For decades, readers relaxed after work with a copy of the Spokane Daily Chronicle, one of the nation’s last local evening newspapers. Each night, thousands would leaf their way through the pages of Spokane’s “afternoon friend” before eating dinner and spending time with their family. In the summer of 1992, without much fanfare, the Chronicle published its final paper. The front page headline read “IT’S BEEN GREAT...” The Chronicle was gone. Generations were now without the newspaper that was here long before there was a “Spokesman” or a “Review” in town.

The Spokane Daily Chronicle will be available free for Spokesman-Review subscribers, and only in our e-Edition, delivered digitally by 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Chronicle e-Edition will have completely different local, state and national stories than The Spokesman-Review, with a focus on breaking news — including a full page of completely different comics from the morning paper, as well as new puzzles that can be worked directly on your mobile phone, tablet or computer.
