#NEMEZIZTOUR HITS 10TH ANNUAL RUSH FEST The #NemezizTour, hosted by adidas and SOCCER.COM, stopped by the 10th annual Rush Fest in Colorado Springs, CO in early July. This week long festival of soccer is held by Rush Soccer Club, the largest youth soccer club in the world. Rush brought in around 1000 players from 50+ teams in the U12 age group. The teams spanned from the Colorado area all the way to Hawaii and Belize. Throughout Rush Fest, players had the opportunity to test out the brand new Dust Storm Pack from adidas Soccer. This eye catching range of cleats features the Nemeziz 17+ 360Agility, ACE 17+ Purecontrol and X 17+ Purespeed. After an overview of the new cleats, players were allowed to pick their size and challenge their teammates in a 2v2 match. The outright crowd favorite for the week

was the new Nemeziz. This game changing cleat is built for players that can change direction on a dime and always cut and dice through the defense. Dillon, from Pikes Peak Rush, noted that the cleat was “very comfortable, very light and you can move pretty easily in them.” Devon, from Rush Wisconsin West, stated, “I love the bandage type texture and material.” The Agilitybandage featured on the Nemeziz 17+ wraps around your midfoot, providing a compression fit and a barefoot-like touch on the ball. The cleat also features revolutionary Torsiontapes that offer ultimate comfort and lockdown support. Adam, from Rush Wisconsin West, felt as if this material made his foot, “feel like it’s almost in a sock.” 3

PLAYERS TEST LATEST INNOVATION FROM ADIDAS SOCCER Devon also mention that he liked the “laceless design and low cut collar.” This laceless strike zone allows you to make one of the purest touches on the ball, providing ultimate control, taking your game to the next level. The Dual Lock Collar also offers a more secure lockdown around the ankle for those explosive cuts and moves made on the pitch. Throughout the event, players shared their experience on Instagram and Twitter using the hashtag #NEMEZIZTOUR to share their love for the new adidas cleats and also be entered for a chance to win a full range of Tango apparel from adidas soccer after the tour ends in September. Overall the #NEMEZIZTOUR at Rush Fest was a huge success for players and parents alike. Ariel Passarelli, Rush Soccer Accounts Manager, summed up the event well by stating, “It gives players an opportunity to try something that is new and entertaining … and we look forward to having them back at every event.” 4

Alabama Rush

ALABAMA RUSH ATTENDS RUSH FEST ALABAMA RUSH ATTENDED ITS FIRST RUSH FEST THIS SUMMER 2017. This summer Alabama Rush sent its first two boys to Rush Fest. They were paired up with Wisconsin West and also got to guest play with Washington Rush. They were able to play against teams from Iowa, Hawaii, Georgia, Colorado, and New England. When the boys were asked what they enjoyed most about Rush Fest, they both responded, “Meeting all the other players and coaches from all the other Rush teams.” They said it was an amazing experience all around. Not only was soccer fun, but going white water rafting during their rest day from the fields was great too! Next year Alabama Rush hopes to bring even more teams and players to be part of this great opportunity.

WHAT IS REACH? Rush Equipment Assisting Children, The REACH Program, was established in 2002 as a humanitarian effort within Rush Soccer. Players donate back their used gear and equipment and then donate their time to help sort, package and ship gear to less fortunate children around the globe. To date REACH has collected & distributed over 50,000 pieces of soccer equipment. In Rush Nation we answer the question “What is REACH?” with the reply “REACH is YOU!” Player by player, team by team, club by club we COLLECTIVELY and COLLABORATIVELY amount to SOMETHING so much LARGER than we could ever be on our own. AND WE SEE THAT IT MATTERS! At Rush Soccer we believe instilling our Core Values and allowing our players the opportunity to participate in REACH we are developing lifelong responsible citizens of the world.

California Rush

REPRESENTING THE WEST COAST EVERYWHERE WE GO REACHING BU19 NATIONAL CUP STATE FINAL AND BU15 PRESIDENT’S REGIONALS SEMIS SHOWS THAT OUR TEAMS CONTINUE TO PUT CALI RUSH ON THE MAP. We wish to congratulate our B98 Master Class for reaching the National Cup State Final. Despite losing a hard fought full match in penalties and with a shaky start in the group stage, California Rush continued to build on the momentum once sparked just a few short years ago at the inception of the Club. Meanwhile, our B02 Nero squad blazed through State Cup by taking the President’s Division State Cup Championship and made a great run into semi-finals during Regionals in Utah. This squad, led by coach Daniel Walpole, is another great story of a group of young men that has converged through various trials and tribulations over the years. This year they were finally able to showcase what true talent and hard work can produce. We look forward to another Fall season to prepare for the next round of State 8

Cup tournaments, which will only help demonstrate the fruits of the Club’s labors. Directors Alejandra Flores and Lucas Kim once again joined the rest of the Rush family at the annual Rush Summit in Colorado Springs. Coach Flores had the distinction of being part of a new Rush Coaching Education pilot program, and helped shape the future of how the Rush Way will be implemented across the country. Alejandra worked with her mentor Matt Mittelstaedt, Technical Director from Virginia Rush (as well as Northeast National Technical Director) and followed a rigorous curriculum designed by Rush Coaching Education Director Matt Saul (Pikes Peak Rush). Both Alejandra and Lucas were able to enjoy sessions and presentations from Real Madrid trainers and exchange ideas with a growing number of colleagues from all over the world. To cap it all off, the annual Rush Fest kicked off to help bring back new energy to the west coast.

For the 2017-18 season, Colorado Rush is excited to announce the addition of the Girls Development Academy (DA) to the club. For the past several years, Boys DA has been a part of the player pathway for the boys division, but now it is also an option for girls playing with the Colorado Rush.

This is an exciting time for Colorado Rush as it continues to concentrate efforts on player development across the club, and now has additional avenues to help players realize their potential and succeed at even higher levels in the game. Make no mistake, CO Rush staff are invested in the early development of kids at younger ages who might later benefit from the offering of advanced programs like DA. Delaware Rush

DE RUSH GIRLS MAKE REGION 1 FINALS! DELAWARE RUSH U12 GIRLS PUT IN A VERY STRONG SHOWING AT THE USYSA CHAMPIONSHIPS. THIS WAS THE TEAM’S VERY FIRST EXPERIENCE AT THE CHAMPIONSHIPS AND THEY ADVANCED TO THE FINALS. The 2005 U12 Delaware Rush girls took a big step forward in reaching the Region 1 Finals this past season. As an U12 team, this was the team’s first experience at the USYSA championships and they handled it well. Once the brackets were set, the team quickly realized they had a tough bracket to get out of with Virginia’s runner up, Massachusetts State Champion, and Eastern Pennsylvania’s State Champion all included in their division. The team went into the last game of bracket play either needing a tie or a win against Eastern Pennsylvania State Champion FC Bucks to continue. In a hard fought and very tight game, the Rush girls scored two goals in the last two minutes of play to earn a tough 2-1 win. With that win they were catapulted into the semis and a battle against a rival in Pipeline SC Black (MD). As fate would have it, once again the 05

12

Girls found themselves down late in their semifinal match but they kept fighting. As the match was nearing the end, the girls kept the pressure on to have the game tied. Finally with only two minutes left, Delaware Rush’s Addie Ferriter scored her second goal of the game to put them in front for good 3-2. Unfortunately their string of late match dramatics did not continue in the finals. After losing to a great team in London in the finals, the team can look back on the tournament with great pride. After all, the experience of youth soccer is really what it is all about. Congrats to the girls and to Coach Justin Romano for a great run. Best of luck to all Rush teams in the upcoming fall season! No matter what their goals are on the field, the club is committed to providing an enjoyable experience for all kids in the Denver Metro area who have interest in taking part in the game.

FLORIDA RUSH LAUNCHES INAUGURAL INTERNATIONAL SOCCER TOUR THE FLORIDA RUSH LAUNCHED ITS INAUGURAL ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL SOCCER TOUR TO ITALY THIS SUMMER AND PLAYED IN THE WORLD’S LARGEST YOUTH SOCCER TOURNAMENT IN SAN MARINO Florida Rush launched its inaugural annual international soccer tour to Italy this summer and played in the world’s largest youth soccer tournament in San Marino. The goal of the Florida Rush Italy Soccer Tour was to provide players with an excellent soccer playing experience and opportunity to travel and compete internationally. This program provided players with a magnificent experience, both on and off the soccer field, from training to tournament play in the San Marino Cup to experiencing the history and culture of Italy. Upon arrival in Italy a group comprised of Rush players and parents began an 11-day international soccer tour starting with a tour of

“classic” Rome to such sights as the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Basilica, the Colosseum, the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Vactican Museums, and Roman Forums. During the second day the Rush team participated in a training session at Tre Fontane Sports Center with Italian Football Federation (FIGC) staff coaches. The group then transferred to San Marino, the oldest republic in the world where the players would participate in the San Marino Cup and Opening Ceremonies. The Rush team enjoyed a positive experience playing 5 games in 5 days and competing against teams from around the world. After the tournament was completed the group transferred to Venice, the historic and famous city of canals. The group enjoyed a private boat into Venice and St. Mark’s Square via the Grand Canal. Finally, to enjoy the group’s last day and night together, they traveled to Como, which is located just north of Milan on the Italian-Swiss border. Florida Rush plans on offering an international tour during the summer of 2018 with the goal of developing our players both on and off the field. 13

Hawaii Rush

HAWAII RUSH RUN FOR A NATIONAL TITLE 2017 This past April Hawaii played host to two state championship tournaments. First was the USYSA State Cup. Hawaii Rush ended up taking home 7 State Champions titles from this tournament and 2 Finalists titles. Next was the US Club State Championships which gives Hawaii teams a bid into the national tournament. Rush came up even bigger with eight Champions and two Finalists titles. They completely swept the boys side of the tournament from U13-U18. From the USYSA State Cup the advancement to Far West Regionals in Seattle Washington was in the cards for seven Champions and one wild card (two teams in the U17B age group). Out of the eight teams, three advanced out of pool and two made it all the way to the semifinal game

With the high expense of travel only two teams traveled to Indiana for the US Club Soccer National Cup. Coach Mark Thompson and the 03 Girls went undefeated in the group stage, and went onto win the semifinal in a PK Shootout. The hard work of the girls and coaches fell short of Hawaii Rush’s 3rd National Title in double overtime in the final. A big congratulations to all the teams, players, parents and coaches for your support and hard work that made 15 State championships earned by Hawaii Rush in 2017 such a memorable experience and source of excitement for what the future years have in store.

club’s coaching efforts). Coach Hill was confident going into the competition, and said “We’re all very proud of how the girls played, no matter where they finished.”

Idaho Rush celebrated its 10th year as part of the Rush family in style, and established itself as the leader in helping Idaho youth experience quality soccer. Idaho Rush entered 11 teams in the 2017 State Cup competition. Every team finished in the top 3, including 5 champions, 2 finalists and 4 third-place squads. The 5 cups were more than any other club in the state, and included 3 boys teams (‘98/’99, ‘03 and ‘04) and 2 girls teams (‘03 and ‘04). No other club had champions in both the boys and girls divisions. Rob Hill, the new Director of Coaching for the girls, acknowledged “. . . the wins are a product of doing the process correctly,” (rather than the focus of the

Lee Riley, head coach of both the ‘03 and ‘04 boys champions (and club CEO), also felt good going into State Cup because of how the players had been focusing on the “finer details” all year long, including nutrition, recovery, and classroom sessions to improve their understanding of the game. After having 7 teams in the finals of 2016’s State Cup and each one losing by only a single goal, Coach Riley was proud of the nickname coined by the local newspaper for Idaho Rush: the “new king of Idaho.” The most successful season in club history was definitely a group effort shared by players, parents, coaches and the club’s fantastic partners, including St. Alphonsus Sports Medicine. Long live the king!

BARBER AND DEFELIPPO MOVE TO MLS ACADEMIES TWO MISSISSIPPI RUSH PLAYERS MOVE ONTO MLS ACADEMIES. 2004 PLAYER ANTHONY DEFELIPPO STARTS HIS NEW ADVENTURE WITH PHILADELPHIA UNION AND 2003 PLAYER OWEN BARBER HAS MADE A NEW HOME AT ATLANTA UNITED. Anthony Defelippo has played with Mississippi Rush for the past three years. He grew up in Mobile, Alabama. While living there Anthony grew up playing for Daphne Strike and later with the Gulf Coast Rangers. With our working relationship, both clubs were able to work together to provide many opportunities for Anthony. Defelippo played for the Rush Select program last year and was a regular at the National Training Centers in Memphis. This summer he made the ODP region pool for the 2004 boys this summer. Anthony and his family moved up to Philadelphia and he began his new soccer career on August 5th.

Owen Barber grew up in Atlanta Georgia before moving to Clinton Mississippi. Owen has played for Mississippi Rush for 4 seasons now. He has played in the Rush Select Program, gone to National Training Centers, made the Region III team and played at the inter-regional event where he made the All-Star team. Owen will play for Atlanta United this upcoming season. His rise up the soccer ladder has continued throughout the summer. On July 30th – August 3rd, Owen flew out to Chicago to play in the Generation Adidas event. After a short trip back to Atlanta for preseason, Owen was back on a plane. This time he headed out to Portland, Oregon, to meet up with the US U-14 National Team at training camp. Owen spent August 13th-20th there with the National Team. As a club, we couldn’t be more proud of both of these young men. They have the backing of two very supportive families and everyone at Mississippi Rush. We wish them the best of luck and look forward to watching them play in the upcoming months as we keep up with their progress. 25

YOUNG TEAMS FINDING EARLY SUCCESS WE ARE ONLY IN THE OPENING WEEKS OF THE 2017/18 SEASON, BUT SOME TEAMS ARE ALREADY OFF TO A FLYING START. With tryouts still close in our rearview mirror, some teams are slowly working their way into the start of a new soccer year. Other teams, like the 2009 girls coached by Jason B. and Heidi D. and the 2009 boys coached by Brian W. and Matt H., have hit the ground running. Both teams recently competed in the Show-Me State games in Columbia, MO. Near record temperatures didn’t seem to matter to these groups. “The team earned 2nd place overall in record heat playing up a division. They literally played their hearts out and gave everything they got!” said Heidi D. about her 2009 girls squad. Not to be outdone, the 2009 boys won the championship in impressive fashion scoring 54 goals and not conceding any. The future looks bright for the 2009’s. We can’t wait to see what they do next.

New England Rush

NEW ENGLAND RUSH SUPPORTS FEMALE COACHING STAFF RECENTLY THERE HAS BEEN A LOT OF NEWS REGARDING THE LACK OF FEMALE COACHES IN US SOCCER AT ALL LEVELS. IN CLUB SOCCER, THE CONCEPT OF ATTRACTING AND SUPPORTING FEMALE COACHES IS STILL NEW AND UNCHARTERED TERRITORY FOR MANY ORGANIZATIONS. David Suvak, Technical Director and President of NE Rush Soccer, has always prioritized creating a coaching staff highly representative of women. “It’s very important to make sure our club represents and supports female coaches,” says Suvak, who has a long history of coaching female players from the club to the collegiate level. “Female coaches make great role models for young girls, but women players with a love for the game also tend to become some of the best coaches. They bring something to the table that many men do not.” Currently NE Rush has 7 female coaches on its staff, making up 1/3 of our

total coaching staff. All have impressive soccer histories and come from excellent college programs. Kate Ryder is currently working toward her National ‘D’ license and says that the support the club has offered her has been invaluable. “Rush has provided technical support to help me learn more and be more involved, whether it’s giving me time to run a practice session or offering extra feedback on an assignment,” Ryder says. “It’s been an amazing opportunity.” Ricki Klein, Girls Elite 2003 head coach, has been building her team since they were young. Klein says, “There are so few female coaches in club soccer, so with this chance I like to think that I have the opportunity to create an experience that I often craved as a young female player.” One major challenge of building a female coaching staff may come down to recruiting. Many women players are interested in coaching, but they may not feel like clubs want to support them. If it’s a matter of making potential female coaches aware of the opportunities available to them, New England Rush already has a head start. 27

RUSH FEST IS A BLAST FOR NJ RUSH PLAYERS AND PARENTS NJ RUSH PLAYERS, PARENTS, AND COACH HAVE A BLAST AT RUSH NATION’S ANNUAL CELEBRATION KNOWN AS RUSH FEST.

There were outstanding presenters providing classroom educational sessions covering the Rush Core Values: accountability, advice, empathy, enjoyment, humility, leadership, passion, respect, safety, tenacity, and unity.

It was a warm summer day in Southern New Jersey. Coach Dan Coviello, along with nine players (and parents) from NJ Rush packed their bags and boarded a plane for Colorado Springs, Co.. They were headed for the annual celebration known throughout Rush Nation as Rush Fest.

Then came the day trips… Wait, I thought this was a soccer trip… Yeah right! Day trips included a hike to the summit of Pikes Peak (elevation 14,114’), a white water rafting excursion, exploring the Cave of the Winds Mountain Park, and a visit to Garden of the Gods National Park.

Rush Fest is an annual celebration of U12 (2005 birth year this year) Rush players from around the world. It’s a tremendous bonding experience for the players and parents and a great way to build unity and spread the Rush culture. The soccer is excellent, the education is fun, and the day trips aren’t too bad either.

Sounds like a great experience for all, but we couldn’t say it better than Coach Dan. “My trip to Colorado for #rushfest2017 was absolutely life changing... I met so many great people and kids and truly bonded with my girls and their families... I will never forget this experience and am so fortunate to have been given this opportunity! #rushsoccer.”

On the soccer side, the 9 NJ Rush players were joined by 4 players from Kansas Rush, 2 players from West Texas Rush, and 1 player from Pikes Peak Rush. They played other Rush teams from across the country.

ON TO ITALY SEVERAL OF OUR PLAYERS GOT THE OPPORTUNITY TO TRAVEL ABROAD AND EXPERIENCE SOCCER IN ITALY. The San Marino Cup tour was an incredible experience for the girls. For many it was their first time abroad so they got to experience and see a different culture. The East Coast Rush older girls team was comprised of 12 girls from around New England and Maryland and was coached by RI Rush Technical Director, Joe Dutra. The girls bonded quickly and were given challenges each morning where they needed to learn new facts about each other before

breakfast. This idea paid off. They played as a team and worked their way to the finals by unleashing a remarkable comeback from a 2-0 deficit to a victory of 5-2 in a penalty kick shootout. With only one sub, along with the sweltering heat, this was quite an accomplishment!! The friendships and memories with each other, as well as with some of the international players, will last a lifetime. We are blessed to be a part of an outstanding club and to have had such an incredible international experience.

NEW PROGRAMS FOR WEST WISCONSIN RUSH IN YEAR 3! 2017 BROUGHT NEW PROGRAMS FOR THE RUSH WISCONSIN WEST SOCCER CLUB AS IT CONTINUES TO GROW. While Rush Wisconsin West continues to see growth in its membership for the 2017-2018 season, the club has also been busy expanding their programming options. In their inaugural year (2015) the club was limited to Academy and Competitive programming only. Since then, Rush Wisconsin West has launched a recreational program serving hundreds of U4-U14 players. The recreational program has allowed the club to serve more players in the community and bring the value of Rush to more families! In the spring of 2017, the club also launched two outreach programs; The Boys and Girls Club (BGC) Program and the Thunder TOPSoccer program. The BGC Program is providing an opportunity for kids to play soccer who previously were not afforded the opportunity. The BGC players were welcomed to the Rush Family and integrated with the club’s recreational and competitive players. “The launch of our Thunder TOPSoccer program was a success thanks to a dedicated committee of volunteers and coaches. Our players actively participated in the program as buddies and created a safe and fun environment for the 25 Thunder TOPSoccer players,” said Rush Wisconsin West President Scott Thesing. Rush Wisconsin West is looking forward to continuing and growing all of their programs in the 2017-2018 season. Please visit rushwiwest.com for more information regarding all programming options.

So Cal Rush

THE 6 RUSHKETEERS THANK YOU SARAH, FAYTH, SAYDI, COURTNEY, VIVIANNA, AND LILLY FOR BELIEVING IN RUSH AND ALLOWING US TO HELP PREPARE YOU LADIES FOR ADULTHOOD.

Having been faced with the challenges of playing many games with 7 to 9 players, losing more games than winning them, and most never winning a tournament, there is a flip side. They have had great opportunities playing on other Rush teams, a supportive Rush family, and most of all have experienced and lived by Rush values along the way.

“We believe that all players should be afforded an equal opportunity to explore their potential and participate in challenging circumstances that will yield positive outcomes. These words from the Rush Mission Statement hold true to the 6 G99 girls of So Cal Rush that held on to the end.

Upon speaking to these girls as they venture onto new journeys in their lives, we are proud to say that they exude everything the Rush Mission Statement exclaims. Some of these girls will go on to play in college but they all have expressed they have gained more from their Rush family than just soccer. The Rush Way coupled with all their Rush experiences have helped them prepare for everything the world will throw their way.

These 6 Rush girls have always believed in the Rush Way. As So Cal Rush Club teaches the Rush Way, a way that continuously struggles to prove its worth in the High Desert, these 6 girls have given us faith that the Rush Way exists and continues to grow in an environment where the nut is hardest to crack.

38

The club is thankful for Sarah, Saydi, Fayth, Courtnety, Viviana, and Liliy for being the perfect Rush role models and helping promote the belief and growth of the Rush Way in the High Desert. Best of luck girls: from your Rush Family.

RUSH FEST, A NEW EXPERIENCE! THESE FIRST FEW YEARS WITH RUSH HAS PRODUCED SEVERAL AMAZING EXPERIENCES FOR SOME OF OUR PLAYERS, FAMILIES, AND COACHES. THIS YEAR WE HAD TWO FAMILIES EXPERIENCE RUSH FEST FOR THE FIRST TIME FOR SWVA RUSH. Since joining the Rush family, some of our players and parents have been places that they never dreamed about going. This year was a first for our club as we sent two players to Rush Fest. Davis Reitzel and Kirsten Woodyard boarded a plane and headed across the country to join many other players at our annual Rush Fest. It took a long time to get there but when it was all said and done, both players enjoyed their time to the fullest. Because they were the lone members of our club, they had to join the VA Rush teams for the events and games. Both players said that VA Rush

welcomed them in with open arms and really made them feel like they were part of their program as well. Kirsten said that meeting all the other Rush players was one of her highpoints. She enjoyed spending time with players from all over the USA. Jason (Kirstens Father & current Rush assistant coach) thought the event was really well organized and it showed what power the Rush nation has. He also enjoyed the beautiful country that he was able to view while on the trip. While they are sad they won’t be able to go again, both Davis and Kirsten encourage all Rush players that are within the age limits to attend Rush Fest. It is an amazing event that brings together Rush players from all across the nation. Whether it’s Rush Fest, Rush Select, guest playing with other clubs, REACH, or one of the many other opportunities that Rush offers, this shows why Rush Soccer Club is one of the best soccer clubs in the world.

Taos Rush

MEET RICKY NICHOLS, TAOS RUSH COYOTE IN THIS EDITION WE ARE SPOTLIGHTING A PLAYER ON THE LONGEST RUNNING COMPETITIVE TEAM IN TAOS RUSH, THE TAOS RUSH COYOTES 02’ BOYS. Meet Ricky Nichols, goalie and center back for the Taos Rush Coyotes. His team, the Coyotes, is the only competitive team from Taos currently playing in Albuquerque’s Duke City League. Under the direction of coach Ben van Willigen and assistant coach Rich Nichols, who is also Ricky’s dad, the Coyotes have been playing together for about 6 years. Ricky has been with the team from the beginning. When he is not playing soccer, Ricky is busy with a variety of activities including mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding, and most other sports involving a ball, such as baseball, basketball and football. This summer, he and some of his teammates stayed fit by scampering up to Wheeler Peak, the highest peak in New Mexico. At an elevation of 13,161 feet, Wheeler is quite a hike, complete with scree fields, mountain sheep, and marmots. But, Ricky and his friends make it look easy, often running up and down trails that make others stagger. As summer winds to an end, and school begins, Ricky will start Taos High as a freshman. He plans to play for the Taos Tiger soccer team this fall. In the spring, he will be back to the Coyotes. Ricky says his favorite pregame meal is a bacon and egg sandwich on a bagel. He has to eat it early because in order to play, he and his teammates must make the long drive to Albuquerque. For some it is a 6 hour round trip. It is a true testament to the dedication of Ricky and his team. However, with all that time in the car, Ricky has a unique opportunity to take up yet another activity in his busy life: crochet.

VIRGINIA RUSH KEEPING BUSY WITH SUMMER EVENTS VIRGINIA RUSH HAS BEEN BUSY WITH TEAMS, PLAYERS, AND COACHES PARTICIPATING IN DIFFERENT EVENTS: RUSHFEST, RUSH SUMMIT, RUSH SELECT, PRESIDENT’S CUP, NPL, ETC. WE ARE SUPER PROUD OF OUR PLAYERS AND THEIR DEDICATION!

In July, Coaches Danny, Matt, Chris P. and Jen left for Colorado Springs for the annual Rush Summit and a week of coaching education. The following week, our Rush Fest kids and coaches invaded Colorado Springs for Rush Fest for soccer, memories, and meeting Rush kids from all over the country and world. Our 2001G, 2000B, and 2002B teams all headed out for the 2017 NPL Finals at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana. At the same time, our 2004G team left for Auburndale, Florida for President’s Cup Nationals - where they came in 3rd overall! AWESOME.

We kicked off summer in June with three teams (U13G, U17G and U17B) all heading to West Virginia to compete in the President’s Cup Region I Regionals. All teams played great, with the U17B and U13G making the finals & U13G moving on to Nationals. We also had two players, Megan Spillane and Karleigh Minson, along with Coach Chris P., join the Rush Select 2003 Girls in Costa Rica for a week of soccer, excursions, and new friendships. Our U14 girls and U16 boys headed to Winston-Salem, NC for the U.S. Club Soccer National Cup XVI Southeast Regionals.

On top of all the great soccer all the players have been a part of, they have seen Glaciers, NFL Stadium Tours, Professional Soccer Games, and visited yet more areas of the U.S. to add to their list of life experiences - all thanks to their commitments to soccer, specifically, Rush Soccer. As we wind down from all the summer travel, we are holding team meetings for Fall 2017, ordering new uniforms, and getting ready to start all over again, in hopes that next summer will once again be full of various Regional and National Events and more unforgettable memories!

Washington Rush

RUSH ADDS EXTRA SPORTS PERFORMANCE TRAINING WASHINGTON RUSH HAS TEAMED UP WITH IRG SPORTS PERFORMANCE PROFESSIONALS TO ADD ANOTHER AVENUE FOR RUSH ATHLETES TO MAXIMIZE THEIR POTENTIAL AND ATHLETIC DEVELOPMENT. Head technical director Ben Somoza wanted to give the kids within the Rush program another opportunity to excel in the game of soccer. He recently sat down to meet with Jordan James, the head of IRG, a sports performance clinic, to talk about their programs. It would turn out be a perfect fit. IRG specializes in both age and developmentally based programs and teaching protocols to ensure athletes are training at correct levels with an emphasis on proper technique. Jordan James has over 7 years of professional soccer playing experience and is a certified strength and conditioning coach. Ben Somoza comments, “We want to provide our athletes with all the resources to become the best soccer players they

42

can be and teach them the importance of fitness and injury prevention in their life.” The summer program took place over the course of 8 weeks and was instructed by 3 certified specialists. It will be implemented throughout the soccer calendar year and will be a consistent piece to the Rush program. Somoza adds, “It’s important they learn the proper technique and fundamental movement patterns needed for motor skill development.” The sessions typically last one hour for each age group and are scheduled outside of team training. In each of the sessions, the kids go through a dynamic warm up that focuses on the flexibility, mobility, and injury prevention. Next, they work on plyometrics exercises to help athletes bridge their strength and power into usable qualities on the field. In the latter part of the training, they get agility training to create efficient movement patterns and linear speed development that is specific to the acceleration of a soccer player. www.irgpt.com/therapy/sports-performance
