Once you’ve started the househunting process, there are a significant number of factors on your to-do list, so it’s easy to lose sight of some deal breakers that can easily catch you off guard. Even things as simple as Ignoring overdue fees can impact your credit score and your ability to qualify for a home loan. Even though a minimal
overdue fee doesn’t seem like anything to worry about, an unpaid fine reported to the credit bureaus will cause your credit to suffer. Check your credit report regularly for errors or negative marks to avoid a debacle. 2. Maybe you have a few more credit cards than you need and think it’s time to close some down before your credit is checked. Closing multiple accounts can negatively affect your credit. One of the key components of your credit score is the age of open accounts, and lowering your credit utilization rates can be another credit
score killer. 3. Underestimating the true cost of your monthly mortgage payment. Don’t forget about HOA fees, maintenance costs, PMI, and other costs.
