f you enjoy playing straight dominoes, Saturday, March 5 will be your opportunity for a day to play. The Home Office in Temple will host the 2022 SPJST State Straight Domino Tournament beginning with registration from 8 to 9 a.m. State Fraternal Director Frank Horak and Fraternal Services Specialist Tammy Martinez are ready to welcome players for a full domino-playing day! Snacks and lunch will be served, too. To register, visit spjst.org/tournaments or give Tammy a call at 254-773-1575, ext. 164. Sincere Sympathy We extend special thoughts to Claims Specialist Dorothy Tomasek whose sister Elsie (Martinek) Cabla, age 101, passed away on February 6 Elsie was a member of Lodge 47, Seaton. Funeral service was February 10 in Temple. Elsie’s obituary appeared in the February 14 Vestnik. Our hearts are heavy as we think of District One Director/Vice Chair of the Board of Directors Donnie Victorick whose son Ashley Victorick, age 45, passed away on February 13. Ashley was a member of Lodge 88, Houston. Funeral service was February 19 in Bryan. Ashley’s obituary and memorial tribute begin on page 22 of this week’s Vestnik. Mortgage Loan Specialist Carol Wolf is also in our thoughts and prayers. Carol’s brother Jimmy Wolf, age 50, passed away on February 20. Jimmy was a member of Lodge 80,
Holland. Funeral service was February 26 in Temple. Jimmy’s obituary will appear in the March 14 Vestnik. Vestnik Solicitation from “That’s Great News” Readers, please note that some of our members have received calls from solicitors of “That’s Great News” offering customized wall plaques of their articles/photos that have appeared in the Vestnik. SPJST is in no way affiliated with this business. “That’s Great News” appears to be a legitimate business that designs and manufactures customized wall plaques for people and companies that have been featured in newspaper and magazine articles. However, there are countless scam reports that surface with a simple web search. Hopefully, no other calls will be received, but if you do receive a call, please be vigilant.

Westphalia KCs to host Friday fish fry
Dear Mr. Michael Morris, Thank you for submitting the article about your dad’s involvement in the escape from communist Czechoslovakia. I heard of this incident when I was in grade school, but with no details. In my version, your dad was the pilot! I purchased Mr. William’s book and look forward to reading it. It is so good to know that I can now learn the full and true story. I am also interested in the DVD episode of “This is Your Life.” I remember the show well and, perhaps, learned of your dad’s past through that episode. Thank you again for sharing. Sincerely, Barbara Vlk Lingberg Lodge 84, Dallas —SPJST—

It’s Your Life
Healthy Mind . . . Healthy Body It seems every show on television has some type of commercial for weight loss, healthy supplements, and exercise equipment. All that can help, but when it is all said and done, it all starts with a healthy mind. People come in all shapes and sizes. We come in all strengths and weaknesses. Our bodies react differently to different conditions. Some large people are very healthy. Some people that look physically fit are very unhealthy. The weather gets cold, and some people get instantly sick. The weather gets hot, and some people are instantly drained and tired. Why do some do well, and some do not? It really starts with a healthy mind. Years ago, I made up my mind that I would not stress over anything that I cannot control. I weighed 220 pounds with a 5’7” frame. All indications pointed to all types of health issues. Yet I never got sick. Without the stress in my life, I didn’t sit around sulking over certain situations. I didn’t watch television instead of ignoring things I should be doing. I didn’t substitute food for work. I realized that when I was stressed, my body reacted to every little thing. A cough became a cold. A cold took away my strength. Without strength, my body didn’t burn calories. Without burning calories, I grew bigger than I needed to be. With a bigger body, everything magnified. None of this was because I was big. It was because I let stress control my mind and that controlled my fate. Once I adopted the rule that I would not let any-
thing I can’t control bother me, I started taking back my health. My mind was not constantly cluttered. Without a cluttered mind, I started doing more things, becoming more active. As I became more active, my body started reacting. I felt healthier. I stopped getting ill. I realized I can do simple things to keep my mind uncluttered and forget about the world around me for a short period of time. I also realized everybody has that same potential. It’s time to take the steps to create a healthy mind. It’s simple. Find one activity that you can do for 15 minutes and dedicate that to ignoring the world around you. It may be walking the dog or walking yourself. Read a book, do a puzzle . . . treat yourself to a meal alone. Do some light exercise. Lock yourself in your room, and take a simple nap. Sit on your porch, and enjoy the view. Pick some flowers. Play a game with your kids or grandkids. Whatever you choose, make sure you are focused on that task and ignore the rest of the world for those few minutes. In the end, it’s not about dieting, eating healthy food, or intense exercising every day. It’s about creating a healthy mind that will allow your body to fight whatever wants to invade you. Once you accomplish that, you will find yourself more disciplined. That is our next step. Watch for the next habit: “A Little Discipline Goes a Long Way.” My door is always open; figuratively and literally. Stay blessed, Delisle L. Doherty Vice President of Sales and Marketing 832-232-2049 —SPJST—
State Fraternal Director shares March updates I am sure you are as happy as I am that we did not go through another winter storm like last year. The Farmer’s Almanac predicted another February like last year, and I’m glad they got it wrong. Here are a couple of photos to compare last year’s snowpocalypse to this year’s winter event. I don’t know about you, but I am ready . . . so bring on spring!

2022 SPJST Lodge Enhanced Premium Refund Guidelines One of the most important financial benefits that the SPJST Executive Committee has extended to local lodges is the annual Premium Refund Program. The purpose of this program has been to help SPJST lodges keep their operations on a sound financial basis. The formula for calculating the refund is: 1. $1.00 for each paid-up certificate in the lodge; and 2. 1.25% of the lodge’s annual earned premium. To receive the refund in early 2023, lodges must meet the following four-point criteria:
r 1.
Hold Regular Lodge Meetings in Accordance with Section 74 of the SPJST By-Laws and Offer a Well-Rounded Fraternal Program.
Every lodge is required to hold regular meetings to discuss lodge business with its members. Service to each other — as fellow SPJST members — and service to the community is an important part of SPJST’s mission. Rather than mandating a specific number of fraternal activities that your lodge must accomplish in a given year in order to remain in good standing and qualify for incentives, the greater focus is on lodges working to host a healthy mix of “quality” events that bring value to SPJST’s community presence.
r 2.
Return All Requested Paperwork by January 15, 2023. • Form 990 or Form 990-T • Fraternal Activity Summaries • Updated Lodge Officer Listing
r 3.
Submit Routine News/Photos to the Vestnik.
Every lodge is required to submit news of upcoming events, lodge meetings, and/or meeting/event summaries and/or photographs to the Vestnik as well as to their local media. Youth submissions, member features, and obituaries can also be submitted to the Vestnik. Every lodge is required to have a submission in at least 4 of the 24 published Vestniks in 2022. Of course, the lodge may contribute to the Vestnik more frequently. Local news media features can also satisfy these requirements when the features are shared with the Vestnik (see contact details below). Vestniks are published on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. Unless otherwise noted in the Vestnik, the deadline for submitting items for publication are the first and third Mondays of each month at 5 p.m. Articles and photos may be submitted in several ways: • Online at www.spjst.org under the “News” tab • Email to vestnik@spjst.org • Fax to 254-773-8087 (articles only; photos not accepted through fax) • Mail to SPJST Vestnik • PO Box 100 • Temple, TX 76503-0100 • Text to 254-534-0807
r 4.
Share Lodge/Member Activities and Stories on Social Media.
Lodges are encouraged to share lodge/member activities and stories on Facebook and/or Instagram. Some examples include lodge members serving a meal at a soup kitchen; members cleaning a cemetery; food drive for local pantry; hosting a heritage or cultural event; and contribution to non-profit organization. The Communication Department is available to assist with fulfilling the lodge’s social media requirement.

Of the 36 players who participated in the sixround tournament, eight were members. We had players from the Dallas-Fort Worth area, South Texas, and our local area.

There is also a museum located in the city that houses a lot of memorabilia from the movie. She also shared the Serenity Prayer which was read at Evelyn Scaff’s funeral service. Next came the business for the day. Due to time restraints, the minutes were not read but were presented in writing for those who wished to read them. Treasurer Claire Rooney gave the financial report, and we seem to be in good financial shape. Dues are coming in
with about 30 members up-to-date in this area. Marlene Bass sent out cards to several members, and announcements about the well-being of some of our members were made by others. Robyn Brownlee is back in the hospital with pneumonia after a bout with Covid, Al Kercho passed away recently in the Dallas area, and Maria Nuncio’s cousin passed away recently. Our prayers go out to each of them and their families during these difficult times. Lucy Martinez, Delores York, Sandi Celusniak, Lisa Ellsworth, and Garland Ellsworth were recognized and thanked for their work in the kitchen. Lunch was delicious. Thank you also to Jeanette Tesar who found a treasure and used it to decorate the lodge hall for Lodge 92’s Valentine’s Day dance. It was a really large heart-shaped arbor . . . just beautiful, and she did a great job setting it up. Thank you for sharing it with us.

President Cathy reminded everyone that we are hosting a cake walk at the lodge’s valentine dance on Sunday afternoon, February 13. Members were asked to step in and help by bringing baked goods that will be part of the festivities. A Ladies Circle logo developed for our group by Treasurer Claire was shared and passed around. From what I heard later, everyone thought it was great. There will be more to come on this project. “Happy Birthday” was sung to our February celebrants - Pauline Morbitzer, Shirley Martin, Judy Schlosser, Claire Rooney, and Bobby Shropshire. Making another year is awesome during these weird times. Our last order of business was exciting. It was the selection of our queen and her court. Delores York, a kind of new member and cousin to President Cathy, was selected as queen. Her at-

tendees were JoAnne Gilley, another newish member, and Patti Williams, a longtime member. Congratulations to all of them on this “high” honor! We would also like to take this time to welcome all members that have continued to support the Ladies Circle. It’s so nice to know that once a month, we will be together again after these difficult couple of years. I’m partial, but our members are the best. The ladies were generous with bringing gifts for door prizes. There were 22, and almost everyone attending received something. That was really cool! For those who did not, candy was shared with them as well so everyone went away happy and full of chocolate! The meeting ended with Vice President Janet leading the group in the blessing of lunch. Bingo followed the meal. Come be with us in March. We’d love to see you. Respectfully submitted, Joan Shropshire, Secretary —SPJST—

“Looking out over the obstacle, I feel my heart in my throat. As I look down 45 feet to the ground, it’s almost like my vision begins to swim a bit. The cheers from my friends to keep going bring me back to my task. With sweaty palms and shaking knees, I reach out and grab the rope connected to my harness, and focus on just moving forward. Step after step, seemingly taking forever. The crowd below goes wild as I find myself on the platform. I have done it; I faced my fear and conquered The Beast!”
This scene goes on every day around the world. Men, women, and children participating in the adventure called “Ropes Course.” The ropes (challenge) course originated with the military. Kurt Hahn, an exile from Nazi Germany, worked for the British Navy during World War II. Hahn’s assignment was to develop a seamanship and survival-training course for British Commandos that demanded teamwork. The first rope courses consisted of ropes strung from trees or from manmade structures, hence the name “ropes course.” Over time, construction techniques and materials were upgraded, and ropes were replaced by steel cables. The

cables were more durable and safe; however, the name “ropes course” stuck. After the war, Kurt Hahn founded Outward Bound, a school dedicated to the character development of young people through wilderness adventures. The commando obstacle course was included in the school’s curriculum. In 1971, several former Outward Bound instructors created Project Adventure, an experiential education program for high schools in Massachusetts. An important component of Project Adventure was the students’ twice-a-week use of the ropes course and initiatives (or low ropes) course. The Project Adventure staff found that the group discussion held after
each event was a valuable part of the learning and therapeutic process. At Camp Kubena, we have a low ropes and a high ropes course. Our low ropes elements are structured activities that are literally low-to-the-ground. Safety and spotting techniques are implemented by our trained facilitators. Purposely geared toward team building, we are utilizing elements like the commitment bridge. These obstacles can only be successfully navigated by utilizing effective teamwork. The navigation of these obstacles is a great tool for groups to selfexamine the overall effectiveness of their team.
The high ropes elements are challenging activities that are literally highabove-the-ground. They are geared more toward individual challenges. Our trained facilitators will guide groups through the high ropes elements. Camp Kubena’s High Ropes Course - nicknamed The Beast - is a unique program: It is a high reward, seemingly high risk activity. While there is some risk involved in any ropes course, it has been greatly minimized by our strict and thorough safety measures. On Raider’s Bridge, for example, participants wear a safety harness. If they fall, they are suspended in the air by a safety (belay) line. The participants may logically understand that they are safe, but their knees still shake when they are 45 feet in the air. In other words, the perceived risk is much greater than the actual risk.
This is what makes the Camp Kubena Ropes Course a mental challenge as well as a physical one. Our “Challenge by Choice” philosophy gives campers and adults the opportunity to get out of their comfort zone and experience a great adventure while learning important life lessons. —SPJST—

2021 Youth Club Member Update - Merit Points and Meeting Attendance Fourth Quarter Merit Points and Meeting Attendance The totals below in the column labeled “Pts” are merit points earned in the January to December 2021 youth year. This is total merit points for the 2021 youth year. Please see “What is the Merit Point System?” for complete information about the contest. The number in the column labeled “Mtgs” is the number of meetings each youth club member has attended from January to December 2021. Please see “What is an Active Youth Member?” below to determine number of meetings needed to participate in youth activities. What is the Merit Point System? Youth club members earn merit points for participating in SPJST lodge, district, and state activities. At the end of the youth year, points are totaled and the youth with the highest points in the youth club receive cash awards. Contest Dates January 1 to December 31, 2021 Merit Point Contest Age Divisions Junior—Entering Kindergarten or Age 5 to Age 12 Teen—Age 13 Years to High School Senior Rules The youth leader or assistant youth leader is responsible for keeping track of the merit points for each active member of the youth club. The points are to be sent to the State Fraternal Director on the Quarterly and Merit Point Reports each quarter. Youth club members are also encouraged to keep up with their points and turn them in to the youth leader on a quarterly basis. This system helps both the youth leader and the youth member keep better records of youth participation. Current, official Quarterly and Merit Point Reports, available from the State Fraternal Director, may only be used in the Merit Point Contest. The Quarterly and Merit Point Reports sent to the State Fraternal Director by the youth leader will be kept on file for at least six months following the conclusion of the contest.
Merit points are earned for only those activities listed under Youth Point Values. An activity can only earn points in one category on the point sheet. When in doubt about any activity earning points, contact the State Fraternal Director prior to the contest conclusion. Everyone will be subject to the same rules in every contest. Failure to comply with any rule shall mean immediate withdrawal. Merit Point Awards Awards are presented on the district and state levels in the junior and teen merit point contests. At each District YAD, the Home Office presents first through third place awards to top qualifying junior and teen youth club members. The top three junior and teen youth club members with the most points in each district will receive awards. In the event of a tie, all who tied for first through third places will receive the award. A youth may only receive the state award once in the age division. State Teen and State Junior awards are presented at State YAD. District Junior and Teen Point Awards First Place - $30 Second Place - $25 Third Place - $20 What is an Active Youth Member? A youngster with a current SPJST insurance certificate may enter the youth program the youth year that he/she will be entering kindergarten. To be considered active, youth club member must attend a majority (seven) of the monthly meetings during the year. The youth must attend the majority of these meetings at his/her home youth club. In those instances where a lodge does not have a youth club, the youngster may attend adult lodge meetings or the meetings of another youth club. The youngster will be eligible for camp and Youth Achievement Day (YAD) after the completion of his/her kindergarten year. Active youth members must be single and not be pregnant or a parent. The age of the youth on June 1 of the
current youth year will be the recognized age in the SPJST Youth Program (camp, YAD, contests, etc.). The 2021 youth year began January 1 and ends December 31. Youth club eligibility ends when the youth graduates from high school. Dist Ldg Name Pts Mtgs

In Loving Memory of Ashley Victorick November 29, 1976 ~ February 13, 2022 District Five President • Lodge 88, Houston • Past Finance Committee Secretary • Convention Delegate
To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To appreciate beauty and to find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better than you found it; This is to have succeeded.
In Memoriam In Memory of Ashley Victorick On Sunday, February 13, 2022, Ashley Don Victorick - son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend - died peacefully at 45 years of age at St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan, Texas. Ashley was born on November 29, 1976, in Bryan to Donnie and Janice (Albright) Victorick. He graduated from Ashley Victorick Snook High School in 1995. He attended Blinn Junior College in Brenham to serve as the
men’s basketball team statistician/driver/coordinator and any other job Coach Waldo Dalchau gave him. After two years, Ashley transferred to Texas A&M University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting in December 1999. While attending school, he worked at First Federal Bank in Bryan, learning everything he could about lending and finance until moving to Houston to work in the oil and gas industry. In doing that work, his Type A personality served him well. Ashley enjoyed the challenge and the tedious aspect of a tax return—it was his favorite time of the year, even though he’d say otherwise. He’d often joke when his mom or sister would complain about not balancing an account and missing $16. He’d laugh at the amount and
say when they could add some zeroes behind their missing money, he’d help them find it. It was an inside joke that we still laugh about today! While in Houston, Ashley served Texas A&M as Vice President and Past President of the Houston A&M Club, chairing its biggest fundraising events. Ashley was a lifelong member of SPJST, serving as District Five President, secretary of the SPJST Finance Committee, and a delegate at the 2021 SPJST Convention. Ashley helped in almost all areas of SPJST throughout the years. Being involved in many areas, he saw a need to speed up the tabulation process at District and State Youth Achievement Days and created a program to expedite it. Ashley supported Lodge 9, Snook at its annual fundraiser and would offer ideas for improvement to help the lodge raise more money. He also supported the youth in every endeavor and especially enjoyed preparing the local king and queen contestants for
competition because he saw so much value in the public speaking contests. At Lodge 88, Houston, Ashley served in many capacities as a member and past chair of Lodge 88 Board of Trustees, and most recently as treasurer. Perhaps his favorite time spent at the lodge was serving as bar chair because it combined his love for helping people and his ability to analyze data. He took pride in managing the bar operations. He considered it a personal accomplishment if he had to wait to close the lodge because people enjoyed themselves too much to leave. However, he never rushed anyone out the door, and customer service was always a priority. Ashley was a member of the Bingo Committee at Lodge 88, and customer service was again his goal. The family has heard many stories about his Thursday nights at Bingo in the Heights and how he helped players and workers. In fact, last Thursday as he was in the hospital, he received several texts asking

where his smiling face was. A life welllived is in the service to others. The Bingo Committee members were his second family, and he so enjoyed his Thursday nights spent with them. It’s impossible to detail every committee or event he chaired or every heart he touched with his kind and caring nature. During his mother’s illness, he was the perfect caregiver for his mother. Ashley was the all-around cheerleader for his many friends and family. Without his attendance at ball games, track meets, fundraisers, and youth camps, it will leave a hole in many hearts. He is tremendously missed by niece Addison, whom he adored more than anyone. They were best friends and spent hours playing games, cooking, watching movies, texting, and talking about life. He rarely missed her softball or basketball games and never missed a dance recital. Ashley was an avid high school and college football, basketball, and track fan. Few people could rival his statistical knowledge on where an athlete attended high school or college. Never bet against him on a sports trivia question! He had never missed the UIL Boys State Basketball Tournament, attending 45 consecutive years - his first one at four months old. Sports were always a large part of his life, and he enjoyed every opportunity to watch the events. He was also an excellent cook. His dream was to open a bakery to make cookies and pastries for others to enjoy. But never ask him for a recipe because he couldn’t give you one! Ashley was preceded in death by his mother, Janice Victorick; grandparents Steve and Vlasta Victorick and Oscar and Mary (Woodburn) Albright; and special great-uncle and aunt who served as Papa and Grandma, Adolph C. and Emmagene Woodburn Sebesta. Ashley is survived by his dad, Donnie; sister Melissa and husband Allen Brown; a special niece, Addison Brown of Friendswood; aunts Lucille Hurley of Bryan and Janice Jahns and husband Wallace Jahns, all of Cypress; uncle David Victorick of Cypress; and many cousins whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by the many friends and adopted family he’s made throughout the years. The family received visitors from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, February 18 at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell, with a rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral mass was
VĚSTNÍK held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan on Saturday, February 19 at noon, with Father Brian Eilers and Monsignor John McCaffery officiating. Interment was at Oaklawn Cemetery in Somerville immediately following the mass. Serving as pallbearers were Allen Brown, Keith Casey, Dex Dean, Dillon Dean, Bill Hurley, Steven Jahns, and David Latigo. The family asks friends to contribute to the Donnie, Janice, and Ashley Victorick Scholarship Fund at SPJST. Our goal is to fund three scholarships, and we can do it with your help! Ashley supported SPJST youth and believed in helping them further their education. Contributions can be made online at https://spjst.org/victorick-scholarshipfund/ or mailed to SPJST, PO Box 100, Temple, Texas 76503. —SPJST—

In Memory of Rammy Jurica Rammy Alan Jurica, age 51, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2022, at Ennis Regional Medical Center. He was surrounded by his closest family members at the hospital. Rammy was born on June 18, 1970, to Raymond and Barbara Jurica. He spent the majority of his life in Ennis, with the exception of living in Rammy Jurica Arlington while attending college. Many people knew Rammy as a fixture at Tom’s Food Market, a business started by his grandfather, Anton Jurica. The store is a family-owned business, which has been around for 68 years. It passed to Raymond Jurica, and Rammy helped to run and manage it. Rammy was known for having a larger-than-life personality and incredible sense of humor. He was always quick with a joke and a smile. He loved
to laugh and make others laugh, which was truly a gift to us all. He knew all the names of the customers’ children and the children loved being recognized and acknowledged. He graduated from St. John’s Catholic School and obtained his business degree from University of Texas at Arlington. Over the years, he touched the lives of many, either at school, college, at various dirt racing tracks, and of course, at the store. He leaves behind a wealth of extended family members, aunts and uncles, cousins, and multiple friends - some of which his family doesn’t even know. As most people know, his true passion was dirt track car racing. He participated as a driver from the age of 14 at 85 Speedway, being one of their youngest drivers. He would travel with racing buddies to compete around the country. He also specialized in building race car motors. In his later years, he acted as a consultant and advised other racers on the finer points of race car design and construction. He is survived by his parents, Raymond and Barbara Jurica; sister Cynthia Jurica Page; brother-in-law Karl; niece Loren; nephew Tony; brother Jason Jurica; sister-in-law Gretchen; and beloved pets yellow lab Benelli and black cat Toby. Rammy also enjoyed taking Benelli for rides and said she rode “shotgun” when they went out. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Anton and Effie (Genevieve) Jurica; and maternal grandparents Joe and Mary Matous. A memorial will be scheduled at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Rammy’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Betty Macalik —SPJST—

Lekce dvacetdva Lesson 22 Parts of Speech Zájméno - Pronoun You remember that in the study of English, a pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun. In Czech, there are seven types of pronouns: 1. Personal - já, ty, on, ona, oni, ony, my, and vy. 2. Possessive - můj, tvůj, jeho, její, náš, váš, etc. 3. Demonstrative - ten, ta, to, tento, tato, toto, onen, ona, ono. 4. Interrogative - kdo? co? který? jaký? čí? 5. Relative - který, jenž (who, which, that), kdo, co 6. Indefinite - někdo, některý, nějaký, kdo-si, co-si. Quantitative pronouns: každý, všechen; sám, sama, samo, týž, táž, též - latter all expressing identity. 7. Negative - nikdo, nic, žádný S
S
S
1. Personal pronouns The longer forms - mne, mně, tebe, tobě - are used in emphasis and after prepositions. The shorter forms - mi, mě, tě, ti - are used when no stress is needed, and are used after the stressed word. Psal mi. Znáš mě? On mi psal. Ty mě znáš?
There is a special reflexive pronoun - se - for all three persons, singular, and plural. Example: Já se mýji. On se mýje. My se mýjeme. S
S
S
Example: Ženy donesly Chlapi donesli všichni (both sexes) donesli. After prepositions, of course, the j becomes ň - do něho, k němu, s ní, s nimi, etc. S
S
2. Possessive pronouns correspond to the personal pronouns. For the 1st person singular, the possessive pronoun is můj (má, mé); and plural - náš. For the 2nd person singular, it is tvůj (tvá, tvé); and plural váš (vaše). For the 3rd person singular, masculine and neuter, the possessive pronoun is jeho, which remains invariable; for the 3rd person singular feminine, it is její; and for the 2nd person plural, it is jejich for all three genders. It also remains invariable. S
S
S
S
který, jaký - the distinction between these two is not always strictly observed. S
Let us note here an important spelling rule: When the masculine sex only is involved, the pronoun is oni. When both sexes are involved, the pronoun is still oni. When only the female sex is involved, the pronoun is ony. Modifying adjectives and verbs must agree with these endings.
S
S
4. Interrogative pronouns - kdo, koho, komu, o kom, kým; co, čeho, čemu, o čem, čím? pro co, proč, nač, zač.

Indefinite pronouns někdo, některý, nějaký, někde, někdy; the suffix si: kdo-si, co-si, kde-si, kdy-si, čí-si; also the suffix koli: kdokoli, cokoli, jaký-koli, kterýkoli; and the prefix lec-: lec-kdo. Každý may be used only with countable objects; všechen for uncountable objects. In the plural, všichni does duty for both countables and uncountables. Texas is blessed to be a large state with many Czech festivals, events, and communities. Texas Czechs have not forgotten their ancestors’ journey by ship for a better life in America. The immigrants did not speak English and sold all of their worldly possessions to purchase their passage in hopes of a better life. They quickly proved their strong work ethic, faith, extreme pride in their heritage, and musical talents. They provided for their families by raising livestock, poultry, and boasted the best crops and fertile farmland. Their excellent sausage, kolaches, and pastries are now world renowned. Our rich history invites our prideful traditions to be passed down by these contestants through our pageant so others can honor their family history and uphold our deep cultural roots.
