From the Czech Heritage Museum and Genealogy Center Miloš Forman: What Doesn’t Kill You to be shown May 11 in Belton
Czech Heritage Museum and Genealogy Center and The Beltonian Theatre will present two showings of the 2009 film Miloš Forman: What Doesn’t Kill You on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. The films will be shown at the historic Beltonian Theatre, 219 East Central, Belton, Texas - just off the courthouse square in Belton.
Miloš Forman, What Doesn’t Kill You is an award-winning documentary about director Miloš Forman, who directed One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Amadeus, Hair, The People vs. Larry Flynt, Man on the Moon, and more. This film follows Forman as he returns to his home in the Czech Republic and explains how his experiences there informed his films. For example, in One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, he saw the character of Nurse Ratched as communism. Rather than casting an older, harsher woman as was called for, he cast a woman who appeared tender and nurturing, which he felt characterized communism’s appeal as a caretaker masking the character’s “ratcheting” control of the patients, accruing in almost undetectable increments. (English and Czech audio, English subtitles.)
For more information about this film, see CzechHeritageMuseum.org/events or visit the Czech Heritage Museum Facebook page.

Lodge 24, Cyclone: Ted Lange, Mollie “B” and Squeezebox to return
Brush off your dancing shoes - which have most probably been in the closet for over a year now - and get ready to dance to Ted Lange and Mollie “B” and Squeezebox who are coming to Flag Hall - SPJST Lodge 24, Cyclone in a few weeks. Tables are really filling up with people who want to get out and get back to dancing.
We were very happy that Mollie called us and asked us to host her dance which will be held on Friday, May 21, 2021, with dancing from 7 to 11 p.m. The doors will open at 6 p.m., and the kitchen will be serving those delicious sausage plates, including green beans and parsley new potatoes. The bar will also have a variety of your favorite beverages cold and ready to quench your thirst.
The smell of sausage cooking in the kitchen will fill the hall with that good flavor. So come hungry, and plan to have a wonderful meal before you start dancing.
Things are starting to look a little like “the good ol’ times.” Ted and Mollie always put on a wonderful show playing some of your favorite tunes.
Call Linda Wilde at 254-985-2258 for more information or to purchase your tickets in advance for only $15 per person. Children under 10 years of age are free of charge. Tickets will be $20 at the door that night if seats are available.
It has been so sad to see the dark dance hall closed for more than a year. It will be so good to see it full of people having fun and dancing again. Linda M. Wilde, Treasurer —SPJST—

The wainscot people have gone big as they have covered some complete walls. It’s really pretty.
Birthdays are Derek Campbell on April 1; Abigail Bruggman on April 3; and Cole Campbell on April 7. Justin Everett is on the sick list. For the Lodge, Bobby Hoelscher, Reporter —SPJST—

Seaton School is 119 years old and in need of exterior painting. The cost of the repairs is estimated at $17,000. The Seaton School Preservation Committee held a garage sale fundraiser recently with all proceeds going towards restoration efforts. Monetary donations continue to be accepted and should be made payable to Seaton Community Improvement Association and mailed to SCIA, Treasurer, 13291 Sugar Cane Lane, Temple Texas 76501.
