Autumn 2023
A Layered Life
Within these pages, color-drenched textiles and picturesque wallpaper herald a season that holds family and tradition dear while allowing room for the unexpected. Styled on location at a renovated historic Victorian-era house and in our studio in Durham, North Carolina, these pages showcase how you can layer wallpaper, home decor and fabric designed by independent artists around the world. Spoonflower custom prints your favorite design on any product just for you to uniquely mix and match your style. To learn more about the products and prints, tap on the shoppable links you’ll find throughout this book or visit the index to see all our featured artists.
From the Editor’s Desk
In dreaming up this fall look book and the unique position that Spoonflower could have for this season, the focus became obvious. A layered life: an opportunity to interweave joyful patterns, vivid color and cozy layers into all aspects of your home.
Join us in a beautiful Victorian home layered with rich history, character, and charm. We imagine you filling your home with layers of textures and patterns that will be the backdrop to daily moments made more sacred as the days become shorter. It’s about the life lived in between the layers of heirloom-quality patterns that bring us comfort and feed our creativity.
Mixing prints and patterns can be intimidating, but we are here to help demystify the concept. Hopefully, these pages will inspire you to have fun with layers in your own life this season.

Layering It On: A Guide To Pattern Mixing
With so many Spoonflower designs to choose from, it’s easier than ever to create a luxurious layered look in any space. From your walls to your bedding, follow these simple tips below to master the art of pattern mixing.
1. Curate a Color Scheme
To maintain a cohesive look, select a color scheme of hues that speak to your personal style and the theme of the project. Opt for designs containing 1-3 colors, and pair them with complementary prints from your color palette.
2. Find a Hero
Choose a statement print to serve as the focal point of the collection. This hero design should reflect your personal style and the theme of the collection, as well as the color palette.
3. Create Scale Variety
When mixing patterns, consider the size of their elements. Combine large-scale patterns with smaller, more intricate ones to create visual contrast and avoid overwhelming the eye.
4. Mix Pattern Types
Experiment with different pattern types to add depth and texture. Mix stripes with florals, ikat prints with polka dots, or even animal prints with abstract patterns.
PRO TIP: Curate your entire collection from the same artist to find designs that color coordinate.
5. Trust Your Gut
Ultimately, mixing patterns is an art, not a science. Trust your instincts and personal style.
Your project should reflect your unique taste and personality and at the end of the day, as long as you choose things you love individually, you will create a space that works for you.
