General Rules - Talent

» All entries in the Talent contests will follow these general rules. Each contest also has its own set of rules and guidelines.

» Entries in the Talent contests must be appropriate for a family entertainment venue. Performance, attire, music, and props must be respectful, tasteful, and appropriate for attendees.

Attire for Talent

Attire for talent can be an outfit of your choice but MUST be age-appropriate and non-revealing. Please ensure that your outfit is comfortable and fully functional for the activities you wish to demonstrate (i.e dancing, gymnastics, singing, playing an instrument, etc)

» The Talent can be in the form of singing, dancing, instrumental, monologue reading, dramatic performance or interpretation, comedy, magic act, or any performance related activity.

» Registration must be completed by Friday, June 30 at 11:59 p.m. All Talent entries must be registered online at spjst.org/showcase. No entries will be accepted through any other means (email, text, etc.).

» An individual or group talent may use live or recorded accompaniment. For vocal performances, limited background vocals may be allowed. Instrumental performances may not be accompanied by the same type of instrument (live or recorded). Any accompaniment will not be judged, and the judges will be publicly informed to that effect.

» An on-site sound and lighting system and sound engineer will be provided.

» Contestants will provide anything needed for their talents.

» Contestants using recorded accompaniment must provide a USB flash drive that contains only the song to be used for competition. USB flash drive must be ready for play when given to the sound crew. USB flash drives should be checked out prior to the beginning of the Showcase to ensure they are working properly. A sound check time will be announced two weeks prior to the Showcase.

» If any technical difficulties should arise, the contestant will have the opportunity to restart the talent.

» All talent presentations, including script, music, props, and attire, must be pre-approved by the State Fraternal Director prior to the Showcase.

» For all talent entries, an adult must be listed as the contact person. This person will be responsible for submitting the script, audio file, etc. and a video of the individual’s or group’s performance recorded during a dress rehearsal. The video must include the complete talent performance (with props and attire, if applicable) as it is to be presented at the Showcase. The script, audio, and video files must be submitted no later than Saturday, July 15 at 11:59 p.m. A link will be sent to the contact person to submit the uploads.

» Audio file (MP4 format) - for any sound accompaniment to be played during the talent Video file (MP4 format) - dress rehearsal of performance including attire and props

Script (PDF format) - for any voice (vocals, skits, recitations, etc.)

» Any talent entry that does not submit its audio, video, and script files prior to Saturday, July 15 at 11:59 p.m. will forfeit its opportunity to perform at the Showcase.

» If a talent entry is not approved, the individual or group has until Thursday, July 20 at 11:59 p.m. to modify the entry and resubmit another for review. If the changes are not resubmitted by Thursday, July 20 at 11:59 p.m. and approved, the talent will forfeit its opportunity to perform at the Showcase.
