ANGLESEY BIKE STARS Anglesey secondary school pupils took part in a full day of mountain biking at a competition in Amlwch Port in June. The event saw 43 young people get on their bikes and battle it out in a number of heats, in four age categories, two for boys and two for girls. Overall winners were Ysgol David Hughes and one winning individual from each group went on to the North Wales Final held in Nant Bwlch y Haearn in Conwy. The Outdoor Partnership would like to thank Welsh Cycling, 5 x 60 officers and Amlwch Community Council in working together to make the day a great success.

Bringing Functional Fitness To YOU! A brand new outreach fitness programme has hit Anglesey. The initiative commenced in June and is co-ordinated by the Holyhead and Anglesey Weightlifting and Fitness Club. It has already seen an increase in all of the locations, with double figures at Bodedern and Wylfa sites. The form of fitness is based on
functional style fitness which provides fast adaptation for clients. Ray Williams said: “We dispel the myth that lots of women have about resistance training building big muscles, and educate them into the fact that it assists in body sculpture and weight loss. “I vary most sessions and include all components of fitness into the sessions. The people who attend
leave having completed an hour of sustained effort.” Our Beach Camps will commence in Trearddur Bay and Benllech on the first week of July. For further information about the sessions, visit the Facebook page www.f acebook .com/ Hawf cFunctionalf itnessOutreachProgramme
A 5k race
A mile-long family fun run
Sporting Celebrities and workshops
… the first ever Go Dad Run An estimated three thousand people turned up to take part in a wide range of activities when the first ever Go Dad Run event was held in Llangefni on Father’s Day. Go Dad Run, sponsored by Lilly UK, was devised by the former athlete Colin Jackson because he wanted to create a family event for Father's Day that would focus men's attention on their health issues and help raise funds for his chosen charity, Prostate Cancer UK. Almost 400 locals took part in the main 5K race and the Bee Y's fun run and there were also many other sporting opportunities with master classes from former internationals Mark Foster (swimming), Rupert Moon (rugby), Mickey Thomas (football), Jamie Baulch (athletics) and Michaela Breeze (weightlifting). Weather presenter Sian Lloyd and Colin's actress sister Suzanne Packer were both at Go Dad Run to cheer on their family members and saw 16-year-old Iolo Griffiths cross the line in first place at the end of the showpiece 5K. Colin was the official starter for both races before taking part in the fun run with his Dad and his nephew and he was delighted with how the inaugural Go Dad Run went. "It was a real success, everyone in the team delivered and we had great support from every part of Llangefni thanks to the work of the organisers, Menter Môn and volunteers. I'd like to thank all those who came to run, walk, watch, sponsor, oversee the master classes or just be part of the Go Dad Run festival and for the way that everyone really got into the spirit of the event and helped us to raise awareness and funds for a great cause."
