What’s the first thing a bride should know about visiting a bridal shop?

That they need to come early due to all the supply issues — 10 months in advance of the big day. That being said, we have tons of dresses on the floor. I do that purposefully to ensure we can help brides get something they love right away. I’ve also become a distributor for specific lines that I know will deliver quickly in case something happens at another shop and the bride is in critical mode. We also choose designers who manufacture in different places so we can avoid delays and ensure our shipping rates are well within the window for fittings.

Q: A:

What’s the second thing she should know?

At Angela’s shop, the bride can bring up to three people. She can also book a premier appointment to include more. Finally, private appointments close the shop, and she can basically have a party!

Angela said the team will have the trends she wants in stock. We visit Chicago bridal shows twice a year (at least) so whatever she wants — highlow; convertible dresses; minis; even gorgeous black lace gowns — we can order them because we have a great relationship with our suppliers.

What’s new for bridesmaids, groomsmen, and flower girls?

We’ve seen brides tell bridesmaids, “Hey, this is my color palette. Buy what makes you feel comfortable in this or that color.” We do have classic dresses here for every figure in all the colors of the rainbow so it’s easy to pick if a bride doesn’t really know what styles she likes. Groomsmen are still wearing navy blue suits and we’re seeing larger weddings again, so tuxedos are back in fashion for those. As far as flower girls or ring bearers, that’s all over the place but more formal is coming back for the larger wedding parties.

Q: A:

How long will it take for my first appointment?

Budget for at least an hour and a half. And don’t feel overwhelmed that you must pick during that time frame.

We like to be the hero — we really make sure you take your time and get exactly what you want. Whether that takes one or however many appointments.

Q:

Will a bridal shop be able to suggest dresses for my body type or match what I’ve seen in magazines?

Absolutely, if you’re at a good establishment. We encourage brides to not visit too many shops and get confused. That’s not self-serving at all — too many times brides feel like they must go everywhere and see everything. That just adds undue stress to what should be an exciting time.

Maybe buy a few bridal magazines and bring pictures for our staff — we train them explicitly on trends and styles for different body types. I make sure the stylists who work here are up for whatever you need — and full of great ideas if you’re stumped on any aspect of your wedding dress or any other questions. Come with questions about any aspect of the wedding, really.

Chances are we’ve seen something that will help you figure out what to do.
