In their enduring commitment to support a better life for kids with neuromuscular diseases, ERA Shields is eagerly looking forward to their 8th Annual Banquet and Art Show at the Pikes Peak Center in downtown Colorado Springs on Friday, September 12. Last year’s fundraiser was an upgraded version from past years, and successfully raised in
excess of $46,000. ERA Shields has high hopes that this the 2014 fundraiser will surpass last years. ERA Franchise Systems, Inc. has been a faithful advocate for the Muscular Dystrophy Association since 1977, and hometown franchise ERA Shields is proud to extend these efforts into the Pikes Peak region. MDA, the world’s leading nonprofit health agency providing
health care services and support to MDA families, is devoted to finding treatments and cures for a number of neuromuscular diseases including muscular dystrophy and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Diesease). donated to the cause. “Incorporating some exciting changes last year sparked compelling interest and support from our local community,” said Eric Estrada, Director of Business Development and Marketing for ERA Shields Real Estate. ERA Shields has gratefully watched the art show grow in numbers, as well as supporters over the years and is delighted to note that last year’s fundraiser was the largest so far. For 2014, the art show and banquet will be hosted for the second time downtown at the Pikes Peak Center and has been improved yet again. “This year we are happy to note that the art show has been expanded and will be covering the foyer as well as the second level,” Estrada said. “A really wonderful variety of artwork will be on display,” continued Estrada. “From paintings to pottery, jewelry, photography and more, from a broad selection of artists.” In addition to the stunning works of art and remarkable banquet, this year’s event offers live entertainment from a local jazz band as well as a special guest grand pianist from ERA Shields’ own family. Not only do attendees have a terrific opportunity to consider a variety of
stunning local artwork, the artists benefit from the significant chance to promote themselves. During the evening, live and silent auctions will feature a number of unique items graciously donated by the artists and the artists have also agreed to contribute a portion of their sales that night to the fundraiser. One of last year’s most popular activities was the wine pull. “Over 200 bottles of wine were contributed by local wine vendors and wineries,” said Estrada. “Some of it was from Colorado Springs, and we also had some from Vail, Breckenridge, and Aspen.” Each bottle of wine in last year’s fundraiser was valued at $20 or more, including a bottle of Dom Perignon that appraised between $400 and $600. “The wine pull sold out that evening,” said Estrada. “I’m sure it will be just as popular for our 2014 event.” Beyond a doubt, the highlight of the evening every year is the local families who have been touched by MDA and come to share their personal stories. “Last year two families joined us,” said Estrada, “and they were so positive and driven in overcoming their challenges, it was truly inspiring.” Along with healthcare services and support, the funds raised by ERA
Shields provide a valuable opportunity to send local kids to the annual MDA Summer Camp in Empire Colorado. This camp extends the prospect for hope and enjoyment, while also offering a welcoming respite to the parents and families, who are the standard caregivers for the deserving youngsters 24/7, throughout the year. Due to an expected rise in attendance this year, ERA is hoping to increase the number of wine bottles available for the wine pull, and are gratefully welcoming donations from local wineries or wine vendors.
