We are trying to create a face-to-face journey with the silt in the reservoir. We hope that this journey will enable the public to understand the various problems caused by the siltation of the reservoir, and we hope that after the trip, the public can implement the concept of active dredging in their daily lives. Then contribute to the future of Taiwan Reservoir.
DISCOVER REVERSAL RETHINK
70% of Taiwan's water comes from typhoons and plum rain. The average annual rainfall is about 2,000 millimeters, 2.6 times the global average rainfall. It is reasonable to say that there is no water shortage, but Taiwan is ranked 18th in the water-scarce country. And we want to know why?
Because of the steep slopes, concentrative rain, and short rivers, most rainwater quickly flows into the ocean. Therefore, the annual water resource allocation per capita in Taiwan is only one-sixth of the global average. According to the current world standard of available water, Taiwan is a water-scarce country.
4
WUSHE RESERVOIR Interdocution \ \ \
Taiwan has to face a long-term water shortage prob-
lem because of its long and narrow terrain, making it difficult to store water. Because of siltation in reservoirs, it is more difficult to hold water. Many reservoirs are on the verge of being abandoned. We designed a research park using modified silt, enabling visitors to contact and experience silt at three different distances from the reservoir. Through discovery, change to rethink, let viewers understand the value and use of silt, then practice the benefits of dredging by the whole people.

“ Difficulty in dredging ”
\ \ \
Dredging of former slit is too slow, but new silt comes too fast. Take the Shimen reservoir as an example. The amount of siltation is about 100 million cubic meters. To clear 2,000 tons per day is already a big challenge. Even if it still needs to take about 136 years to complete the cleanup at this rate. The silt has nowhere to go. Silt is not as valuable as gravel, and its economic benefits are meager. The silt from Shihmen Reservoir was used as material for land reclamation in Taipei Port, but now the first phase of the Taipei Port has been completed. So the silt has nowhere to go.
7
SILT'S FUTURITY
Modification Silt
\ \ \ The silt was always regarded as a useless and valueless item in the past. Still, in recent years, through the research of domestic and foreign teams, it has become one of the adorn materials for interior and outdoor even for building structures. It has become a significant material in the cultural and creative industry.
8
Material Application Material development We use the extension material of the reservoir silt - LOTOS, plus different elements to develop diverse materials with other characteristics and apply them into our design, hoping to capacitate visitors to see the possibility of the reservoir silt in
\ \ \
this research park. We can practice the ideal of dredging by the whole people through use by the public.
LOTOS The R&D team of the Structural Materials Laboratory of National Cheng Kung University invented "Reservoir Sludge Modification Technology" and made LOTOS; since 2008, it has moved from academia to the architecture industry and became a suitable material it has been widely applied in Taiwan.

SITE ANALYSIS
Modification Silt
\ \ \ Located in Nantou County, it is under the management of Taiwan Power Company. The surrounding scenery is elegant and beautiful Because of located between the Central Mountain Range. The on-site siltation of the Wushe reservoir is far more severe than we thought. It is worrying that although there are many tourists, almost all of them will go straight to the nearby attractions like Qingjing Farm. Still, only a few stay in Wushe to experience the beauty of the natural environment, let alone care about the problem of siltation in the reservoir.

After experiencing the visual impact of siltation, we hope that the viewer can realize that this tragedy is reversible at point B. Many products with economic value have been created through sludge modification technology. No matter the structure or decoration materials, even the creative arts and crafts, they are all within reach of application so modified silt. This promotion reverses the value of N

SILT
In the final stage of this journey, we hope to elevate the visual experience to the next level. We are taking the actual trajectory of annual siltation as the central axis of the display. As if being at the junction of the river and the silt in this site. In this structure, we also use metaphors to constantly remind the viewer of the painful price we paid due to reservoir siltation. At the end of the journey, two different directions will bring out the mood of success and failure by contrasting the viewing of two exits.

ISSUE
Fo r e i g n p o p u l a t i o n
\ \ The current issue of social class inequality, from social prestige to economic, cultural capital, etc., I found that transnational marriages and families are in the disadvantaged group of the society, under the conditions of the race, education, and socioeconomic status, causing them to be marginalized in society. Because most foreign spouses come to Taiwan, they are generally married to men with low incomes or inadequate social conditions, which turned out to be the beginning of a tragedy. The most crucial problem foreign spouses will encounter is that their language is different from Taiwanese. Their inability to communicate with their spouses and families leads to marital problems and makes difficulties in their children's self-identification. Economic conditions and one's ability cause difficulties in starting a business or finding employment.

Thinking about the relationship between the site “Zhongli” and foreign spouses, Taoyuan has the most significant number of foreign immigrants in Taiwan. Zhongli is the principal population gathering place. These foreign immigrants generally make a wrong impression on the public. Therefore, we take this as the starting point, hoping to dilute

ABOUT DESIGN Concept
CONCEPT The foreign spouse came to Taiwan, like a drop of water falling into the pool like ripples make fluctuations

in Taiwanese culture.
With the concept of ripples, multiple concentric circles are placed in the space, take the area of different functions as the center of the ring, and spread outward. And break the intersection of concentric circles, put in communication space, and let foreign spouses with different natures or cultures communicate here. We provide space for foreign spouses in Southeast
Asia through joint workshops or courses, regular cultural fusion activities, catering experience, spread Southeast Asian culture on the land of Taiwan. In addition, we also provide a lot of space for them to counsel legal assistance or have psychological counseling, etc. To make up for the governmentʼs inadequate policies for foreigners.
34
Southeast Asia has a culture seated on the floor. They think that they can be closer to the land. But this culture is incomprehensible in Taiwan. We use the traditional stilted houses in Southeast Asia and set them in the space after transformation. The rest area in the center allows them to take a break more comfortably.

JOURNEY THROUGH THE COURTYARD Office Design
Use modern methods to challenge the traditional boundaries of offic e a r r e n g e me n t .

Break the single layer space
The concept is inspired by the traditional Shanghai courtyard style, using conventional blue bricks as the main design element, transforming into a new style to create an atmosphere of new and old fusion.
48
Traditional Chinese Courtyard The courtyard is a intermediary to connecting spaces
Built-In the "court" into the building.
Open the floor above the "court"
Create communication between the two layers.
Meet in the“ Courtyard ” Traditonal
Traditional houses use “courtyards” to connect different living spaces provide ample outdoor space for activities. It is a vital space to enhance internal cohesion within the family.
Modern
We use “courtyards” to break the barriers between the upper and lower floors and create a large area for communication, allowing employees to rest together, have the opportunity to talk, regain everyone’s interaction in the company, and improve the relationship between employees.
Layer
The courtyard makes the space more hierarchical, frames the skylight and landscape into the building, and integrates the landscape into the architecture. Create an overlap between the inside and the outside.
49
Pass through the“ Old and New ” Staircase design
The main meeting room is designed on the upper floor, deliberately allowing guests to experience stroll in corridors and pass through the stairs.
Hidden the stairs in the corridor, turning from the blue brick building into the corridor, the metal brick walls on both sides will spin while people pass through the stairs and interact with people.
Shuttle back and forth The agile and transparent stairs form a temperamental contrast compared to the heavy and steady blue buildings. Combining interactive technology with the circulation of the upper and lower floors creates an experience of alternating between the old and the new.
50
Tour in the“ Corridor”
Shared
Subvert the traditional office design, make the work area and meeting space not rely on glass curtains, use the "corridor" to realize the connection, set the public area on the periphery, and share the outdoor scenery with employees.
Private
The four meeting rooms are designed as four independent volume units and are bordered by wooden beams and blue bricks. All meeting room entrances are hidden from the central circulation. Some windows on the wall make the meeting room remains translucent, which maximizes the openness and extroversion of the office space while retaining the necessary privacy.
51
Stacking the“ Bricks ”
Small scale
Dividing cabinet according to the ratio of blue bricks (6×24×10cm) and stacked staggered. .
Medium scale
The office areas are arranged in a staggered arrangement to connect the teams and maintain their independence.
Large scale
Stack large spaces such as meeting rooms and display rooms into a whole, open holes between the cracks, create a fun experience through interaction between inside to outside.
