Annual Report 2022-23
The Gazette Charities Foundation-El Pomar Foundation Empty Stocking Fund provides resources for local health and human service agencies in the Pikes Peak region on the front lines of helping people in crisis and assisting others in attaining self-suf ciency. Over the past 39 years, the Fund has raised more than $25 million. Administrative costs are generously covered by The Anschutz Foundation, El Pomar Foundation, Gazette Charities Foundation, The Gazette, Pikes Peak Community Foundation and Add Staff, so 100% of every donation goes directly to our partner agencies.
Every dollar donated to the Empty Stocking Fund grows up to 45% through matching grants.

The Red Cross provides lodging, food, clothing and direct financial assistance for bills, medication and other basic necessities. Also providing hope, care and comfort to survivors of natural disasters, with the help of Empty Stocking Fund dollars.
The partnership between Empty Stocking Fund and Care and Share has been tremendously impactful. Empty Stocking Fund dollars have provided the equivalent of over 930,000 meals and served an estimated 341,852 neighbors in need.

Empty Stocking Fund dollars allow Catholic Charities to continue to serve the most vulnerable individuals and families in our community with dignity and respect. Catholic Charities works to prevent homelessness for families and individuals in our community.
With the generous help of the Empty Stocking Fund, CPCD has been able to offer quality medical, dental, behavioral health, and family support services to over 1,500 children in its early childhood classrooms. Empty Stocking Fund dollars also help CPCD offer a Two Generation Program where parents can work toward education and employment goals.

Empty Stocking Fund dollars help Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains provide support, guidance, and resources to children and families in the Pikes Peak region. From helping youth and teens experiencing foster care find a safe place to land and learn to transition to independence, to offering families a safe, nurturing place for their children at their KPC Respite Center, LFSRM’s goal is to work with people in our community who need support to thrive.
The mission of Mercy’s Gate is to offer people in crisis relief, the hope of the Gospel and a vision for restoration. Thanks to the partnership with Empty Stocking Fund in 2022, Mercy’s Gate was able to provide services for over 29,600 individuals and families, a well as rent/mortgage assistance impacting 1,426 people.

The Empty Stocking Fund allowed Mt. Carmel to increase services this year. Mt. Carmel has added Next Chapter to work with the Behavior Health team to prevent veteran suicides. Mt. Carmel has also been named the Veteran Business Outreach Center for the state of Colorado. This will allow transitioning military and veterans training opportunities to own their own business. Mt. Carmel touches over one hundred families every other Friday with its food bank. Also, many transitioning military, veterans, and their families seek out the Transition and Employment team for assistance with resume writing, interview techniques, and job placement.
Empty Stocking Fund dollars have helped NAMI complete the transition into an organization that can help individuals and families in both in-person and virtual settings. In 2022, NAMI welcomed hundreds of people to a half dozen reoccurring support groups; hosted three types of multi-week educational classes; and helped deliver presentations to groups inside and outside of mental health settings, all at no cost to them.

The Empty Stocking Fund h as helped Partners in Housing provide transitional housing and the resources and knowledge to obtain self-suffi ciency and overcome homelessness to 130 families annually.
Peak Vista Community Health Centers is proud to remove barriers to care for the most vulnerable residents of the Pikes Peak region in partnership with the Empty Stocking Fund (ESF). Generous ESF donations support the Compassionate Care Fund, through which we serve our neediest patients, including those experiencing poverty, the unhoused, senior citizens, the uninsured, people with mental health issues, the unemployed or underemployed, people with transportation issues, and those with disabilities. Last year, ESF made it possible for 83 patients to receive $136,454 of specialty consultations, procedures, or needed therapies diagnostic processes.

The Empty Stocking Fund dollars have helped Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care support more than 5,000 family members in both hospice and palliative care programs. Donations also support charity care for patients without insurance, complementary therapies like Touch or Pet Therapy, grief support and education programs to foster new ways of thinking about life and death.
The full amount of Empty Stocking Fund dollars allowed THE PLACE to bring all of their programs and services to a full shelter of youth (20) for an entire month. The Place serves upwards of 500 youth a year and provides over 1,500 meals to teens experiencing homelessness.

$250 provides a parent an opportunity to participate in an eight-week session of Positive Solutions for Families, which helps parents feel more prepared to handle even some of the most challenging behaviors they may encounter
TRE serves children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and its Power in Parenting program gives parents of children with autism tools to help their children engage with the world around them. The evidence-based program not only provides strategies to support their children but also helps strengthen the social-emotional health of the entire family.
Every year, children who are victims of sexual assault or physical abuse, or who are witnesses to domestic violence, homicide, and other violent crimes come to Safe Passage for critical forensic and healing services. The non-offending caregivers of the child victims also receive services at Safe Passage. Safe Passage coordinates the responses of partners in the law enforcement, medical, mental health, social services, and legal fields.

Last year, The Salvation Army provided food, shelter, and other basic needs to 1 in every 15 people living in El Paso County! Every day, lives are being changed — like Gabria’s — struggling to care for her toddler, made guardian for her 2 young brothers and caretaker for her grandmother. The Salvation Army gave this young mom health with food for her family, help to keep her utilities on, and hope with other love and assistance she needed.

Tri-Lakes Cares offers a wide range of services designed to help those in need. This includes The Market, Snack Pack and holiday food programs, housing and utilities assistance, youth enrichment programs, the Neighborhood Nurse Center in partnership with Penrose St. Francis, and so much more. Empty Stocking Fund dollars are used to support many facets of these services.

Thanks to Empty Stocking Fund, Westside CARES redoubled its efforts to meet people in need where they are, as they are, with both preventative and remedial programs. With your help, we stabalized over 600 families with rent/utility subsidies, offered healthcare services to over 200 neighbors and provided healthy four-day food baskets to more than 9,000 people in the region.
The Empty Stocking Fund allowed the YMCA to support the community in ways they never would have dreamed. The Y’s COVID-19 response initiatives focus on proactive outreach to older adults and access to childcare for essential personnel in our community.
