IMPORTANT NOTICE TO SPJST IRA OWNERS A change in the Law requires that IRA Contributions must be identified as to the year for which a Deposit is to be applied.

This is most important during the period, January 1 through April 15, 1987 when IRA Contributions can be applied to the previous year (1986), or the current year (1987).

This change to properly report IRA Contributions is mandated

by IRS to verify the transaction through IRS Form 5498 filed by SPJST and the Individual Income Tax Form 1040 Filing Return.

Your lodge president has been provided with information and a form for preregistration. Because we need to know how many will attend, preregistration is requested before April 15th. We would like to have representatives from every lodge.

Please contact your lodge president if you plan to attend so that we can preregister you.

The information packet mailed to each lodge president included a question and suggestion form and lodge leaders are encouraged to submit questions, problems and concern they would like to have covered. In this

way, they will have the opportunity to have some input into the program.

If you are an officer or an interested leader in your lodge, plan to attend.

Orientation For Lodge Leaders Planned For May In response to requests from a number of you, we are pleased to announce plans for a Local Lodge Officers' Orientation. The orientation is set for Saturday, May 2, 1987 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. It will be held on the campus of the historic University of Mary Hardin - Baylor in Belton, Texas. Belton is a small town located about 4 miles south of Temple on Interstate Highway 35.

We, in the SPJST Home Office, are excited about the orientation. It will be similar to an officers' workshop but the format will be different to enable us to better address some of the changes facing our local lodge leaders.

The orientation will be geared to communicate information about the needs, problems, strengths and goals of the SPJST. It will also address plans and ideas for the future progress of the SPJST. An important objective is communication and sharing of information: The program will be designed for lodge officers but all other interested lodge leaders are also invited to attend.

Our monthly meeting was held March 1st at 1 p.m.

The president called for pledges to be led by Shirley Dobecka and Tammi Dobecka with all other members who were present joined in the recitation.

All of us also remained standing for a moment of silence in memory of our departed members Brother Joseph Janda who died February 1, 1987 and Brother Herman Grimm who died February 26th. Our heartfelt sympathy goes to the families.

President Johnnie Krizan called for the secretary's report by Sister Barbara Hykel, also treasurer's and financial secretary's reports were given which were all approved as read.

Correspondence -- A thank you note from the Otto Hanus family, letter from Supreme Lodge about the orientation for local lodge officers (there is more on this in the March 11th issue) were acknowledged.

The talk about our Easter invitation letters will be sent to all members who belong to our Lodge No. 6 to be sure to make plans ahead and set this day, April 5th for our Easter celebration, starting with our monthly meeting at 1 p.m., followed by a short program by the youth members; an Easter egg hunt, lodge picture to be taken by

Danny Urbanovsky of West, and a fried chicken supper will be served to all present. We hope every member and their family will be able to come because we want all of you on this picture for remembrance in 1987 since the next picture will be taken until in 1997.

Youth Leader Willie Mae Schuetz announced the winners in the Valentine contest which was held Friday, February 13th. First prize -Tammi Dobecka, second -- Shirley Dobecka, third -- Keith Hykel, fourth -- Kevin Dobecka. The party was enjoyed by all young and old.

At our last meeting the youth held a kite - flying contest. The winners were: l'rettiest -- Celia Dobecka, oddest -Keith Hykel, highest flying (a tie) -Kevin Dobecka and Keith Hykel, lowest flying -- Sharon Hrabal and Tammi Dobecka. Every young and old person enjoyed this game.

Get well cards were sent to Karen Kroll, Margaret Schroeder and Helen Mynar by Willie Mae Schuetz.

Sympathy cards were sent to the Janda, Grimm, Matus and Hanus families.

Board Chairman George Straten reported of the board meeting which was held February 27th. A decision was made about our lodge picnic which will be held this year on Sunday, July 19th and those appointed for the fund - raising project and prizes were Bobby and Peggy Dobecka.

The president reported we had one transfer to our lodge. We are glad to have him and hope the family will come to our activities.

Drawing prize of the day went to Sister Annie Schroeder.

Progressive winners were Anton Kaluza, $10; Rita Jones, $10; Gary Odle Monthei, $2; none of these members were present.Our youth club donated two door prizes; winners were Barbara Hykel and Shirley Dobecka.

Wednesday, March 18, 1987—VESTNIK/5 The Board of Trustees' meeting will be Friday, April 3rd at 7:45 p.m.

At this time, President Johnnie Krizan thanked everyone for coming and hoped they enjoyed the day. Our meeting adjourned at 2:10 p.m.

I would also like to mention a little bit about the wedding that was held Saturday, March 7th at our lodge; the happy couple was Jimmy Uptmore and Donna Ashley who were married at our lodge, which was a beautiful ceremony with a full house in attendance and everyone had a wonderful, jolly old - fashioned/good time, also a dance with the usual grand march at night with music by the Fiddle Swingsters. I've been to a lot of weddings but this one was the happiest group of people l have ever seen all associating together. The hall was decorated with lots and lots of pink and white ribbons, plus many white bells with a decorated arch set up in the middle of the hall like in church.

Tuesday night, March 10th, we held an insurance sales seminar at our lodge which was well - attended and with the presence of Brother Jim Wiest who had information that was valuable to those sales representatives who were in attendance.

Plans Picnic Dear Brothers and Sisters: President Jerry Pechal called the regular lodge meeting to order on Sunday, March 1st at 2 p.m.

Flag Bearers Heidi Schroeder and Tracy Klusacek brought in the flags and led us in the pledge to our flag. We held a moment of silence for deceased Brothers Gus C. Leschber, Jr., Louis J. Marek and Otto Hanus. Brothers Leschber and Marek were Lodge No. 47 members and came to meetings; Brother Marek was very regular and Brother Hanus, the SL Museum curator, was a member of our Choral Club and made the signs for past picnics and the frames for the presidents, conventions and Choral Club pictures. We shall miss these brothers. Honor to their memory forever and may they rest in eternal peace, and our deepest sympathy to the surviving families.

Visitors recognized were Ann Balusek, Gertrude Kattlig-, Willie Hegar, Victor Cervenka and Freddie Schroeder. We are inviting you to come, again. There were 77 members present, in addition to the five visitors.

Sister Dolores Skrabanek read the roll call of officers, sales representatives and trustees. Minutes of our previous meeting were approved as read. The correspondence included a thank you note from Brother Gus Leschber family for the floral wreath sent to funeral services and the forms to be filled out for the officers' orientation to be held at UMHB at Belton on Saturday, May 2nd sent by SL Secretary/Treasurer Leonard D. Mikeska.

Accepted as new members were Sharla M. Mikeska, Raymond Charles Mikeska III and Scarlett M. Mikeska.

We welcome you to our lodge and may you all become ,active in lodge activities.

On the sick list, we had these members who had been hospitalized: Brothers Alfred Klusacek, Joe Marinik and Lonnie Schroeder and Sisters Frances Heil; Vallie Zavodny, Albina Dueser, Dorothy Morris and Angelina

Dana. Barbara Brenek was in for a blessed event, the birth of ' a son, Andrew Eugene. Get well wishes are being expressed to all who still are ailing; you are being missed at home.

President Pechal reported on the refrigerated box that is being worked on and the next meeting will be on April 5th and an Easter egg hunt is planned, also a covered dish supper will be served after the meeting.

Other officers and chairpersons gave their reports. Dan Wiley announced the chairpersons for various booths for our lodge's old - fashioned picnic to be held on Sunday, June 7th.

District 11 Director Willie E. Kohutek reported that District II sales representatives seminar will be held on March 31st at Taylor and April 1st at Temple. He said that new insurance will be forthcoming and all representatives should make an effort to be present at one of these places.

Brother Frank Klinkovsky reported that the Lone Star Camp was a success. Our Youth Leader Patsy Koslovsky went to this leadership conference and said she enjoyed meeting the people from other lodges.

The buses for the District II meeting are being taken care of by Brother Klinkovsky at (817) 773 - 4801. If you are going by bus, you need to call him if you have not done so by now.

Sister Patsy. Koslovsky gave her youth leader's report; twenty - five members and seven visitors were present. She reported the winners of the drawing: 1st prize -- Ann Koon (5" - TV AM/FM Radio), 2nd -- Janice Lancaster (2 - person tent), 3rd -David Pechal (George Strait cassette tape). She also reporter on the supper, auction and games. Sister Koslovsky thanked those who donated to the auction and cakes; a SPECIAL thanks to the buyers! She also thanked everyone for attending.

Lodge No. 88, Houston Dear Brothers and Sisters: Our recent dances have been attended by large crowds, including the dance by Texas Brew on February 20th, Central Texas Sounds on February 21st, Texas Brew on February 27th, John Sullivan Orchestra on February 28th, Texas Brew on March 6th and the Czech Harvesters on March 7th.

Sister Lucy Mae Fredo passed away on February 28th at the age of 83 years. Rosary was recited on March 2nd at the Assumption Catholic Church with entombment at Catacombs in the Garden of Gethsemani. Our deepest sympathy is extended to the family of Sister Fredo.

Brother H .J. Jarisch is home following a hospital stay. It has been reported that Sister Mary Kosut is in Room 555 of the Houston Northwest Medical Center, Sister Bernice Wahlberg is in Room 246 of Memorial Hospital Northwest and Brother John Hilsher is in Room 633 - South of Park Plaza Hospital. A speedy recovery is wished to all of our sick members.

Please be advised that effective April 1st the hours of our lodge office will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Secretary Christine Zich announced that there were several members eligible to receive the 50 - year pins but they declined to attend and have them presented to them so the pins were mailed to them. He won the State Championship and will keep one trophy and the other will be displayed at the Lodge 92 Hall. Albert expressed his pleasure and gratitude and also his wish that many younger persons would learn the game and preserve a tradition that could easily disappear. A discussion followed concerning our Family Fun Night. Many families with children found the week - night inconvenient because of children in school, etc.; therefore, we will try having the socials on the meeting Sundays following the business and supper. 142, Houston Meeting

Our lodge meeting was called to order at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 1st

by Vice President Gus Florian due to the absence of our President Dennis Hermis.

Brother Florian appointed Nelson Jochen to take the vice president's chair for this meeting.

We had 45 members and guests who stood to recite the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag. All remained standing for a moment of silence in memory of our departed members Fred Paul, Louise Hall and Tillie Kubin. secretary Alice Jochen held roll call of officers; absent were President Dennis Hermis, Guide Frank 1 umis and Youth Leader Elizabeth Hermis; also Board Members Henry Hermis, Bill Merryman and Rosie Schilhab.

The secretary then read the minutes from our previous meeting which stood approved as read. Under correspondence we had a transferee Viola Doskocil from Lodge No. 47 to our Lodge No. 142.

Secretary/Treasurer Financial report was read by Sidon Tumis.

We had two new members Jenna Perez and Alan Barnes signed up by Sales Representatives Raymond Budewig and Sidon Tumis.

Three members passed away.

Reported in the hospital were Charles Cerny, Carolyn Kubezcka and Charlie Chupik.

We welcomed visitors Mr. and Mrs. Benton Doskocil, Louis Hanus, Jo Ann Burl, Josephine Buri, Joe Gambil and Genevieve Bilski.

Our president will show our members the tape on "Texas Czechs and Checkerboards" at our next meeting scheduled for Friday, April 10th.

Our $20 capsule attendance prize went unclaimed due to the absence of Eugene Cilny at this meeting. Next month's prize will be $30. No youngest member under 16 was present, therefore, the $5 attendance prize went to the oldest member present -- Agnes Becker.

Door prizes went to Sidon Tumis, Martin Kieschnick, Erna Febrle and Frances Barrett.

The meeting adjourned at 2:45 p.m.

A delicious lunch of cold cuts and a variety of snacks was served to the membership, which was prepared and served by our gracious Kitchen Manager Rosie Tumis and her help.

Sister Carolyn and Assistant Youth Leader Carol Sanders took the Youth Club to Mama's Pizza after the meeting.

I have some congratulations we would like to extend -- new arrivals, Alden and Sister Steffanie Stewart on the arrival of their first, a son David Allen; the grandparents are Bill and Sister Sondra Cole and great grandmother, Sister Geneva Hennessey; Jonathan Lranfill, the first for Corina and Robert Cranfill and Laura Elizabeth Tesar, the second for Johnnie and Benny 1 esar. We know there is a lot of happiness in the air.

Congratulations to Brother Daniel Paul Mocio who was wed to Shelly Marie Taylor on March 7th at St. Andrew's Catholic Church with Rev. Steven Mocio officiating. Francine Suermann of Decateur is the mother of the bride. Brother Steve J. and Sister Doris Mocio are the parents of the groom. Daniel's grandmother, Eve Svoboda, of Nebraska attended the wedding. They are honeymooning in Hawaii. May they have a long and happy life together.

Get well wishes to Brother Frank Picha. He had surgery this morning at All Saints Hospital. I talked to him tonight and all went well. .1 here still isn't any change in his wife, Mary, who has been in a coma since last June.

Sister Lisa Hopkins found this to be a small world. She was in New Orleans to celebrate her birthday at tne Mardi Gras and, with the millions of people there, who were the,first ones she ran into? Her cousins, Sister Carolyn Cleveland, Brother Glen and Sister Marlyn Douglass; neither knew the others were there.

Sister Kelly Eaton returned home safely after a 10 - day stay in Chicago attending a clinic. She was able to get away and do some skiing in Madison, Wisconsin. She said the countryside was just beautiful.

Sister Lori Steinman was honored last week at a beautiful bridal shower.

She and John Kelly Pace will wed Saturday, March 14th at 2 p.m. at the Westridge Baptist Church. Lori is the daughter of the late Brother Donald Steinman and Sister Rose Steinman.

May they have .a long and happy marriage.

Sister Doris (Merlick) Mobley with her creation entitled "Rings and Things" took "Best in Show" as well as the Betty Hall Memorial trophy for her arrangement at the annual Eagle, Mountain Garden Club Show. She produced the arrangement using such everyday items as an old lampstand, an oat meal box and paper towel holder. talented. is very Doris Congratulations!

Brother Jerry and Sister Henrietta Milan enjoyed a nice visit in their home with Mila Waldouf of Toronto, Canada. I think Mila fell in love with Fort Worth.

187 New Construction Activities

Lodge

The beautiful weather that has blessed us lately has resulted in a flurry of activities at Lodge 187. The members of Lodge 187 have been busy with several new projects designed to help meet the needs of the community and the lodge membership.

The dream of having a sports court, took several steps closer to becoming a reality recently when the lodge membership approved the funds necessary to begin construction. Plans for the sports' court currently include two volleyball courts with future provisions for tennis and basketball.

Initial phases of court construction started in February and the volleyball courts should be ready by this summer.

Red Oman has been busy with his maintainer spreading numerous loads of dirt and gravel. The dirt is being used to fill in low areas in the back of the lodge and the gravel is being used to expand and repair the parking lot.

Play Scheduled For Schulenburg

Watching the "Super Bowl" after finishing off a few steaks. along the south portion of the property. A similar fence is scheduled for the north portion of the property.

The fence is designed to separate the parking lot from the new sports' court and recreational area. The metal pipe being used to construct the fence was donated by a relative of Gene Landry.

A word of appreciation goes to each of these members for their hard work.

The members of Lodge 187 also approved to spend the funds necessary to construct a metal cover over the barbecue pit area. The large covered area will provide an opportunity for increased activities by members of the

lodge and certain community activities. A ribbon - cutting ceremony for the new covered barbecue pit area is being planned for April 26th.

Another great "Tip Party" was held on January 25th. Over 200 individuals enjoyed playing games, watching the Super Bowl, and enjoying a great barbecue steak meal.

The Czech players from Hlahol Drama Club of Lodge Pokrok No. 88, Houston are at it, again. This time they plan to present a Czech - speaking play in Schulenburg. The play is scheduled for Sunday, April 12, 1987, at 2 p.m. in the Cozy Theater. The presentation will be sponsored by Backstage, Inc. Backstage, Inc., located in Schulenburg, is a non - profit organization dedicated to bringing the arts and drama to Schulenburg and the surrounding area. Since its founding in 1969, Backstage, Inc. has been instrumental in presenting and sponsoring many live theatrical performances in the Schulenburg area.

The Czech play will be "Kos to zalidi" ("Kos Will Fix It"). Sound familiar? It should be, it is the same play that was presented at Lodge No. 88 in Houston on September 14, 1986 by the Czech players of Hlahol Drama Club. "Kos to zaHdi" is a lively three act comedy that will keep the audience laughing throughout the entire performance.

Many people, who are interested in and understand the Czech language, did not get to see this play in Houston.

This will be an excellent opportunity for all to come to Schulenburg and have a good time in the Czech theatrical.

It is anticipated that this will be a memorable event. You can help by telling your Czech - speaking friends, especially those who do not get the Vestnik, about this presentation.

Watch for more information in the coming issues of the Vestnik as well as in the newspapers in Schulenburg and surrounding towns.

Wharton County Czech Heritage Society The Wharton County Czech Heritage Society met March 2, at Wharton County Electric Co - op in El Campo.

Special guest was Dr. Svatava Jacobson, of Texas University, Austin, who presented an impressive program on the history of Czech costumes and the influence on present day Texas Czech costumes.

Gulf Coast Singers were recognized and their schedule presented.

Bylaws and the Constitution to be voted on at the next meeting were read

by Lisa Stancliff.

Lillia Peter and Viola Naiser were each recognized for their recordings of the St. John Catholic in Taiton and nie Mae Gloeckner for her recording of Lakeview Cemetery.

Rev. Benton Thurmond reported on various festivals where Czech performers were asked to participate.

Fliers were made available for those wishing to purchase East Bernard Czech Singers' cassettes.

Czech language classes available in Victoria and Bellville were announced, Joe Ann Fabrygel furnished the first newsletter for the Society. Anyone wanting to list family queries in the newsletter can contact her.

The State Heritage meeting will be held in Fayetteville on March 7th.

The next Wharton County Czech Heritage meeting will be held on June 2 at 7 p.m. at Security Bank & Trust in Wharton. Anyone interested in attending is welcome.

American-Czech CS Helps Sponsor Czech Genealogy 17th Annual Kolache Workshop At Rowena Festival The second Czech Genealogy Workshop will be held in the Concho Valley area on 15 May 1987 at the SPJST Lodge Hall in Rowena. This is on a Saturday and the workshop will be from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Registration and coffee will commence at 9:30 a.m.

Persons interested in the genealogy of their families will have the opportunity to hear the "experts" make talks on such subjects as Czechs on the passenger lists, places of birth of their Czech ancestors, records available in the courthouses, the Federal Census records, and research in Czechoslovakia.

A registration fee of two dollars ($2.00) will be charged at the door to cover expenses, and a noon lunch will be served at a nominal cost.

The workshop will be conducted by the Czech Heritage Society of Texas and sponsored by SPJST Lodge No. 49 at Rowena.

East Bernard, Texas March 9, 1987 To The Vestnik Readers: 1 would like to share the following letter of thanks with you from the "Podlu2an" Czechoslovak Folk Orchestra and Dance Ensemble, who were invited to Texas to participate in a symposium devoted to "Czech Music in Texas" held in Bryan, Texas, November 14 - 16, 1986.

As a salute to Texans of Czech/Moravian/Slovak ancestry, the Czechoslovak government sent "PodWan" to represent Moravian music and dance to the Texas Sesquicentennial Celebration.

The group was in Texas for 3 weeks touring and playing for audiences and they enjoyed the hospitality of many Texas residents of their stay. They were our Texas guests and enjoyed 3 weeks of freedom from behind the iron curtain.

It was rewarding to me how our communities, schools, business places, and private homes opened their hearts and helped host the singing and dance group from Bieclav (Moravia) Czechoslovakia. I think it is very important we have these "people to people" exchanges of cultural visits for a better understanding between people and nations.

It is hard for everyone here in the United States and the Free World to understand the problem of a society without freedom. Unfortunately, people here do not fully appreciate their freedom, because they never have experienced the lack of freedom.

Most of all, it was such a pleasant surprise that so many families, especially our hosts, with whom we stayed and who treated us so graciously, have kept up speaking the Czech language, observing the traditions and love of the native country of their parents and grandparents, which we appreciated sc much and also encountered in your homes. It's a shame, that the ocean is so wide and the journey is so far. For us then, these few lines may help us bridge the distance because our hearts are so closely united. At Christmas when we stood under the tree, we remembered all our friends over the world. We wished that our songs of love, happiness, peace and friendship would reach across the ocean to each one of you. So when the bells rang out the hour of that great birthday, we hoped that people could extend their hands and with one heart remember each other.

My dear friends, once more I want to thank you for the wonderful time we spent together. I beg that you extend greetings from my heart to all of our friends and their families and all who sang with us, "Zivio, Zivo."

(This is a Czech toast). On our return home, we performed two appearances where we told them about our

wonderful stay with you. That large goblet from Dallas we filled with champagne and our "Zivio, must have been heard even by you!

We hope that the coming New Year will be for all of us a happy and joyful one. Believe me, we will joyfully welcome you when you come to Czechoslovakia.

District II Meeting This Sunday The District II spring meeting will be held this Sunday, March 22nd at Lodge No. 74, Lovelady beginning at 2 p.m. The meeting is an annual business meeting of our district and general reports of the past year and all upcoming activities for 1987 will be reported.

A short youth program is also scheduled. The District 11 officers have built up much enthusiasm about attending this meeting since it will be held at our most distant lodge in East lexas.

Four buses are scheduled to take members to this meeting at a nominal charge; just a few seats are available and you may still get a seat. Dear Readers, Our March monthly meeting was called to order on March 4, 1987 at 6:30 p.m. by John See III. Roll was called and John read the correspondence.

Old business was about the Valentine party at school, skating party at Brenham, and Houston Livestock Show this past Sunday in Houston.

New business consisted of the rules for YAD. They have changed and also on March 21, 1987 the Lions Club will have its chili and bingo supper at the Snook SPJST Hall. More will be announced later.

Activities for this month will be the basketball games for the high school boys going to Victoria to Regionals, the Vestnik Puzzles and Contests, and coming up, is YAD. 1 hope everyone is looking forward to it because I am.

Members, again, I urge you to pay your dues!

Our speaker was Nancy Jo Pippin from the Juvenile Probation Office. It was very educational and interesting.

Meeting Our youth club meeting was held on March 8th; there were eleven members and four adults present.

We discussed having our Easter egg hunt on April 12 after the adult meeting and all the children of the lodge are invited. Every family is asked to bring a dozen candy eggs or boiled egg, plus each child needs to decorate an egg for a prize egg and each family needs to fix an Easter Bonnet for Dad to model; also bring a canned food item, because we're going to decide on a family to give canned goods.

We will also be having a cake walk on March 28th and April 4th. Our next meeting will be on April 12th at 2 p.m.

Meeting Dear Vestnik Readers, The Mardi 1st meeting of Lodge No. 47 Youth Club was called to order

by President Michael Morris. There were 25 members and 6 visitors present. The visitors were Heath Novosad, Joshua Welch, Russell Wier, Lori and Jenny Kohutek and Shannon Pechal.

Welcome to our four new members Amy Kohutek, Jana Schneider, Bill Schneider and Jon Gersback. We are glad to have you.

Our chili supper and auction were super! Thank you to everyone who came and supported us; the chili was delicious!

The fund - raising project prizes were won by Ann Koon 1st place, Janice Lancaster -- 2nd, David Pechal -- 3rd.

Several of our youth members are looking forward to the bus ride to Lovelady Lodge No. 74. We are excited about visiting another SPJST lodge!

Last week, we had our first Beseda practice. There were 15 of us who are interested. It is a lot of fun. I hope everyone can make the practices.

Our next meeting will be held on Sunday, April 5th at 2 p.m. We will have an Easter egg hunt at that time.

KOVARIK, of Port Lavaca, Texas, who passed away Tuesday, January 27, 1987 in a Victoria hospital after a long illness, at the age of 72. He was retired from the Alcoa Aluminum Company.

Funeral services were held Friday, January 30 at 2 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Chapel in Port Lavaca with Rev. Lewis Petmecky and Rev. Johnny Kisiah officiating. Burial was in Colonial Gardens Cemetery in Port Lavaca.

WALTER VIRGIL OVERSTREET, who passed away February 19, 1987 at the age of 63 from smoke inhalation when their home burned in Mansfield, Texas and was a total loss.

Brother Overstreet was a native of Haslet, Texas and a disabled veteran of World War 11 having served in the Army Air Corps. He received the Purple Heart and the Battle Stars.

On November 9, 1949 he married Doris Mayer; they had 37 happy years together. He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Mansfield.

He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 27 years and was a rodeo judge at the Kow Bell arena in Mansfield for 20 years.

Survivors include his widow, Doris Mayer Overstreet; sons, Cliff Overstreet of Fort Worth and Craig Overstreet of Dallas; daughter, Caron Bunch and son - in - law, Gerald Bunch; grandchildren, Natalie and Colby Bunch; brother, Jack Overstreet and sister - in - law, Betty Overstreet of South Lake; sisters - in - law, Dorothy Overstreet of Haslet, Frances Overstreet of Richland Hills and Jacquie Overstreet of Granbury.

Funeral services were held Saturday, ebruary 21st at 1:30 p.m. at Shannon's North Funeral Chapel in Fort Worth. Interment was in Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park.

In Memory Of Our Father And Grandfather "Frank Joe Vytopil" Frank Joe Vytopil, 89, of Bryan, texas died in Humana Hospital on February 21, 1987.

Services were held at Faith United Church of Christ where Dad Vytopil was a longtime member.

He was also a member of SPJST since he was 23 years of age; most of that time his membership was with Lodge No. 39, Bryan. He was a devoted and active member of the SPJS I until he was unable to drive a car. He served in all officers' positions of our lodge and was president during the time we bought the land and built our present lodge hall. The cedar tree in front of the lodge home was planted by our Mom and Dad when the hall held its grand opening; it still stands there as a memorial to them. He also was a sales representative (organizer) for many years.

Brother Vytopil was preceded in death by his wife and our mother Albina Vytopil on December 31, 1985.

He was also preceded in death by two sons, Jerry Vytopil on June 8, 1983 and Frank Joe Vytopil, Jr. on November 20, 1945.

Survivors include one son, Joe Vytopil of Camp Creek; four daughters, Albina Matejka, Gladys Manthei, Rosie Rice and Lillie Matejka, all of Bryan; a daughter - in -

law, Dorothy Vytopil of Bryan; 19 grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren.

Dad will be missed very much by all of us for he was always a most - loving, tender - hearted father. He was also a good kind husband and he took care of mother during the last few years of her life, to the very end.

Expression Of Sympathy We, the Resolution Committee of Lodge No. 154, Fort Worth and our entire membership, wish to express our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family of our departed lodge brother JOE SKRASEK, who died Sunday, February 22, 1987 in an Ennis hospital of a heart attack. He was 67.

Brother Joe was born in Fort Worth and graduated from Diamond Hill High School in 1939. He was in the Army during World War II and saw action in Africa and Europe.

Brother Joe started selling, used cars in 1939. He owned Joe Skrasek's Used Cars in North Fort Worth until he retired in 1983.

He married Sister Helen Sonka of Ennis in 1946.

He was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church in Ennis and Lodge No. 154 since 1935.

In 1985 he and Sister Helen Skrasek moved to Ennis.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Sonka Skrasek of Ennis; two sons, Ronald Joe Skrasek of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Gary Steven Skrasek of Fort Worth; a brother, W.L. Skrasek of Grand Prairie, Texas; four sisters, Frances Blake, Mary Ryno, Toni Matula and Lillian Skrasek, all of Fort Worth and five grandchildren.

Rosary was recited Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Keever Funeral Home in Ennis. Funeral mass was at 10 a.m.

Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church in Ennis.

Pallbearers were Jodie Mikula, Joe Valek , Bud Sellers, Ronald Joe Skrasek, Jr., Stanley Studenka, Ivan Bohuslay . Honorary pallbearers were his nephews.

Interment was in Myrtle Cemetery in Ennis.

Everyone was invited to join Sister Helen and her family at the KC Hall.

Features King Sisters Win Spots On All 9AAAA Team Two Pflugerville Pantherettes made the District 9AAAA girls all - district basketball team, and two more won honorable mention in voting by the district's basketball coaches.

PHS forwards Melissa King and Jennifer King were among a total of 10 players chosen all - district, in addition to most valuable player Sara Carothers of Waco Midway. Pflugerville guards Sheralyn Mon and Melissa Coneff joined six other _players on the honorable mention list. The selections were made public Thursday, February 26th.

Melissa King, a 5 - 7 senior, led in both scoring and rebounding for the district runner - up Pantherettes, who finished the year with 25 wins and six losses. She averaged 10 points and eight rebounds per game.

Jennifer King, a 5 - 7 sophomore, was the only non - starter named to the all - district squad. "She was as important as a starter, even though she came off the bench," said Coach David Land. "And evidently she impressed a lot of people."

Another unique aspect of Jennifer's selection by the district coaches is that she and Melissa comprise the only tandem of sisters on the all - district team.

The Pantherettes' Coneff, a 5 - 3 senior, was another top scorer for the team. "When we really needed to score, she was usually the one we went to," Coach Land recalled. "She probably made more last - minute points than anyone I've ever coached."

Mott, a 5 - 6 senior, "was probably our defensive standout," Land said.

"She forced things to happen. And on offense, she really created a lot of excitement. She was our temposetter, more or less." Mott also contributed double - figure scoring in a number of games.
