ONE LIGHT LUXURY IN DOWNTOWN KC

Cordish Companies’ new luxury residence incorporates Jones Pool in amenities package
“That which we call a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet,” claims Shakespeare. Well, if that is in fact the case, the same cannot be said about apartments. One Light Luxury Apartments are going to be sharing the skyline this summer and name or not, there is nothing like this in Kansas City. With 307 rooms spanning 25 floors, the OneLight building at 1251 Main St. is currently offering resident activities monthly such as test driving the new Aston Martin. As for move in dates the current plans are to have 15 floors filled by November with the other 10 opening throughout December and January. Prior to that, in July the Jones pool will be open. Not in the fashion most have grown accustomed, however.
“It is no longer public, says Jen DeMeyer, One Light Leasing Agent. It may no longer be a public party, but Community Manager Marnie Sauls and DeMeyer both confirmed that there will still be many of the same features that made the Jones well known. Including the swim-up bar and entertainment such as live music poolside for residents and members. “We will have events like that, but we are not going to keep it open until 2.am.,” laughs DeMeyer. “It will be a residential 10 a clock kind of thing.” If you are already nestled in down town and still want to enjoy some of One Light’s top-shelf amenities that is a definite option according to Sauls and DeMeyer. Non-residents can by a gym membership which allows full access to the 35,000sqft fitness facility along with the Jones
Pool and all of its perks, say the two. Since the property is owned by the Cordish Companies you can, and will, rest assured that every possible luxury will be afforded to those who call One Light home. For starters there are two onsite dog parks, grocery store, media center, business center, the aforementioned pool, google fiber and a killer view in every room. “Floor-to-ceiling windows, it’s all about the light,” says Sauls. While most apartments use the inner part of the building for rooms to add resident space, One Light chose to add amenities and ensure every resident will have something pretty to look at. “It opens up the space, you will have panoramic views of the city. There is truly not a bad apartment in the building, you kind of have the city opened up to you.”
BUSINESS
PEOPLE PACKAGING BY LINDA DAVIS With the careful use of an X-Acto knife and glue, he was good to go. The next day when she hopped into the car, he proudly announced he bought her favorite treat and handed her the box. She said “thanks” and through it in the back seat for later. With some convincing, she opened the box and prize with half-hearted focus. When she opened the prize, she said, “Oh, it’s just a stupid ring!” My brother’s approach may have been creative, but it didn’t play out at all like he’d imagined it in his head. No doubt had he handed her a small velvet ring box, things would have gone a little different. I’ve observed that the way some people dress, works a little like the Cracker Jacks box. There’s nothing wrong with it, but it doesn’t say “Stop and take notice. There is something valuable here”. Being unnoticed isn’t
lucrative to your career. It isn’t about being the most stylish, or the best looking. It is about creating confidence and competence. If you possess these two traits, you create trustworthiness amongst the people you interact with. Quality, proper tailoring and grooming add up. Colors can be flattering and add impact, or they can overpower or dull you. Your best look will be both appropriate and authentic. The outsides should communicate who you are in way that is positive and effective to your goals. There are those who think it doesn’t matter. They say, “no one cares what I wear”, and the may be right. People often don’t care, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t affected by it. Decisions to hire, promote or buy are made based on perceptions. It’s not always about how dressed up you are as much as how much your dress can move you
Years ago, my older brother decided it would be clever to propose to his girlfriend by putting the ring inside the prize package inside a Cracker Jack box.
to wear you want to go. Don’t forget, you believe what you see in the mirror too. Reflecting the right image boost your self-confidence and makes you feel like a success. Success breeds success. In fact, research tells us that early success leads to more success, so even when you are starting out, it pays to invest in your image. When you feel like a fortune, you’re more likely to make one! So take a moment and consider the question. Is your outer “packaging” working for you? Will your image help your career play out in the way you’d like to picture it, or is it going leave you in the backseat next to the Cracker Jacks?

KEEPING KANSAS CITY
DAPPER FROM THE WEST BOTTOMS
writer: Tyler Conover photography: bruce Change does not often come easy. Following a routine makes everything simpler. Simple gets boring, so change the routine by adding something truly timeless to your attire. A wise first step to this process would be to find your way to Houndstooth, located at 507 Walnut St. in Kansas City’s River Market. Fast fashion is not what Houndstooth owner, Jeff Covitz, has in mind when you walk in to his shop. He works in classical menswear, if you want a suit bespoke from head-to-toe with the finest textures available then Houndstooth has you covered. If you
want an excellent fitting suit off the rack, Covitz would be pleased to help you find the right one. Just know he is not letting you out of the door unless the look is up to par.
Being a community friendly business is more important to Covitz than making money off an unhappy customer, as word of mouth has always been his bread and butter.
“What you are going to get from me is generally complete honesty, almost to a fault,” Covitz says. “You can’t leave here until I know it looks good, because you’re out there in there world with my name all over you.” Coming from a family of men’s clothiers, with his grandfather owning Leo’s Tailor Shop, and his father owning Rick’s Kansas City, Covitz understands the significance of running a shop with your name on it.
“Sure, I’d love to sell you something that is how I make a living, but I am not going to sell you something that I think you look terrible in just to make $50 or $100,” says Covitz. “In the long run is that good for my reputation, to have you out there looking terrible in a suit with my name on it?”
