Editor’s Comments With the festive season just around the corner, it’s time to get your property ready! This is the tradition in Barbados. We paint, clean, wash and de-clutter. This year will be no different so take a look inside at some of our tips. Sometimes it can take very little to freshen up your property. Covid is still with us unfortunately but the borders are open and visitors are once again enjoying Bajan hospitality. As the vaccine gives us new confidence, we urge everyone who can, to avail of it. In Barbados the government is doing a sterling job of bringing the vaccine to the public so check your daily paper or social media for the latest location of the mobile vaccination unit. Pamela Hiles, Editor Exciting and new properties for rent are in this edition. The Estates at St George is an emerging new development for those looking at retiring in a pleasant environment. In a scenic country environment with many facilities on site- all at a great price, what more can you ask for? Royal Westmoreland is, as their logo says, proven. It’s a well established golfing resort with a beach facility, tennis and spa options. The choice of luxury accommodation on this beautiful resort is endless. You really can’t go wrong with one of their stunning villas. Remember, you can find us on social media and on www.barbadospropertynews.com. Stay safe! On the Cover: Gajah

Do you really need all that STUFF???

It’s time to tidy up

It’s coming up to the holiday time folks. Traditionally it’s the time in Barbados to get your home ready for the festive season ahead. The rainy season is coming to a close with warmer temperatures and glorious breezy cool days ahead. Visitors and family are coming over. Time to get the home ship shape. Many of you were at home over covid, accumulating and hoarding over the past year and a half. Retail therapy helped with the being at home challenges. Now it’s time to de-clutter. We know many of the things you have gotten have a sentimental value but do you REALLY need them and do you need to keep them forever? Starting with the larger items beds – sofas – wardrobes – barbeque - look around your home. If you’re not really using it, let it go! Maybe it could go to a charity or you could sell it on one of the many local social media sites that offer that facility. There are many needy people out there and if you call the Salvation Army or some of the other established organisations pick up can be arranged for the bigger items. Don’t do it all at once. Start with one project and then move on. If it’s the big things, do that one week. Another week attack the wardrobe. Do you need ten pairs of jeans? Again, you can sell on line or donate. Create a happy team of clothes in your closet where everything is worn and everything fitting and current. If these things don’t make you feel terrific, why are you keeping them? What about the kitchen? Have you gone through your food cupboard recently? Have you checked the sell by dates on tinned food? Are there weevils eating away at your Weetabix?

You may be in for a shock. Take the opportunity to take everything out, cupboard by cupboard, access what you need, get rid of what you don’t and line the shelves and start fresh. Then look around your home to see how changing the small things can make a big difference. Be daring and paint one wall a different colour. Look at changing the throw cushions, adding a lamp or an accent rug. There is plenty of choice in Barbados for these types of things and stylish accessories can transform your home. What about a lovely artistic piece if you are flush or a cheerful print? Looking at a blank wall is boring. You can often make wonderful collages of family photographs that make charming viewing and don’t cost a lot to do. Experiment with different textured frames that are varying sizes. Too often we take photos and they stay in the phone or digital camera forever. Get them out on display! What about the windows? New curtains? Or maybe time for a modern blind or window dressing. There are some lovely bamboo and wooden blinds in the stores that give that tropical look. How about a fresh potted plant in that corner that always looks sparce? This brings nature into the house and adds colour. And don’t forget the outside of the property. You’ve already trimmed the trees etc for hurricane season but it’s time to add a fresh coat of paint and do those much needed repairs to decking and guttering after the rainy season. Lots to do in the next few months. Use this time wisely and make a difference in the way you live. De- Clutter and decorate creating a stress free space for the holidays!

Organized clothing is much easier to access!
