andreea

Hi! My name is Andreea Toma and and I am an urban designer with an interst in landscape architecture. As a young and enthusiast urban planner, I emerged into my professional career while I was still studying for my Bachelor in Urban Planning and Landscape Design. As I was finishing my first part of education I realized that I have a calling for the “movement” of the city, therefore I completed my Master in Urban Mobility. In just two years my professional career developed quickly and I became the youngest urban planner for strategic planning in the country with the biggest active portfolio.

RECOMANDATIONS CIVITTA Strategy & Consulting Str. Belgrad, nr. 10-12, sector 1, București +40 318053588 office@civitta.ro

TOMA ANDREEA RECOMMANDANTION It’s my absolute pleasure to recommend Andreea Toma as a valuable employee. I met Andreea Toma in her 3rd year of studies at the UAUIM School or Urban Planning during the urban planning studio. Dedication, passion and creativity were the main qualities of Andreea which made her stand out of the crowd. Her passion for public spaces convinced me to recommend her for an internship at Space Syntax Romania. After Andreea finished her bachelor studies we met again at the Urban Mobility Master programme (UAUIM) where she was my student for two years. Her advanced graphics skills and interest towards cycling and pedestrian infrastructure convinced me to bring Andreea to the urban mobility consulting team I was part of at that time (FIP consulting & Interactive Transportation Planning). As part of a multidisciplinary team Andreea mostly supported me in doing the urban development, cycling and pedestrian infrastructure and parking components of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP) for multiple small and medium sized cities. Field trips, thematic research, community meetings, GIS analysis are just a few of the tasks she mastered without problems. In these complex projects Andreea proved great problem-solving skills managing to understand local challenges and finding solutions together with relevant stakeholders. While managing multiple projects (where we had to work on 3-4 SUMPs at the same time) Andreea still respected deadlines while being able to deliver good quality results. After developing a common methodology Andreea managed to even cover SUMP Slobozia on her own (cycling, pedestrian, parking and urban development). From here, she started to work without my support being able to further increase the quality of her work. This could be easily observed by the SUMP of the Year award she got in 2017 for SUMP Turda. Even if Andreea was involved in many extracurricular activities, she managed to remain an outstanding student and finish her master’s degree with a great project. As one of the best students I met in my 6 years of teaching at the university, I can proudly recommend her as being a creative, pasionate, communicative and dedicated young urban planning professional with great skills in urban planning (urban mobility, public space design and community development). Her rapid evolution after finishing the master’s degree definitely proves her skills in the field of urban mobility and is for sure something I am extremely proud of.

20th february 2018 To whom it may concern: It is a pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for Andreea Toma. I have known Andreea since 2011 - her first year of study in Landscape Design and Planning Program, Faculty of Urban Planning of “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urbanism. I have been Andreea’s teacher since the first year of faculty until her final year of Bachelor Degree. Andreea has positioned herself as a very hard-working and determined person, always expressing her interest in the whole process of urban and landscape planning and the affiliate fields. So it is only appropriate to say that going further with her studies in this field will help develop her career as an urban and landscape planner. I have worked closely with Andreea in school and I have noticed her responsible behavior and her ability to get the projects done by showing commitment and perseverance. During her studies in our University, Andreea has proved to be a very serious and ambitious student, as well as a very sociable and pleasant person for her schoolmates and her teachers. Andreea has also proven outstanding organizational skills, being able to keep a balance between practice and theory while completing the projects and tasks with great results, despite deadline pressure. In addition to this, she shares her spare time with extracurricular activities like volunteering and partaking seminars and workshops. Moreover, Andreea has a wonderful rapport with colleagues, having great communication skills and team work experience. It is beyond doubt that Andreea is a self-motivated student who works remarkably by herself as well as in project teams and study groups. She has a strong sense of interacting and communicating with the people at school and also the people she meets during her on-site study. I have also worked with Andreea in extracurricular activities, during a few workshops where she has shown her creativity and ability to work on real life projects. One example is the ”Urban and Landscape Design for Romanian Seaside” workshop, supported by the Municipality of Mangalia City, Constanta County. She has proven to have perseverance, initiative and creativity. I believe this program would be a great opportunity for Andreea to complete and perfect her knowledge, in order to become one of the best specialists in our field.

THE INITIATIC GARDEN

This project was focused on the restoration of an old orchard. The concept of the project is focusing on the o Initiative Garden, the arrangement and guidance, and points of view on the garden. For this project I only used natural materials and endemic plants. The pavilion is an important attraction of the garden, marking the end of the initiatic road and return to the past. Marking paths through the grasses help emphasizing its path and direction. The orchard is important in this project as part of history of the place. Therefore, we proposed and promote its conservation so it’s becoming usable by implementing new instalations in this area.

(RE)DESCOVERING CHAIN OF LAKES

The Garden of SensationsThis project started as an Urban Design project for an isolated community in one of the Bucharest peripheries. In the area we studied, an important element is the Colentina Lake, which now is the most polluted lake in the city. The existing situation of this neighborhood is desolating. The shore of the lake was used as a landfill for garbage. The first goal of this project was to ecologize the area, fallowed by bringing the communities together. The design concept is fallowing the organic lines of an willow breanch, which is the local tree of this area. Futhermore, we created series of thematic gardens, that are connected with small alleys.

PERMACULTURE RESEARCH CENTER

The project is located in Gorgota village, Prahova, Romania. I chose this site because it has a unique natural character, being at the boundary between two natural limits , emphasizing the idea of transcendence between two environments. Besides the physical natural reason I chose to implement the concept of permaculture in this village because the agriculture method that is practiced in Romania is invasive and uncontrolled, leading to a negative impact on the natural and anthropogenic environment. The research focuses in particular on the study permaculture in relation to different environments and different species. This area is devoted to research and public involvement In this area the intensity increases involvement are organized planting and design workshops. The last area is dedicated to nature. Here plantations are found all on permaculture features, but it is allowed to develop minimal human involvement. The outline zone is a protected natural area without human intervention

WALKABLE NEIGHBORHOOD

The concept is based for 80% of topology of the walkable neighborhood. The paths are projected on different pedestrian topologies. Efficient pedestrian paths, that reduces the time of walking between two points of interest and loisir path that improve and promote the landscape and ambiance with the existing vegetation. We created an algorithm of different patterns that fallowed different walking typologiess. I was focused and taking advantege of the unused space that we find between the residential blocks. The concept was to create routes that are defined by tree characteristics: time, destination and difficuty.

THE ADAPTABILITY OF A CITY CENTER TO THE BIKE INFRASTRUCTURE This research aims to deepen the relationship between the design and planning of bicycle transport in the city center, how they can contribute to creating an active way of moving and how to turn the city into a living center. In order to understand these premises, the paper is divided into seven chapters dealing with the theme of velo mobility. Starting from a general level of understanding of urban mobility applied at multiple territorial levels, the work is based on the types of velo infrastructure and design methods applied in the central areas of cities.

GREEN STRATEGY OF PIATRA NEAMT CITY This project is focusing on a green mobility strategy in Piatra Neamt City, Romania. The purpose of the project is creating dedicated routes for pedestrian and bicycles. For an idustrial development with large road and huge space dedicated for parking, we reorganasie the city and put the citizens fist. This was a pilot project from where we developed further project for green mobility.
