RE/MAX Properties, Inc. third annual Power Up Symposium took place Thursday October 27, 2016 at the beautiful Broadmoor Resort. Agents were invited to attend a day of inspirational and motivational workshops
and presentations from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and enjoy a networking reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event attracted more than 200 agents and their assistants, who do great work throughout the Pikes Peak Region.
The event is an incredibly enriching experience for all who attend, with top industry names sharing their knowledge, expertise and mastery in the field. Realtors are afforded the opportunity to set aside one full day to hone their craft

He spoke about “Getting the Listing 94% of the Time — Prelisting, Listing Presentation, Making the Sale.” Nathan has sold more than $200 million in residential real estate sales and is an active realtor in the Washington D.C. Metro area and surrounding counties. He has won numerous prestigious awards internationally and regionally and is committed to knowledge, service and professionalism. The next presenter of the day was Keith Roy, the team leader of Keith
Roy and Associates at RE/MAX Select Realty in Vancouver. He spoke for an hour and a half about “Sales Mastery and Negotiation Power Skills.” For nearly a decade, Keith has been giving presentations and training realtors throughout Canada, United States and Europe, and has ranked on the top five percent of Vancouver realtors for the past five years. Additionally, in 2002 and 2012, he was awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for community service. Following a delicious lunch catered by The Broadmoor, The event then broke into shorter “Breakout Sessions” around the topics of “Apps You Must Use — Be More Efficient, Close More Deals,” “How to Grow a Team,” and “Your Most Valuable Business Asset
— Your Sphere of Influence.” RE/ MAX Properties, Inc. is proud to hold this event on an annual basis for the community, and has been a leader in real estate for more than 30 years; maintaining their status as number one in the industry since 1989. The closing speaker of the evening was Maura Neill, ABR, CRS, CDPE, e-PRO, MRP, MA, who is an active agent with RE/MAX Around Atlanta. As a social media and technology whiz and active real estate speaker and instructor, she gave a presentation entitled “Put Your Best Foot Forward — Online Customer Service.” She hit upon
how realtors can build their business through social media, customer service and client retention. Maura is a past speaker for NAR’s “Rethink the Future” project, is a NAR-approved e-PRO instructor and is the lead instructor for NAR’s Military Relocation Professional certification program. She considers education an important aspect of her role as a realtor. All of the real estate agents in attendance then had a chance to network and build community at the reception and cocktail party, gaining more insight and linking with some of the most brilliant minds in real estate. Energy-saving concrete walls are built to weather any storm METRO SERVICES The increased frequency of hurricane-force winds, tornados, spontaneous fire, flooding and drought across the United States is motivating the home-construction industry to speak up. More reliable structures can already be built due to the decadelong advancements in “green” technology. In particular, an innovation known as the insulated concrete form, or ICF, is available to replace standard wood framing. ICF walls are a popular energysaving option and now this concrete system is in demand for its strength, durability and safety as well.
“Safety is always a good reason to build a stronger, more wind- and fire-resistant home,” says Todd Blyth at Nudura, a leading name in the supply of insulated concrete forms. “Significant energy savings is another. With a solid, reinforced concrete envelope instead of wood, your energy bills can be reduced up to 70 percent.” As demonstrated year after year, the impact-resistance of ICF buildings protects their occupants from storm winds up to 250 miles per hour. It is also more durable during floods, and the fire resistance of ICF buildings is up to four hours.
“At the construction site, the Nudura concrete forms interlock, like Lego, to create one super strong wall with concrete thicknesses ranging from four to 12 inches,” Blyth continues. “By combining two panels of thick expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam with the structural strength and thermal mass of concrete, the walls can provide an efficiency rating as high as R-50, compared to an average R-20 in wood structures. You get a far stronger, lower-cost home that is more comfortable, too.”
OCCUPANT FRIENDLY In a standard wood-framed home,
the outside cold easily travels through the walls, causing thermal bridging and creating uncomfortable chilly spots in various rooms. Alternatively, walls built with a solid concrete core address and prevent thermal bridging to deliver even temperatures throughout the house. “Reinforced concrete is also an effective sound barrier,” Blyth explains. “It will dampen vibrations from outside noise, such as the drone of traffic. Sound-proofing is an additional benefit of the ICF system and so is the incremental value of the home. When you put a house on the market that is stronger, safer and
less costly to heat, cool and repair, you can certainly ask a premium price.” Visual beauty inside and out is also a top priority, homeowners say. With concrete at the core, you can finish it with attractive brick, or with stone, stucco, wood siding and more, says Blyth. Inside, the builder can easily achieve beautiful architectural shapes like arches, skylights, bay windows and doors. Average US 30-year mortgage rate eases to 3.47 percent BY THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Long-term U.S. mortgage rates declined this week, moving closer to historically low levels. Mortgage giant Freddie Mac said Thursday the average for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage eased to 3.47 percent from 3.52 percent last week. The benchmark rate is down from 3.76 percent a year ago and close to its all-time low of 3.31 percent in November 2012. The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage, popular with homeowners who are refinancing, ticked down to 2.78 percent from 2.79 percent. The low rates have continued to lure buyers into the market. Data issued Thursday by the National Association of Realtors showed that more people signed contracts to buy homes in September, an increase that likely points to rising sales in the closing months of the year. The Realtors’ seasonally-adjusted pending
home sales index rose 1.5 percent last month to 110. Pending sales contracts are a barometer of future purchases. A sale is typically completed a month or two after a contract is signed. To calculate average mortgage rates, Freddie Mac surveys lenders across the country at the beginning of each week. The average doesn’t include extra fees, known as points, which most borrowers must pay to get the lowest rates. One point equals one percent of the loan amount. The average fee for a 30-year mortgage rose to 0.6 point from 0.5 point last week. The fee for a 15-year loan was unchanged at 0.5 point. Rates on adjustable five-year mortgages averaged 2.84 percent, down from 2.85 percent last week. The fee held steady at 0.4 point.
