing, attention to grammar, and good writing skills?

Collaboration (25 points) - Does the scrapbook show the work of a team behind the story? Is there evidence that contributions to the story came from many sources and those sources were recognized? Is the story relevant and of interest to others?

Video Scrapbook

Overall Presentation (25 points) - Is the opening designed to promote maximum impact and clarity of content? Is the content relevant to youth members of SPJST?

Content/Storytelling (25 points) - Does the video capture the activities and/or story of the youth group throughout the year? Is all content utilized pertinent to the story? Is the content wellpaced so as to keep the interest of the viewer? Is the content organized in a logical and effective format, such as to convey the passage of time?

Technical (25 points) - Does the video utilize an effective layout and design? Does the video demonstrate a high level of skill in terms of video production, as well as make the best use of video storytelling tools (still photographs, animation, video footage, text, voice narration, music, sound, etc.)? Is the video neat and professional in appearance? Does the video utilize high-quality video and photographs, as well as effective editing techniques for each type of image? Does the video reflect consistency through editing, attention to grammar, and good writing skills?

Collaboration (25 points) - Does the video show the work of a team behind the story? Is there evidence that contributions to the story came from many sources and those sources were recognized? Is the story relevant and of interest to others?
