We come into the game with a mix start to the season from last Saturday FA cup lost to NorthwichVicstoadraw against Bury on the opening day follow by a losttoBurscough.

FIXTURES & RESULTS // 2024-25

A BRIEF HISTORY OF TOWN

Cheadle Town was formed in 1961 as Grasmere Rovers playing in the Manchester & District Sunday Football League in their Under 16s Division. As the team developed the Under-21 Championship was won in 1968, followed by the Premier Division title two years later.

In 1972 the club made the significant decision to play their football on Saturday's and joined the Manchester Football League. Success on the playing field coincided with the arrival of Albert Pike as manager in 1978. In Albert’s first, full season he led the team to a terrific double of First Division Champions and Manchester Amateur Cup Winners; this was the prelude to even more success as the club won both the Manchester & Derbyshire FA Cups.

Floodlights were installed in 1995 and Manchester United provided the opposition for the official ‘switch-on’ when, on a memorable evening, Town beat United’s youngsters, 3-2 in front of almost 2,000 fans.

The biggest gate to watch Cheadle Town on domestic soil came ten years later against FC United of Manchester. Due to the huge interest in the game Town officials moved the fixture to Stockport County’s Edgeley Park, and they were rewarded with a bumper 3,227 attendance that witnessed a pulsating 3-3draw

The club is famous for its legendary foreign tours, having played 96 games (or 97 if you count our visit to play FC Isle of Man) in 30 different countries in front of over 312,000 fans and scoring 111 goals. Playing under their tour name, Manchester AFC, they have played against SEVEN national sides and onceplayedinfrontof65,000peopleinMexico City’s world-famous Aztec Stadium. Their epic journeys have taken them just over 210,000milesallovertheworld.

The club celebrated its 50th birthday in 2011 and, ifthe next 50 years are anything like the first, then there is a lot of excitement to come. It was at this time that Cheadle Town made the decision to change their kit colours to green which commemorated the colours worn by Grasmere Rover 50 years ago.

Cheadle Town are an England Football Accredited Club (formerly FA Charter Standard Community) acknowledging the most advanced level of club development and football provision

At the turn of the year in 2018 a new future for the club was heralded when it became part of the Little Sports Group, owned by ex-Cheadle Town player Craig Brennan.

In May 2018 we were awarded a £50,000 improvementbursary from Buildbase that will enable us to realise our vision to improve the matchday experience and develop footballingfacilitiesforthesurroundingarea.

CLUB PROFILE

Nickname: Town

Founded: 1961

Stadium: Ground Up Solutions

Capacity: 1,2000

Distance From TadStad: 56 Miles

Unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic brought a temporary stop to playing football, as the FA declared seasons 2019/20 and 2020/21 null and void.

Hopes were high for season 2022/23 following the appointment of Paul Marshall and Steve Yarwood in the close season. Paul brings with him a wealth of experience having played football at a professional level for Manchester City, Blackpool, Port Vale, Aberdeen, Walsall and Rochdale before moving to semi-professional football with FC Halifax Town, Stockport County, Alfreton Town and Curzon Ashton. Whilst Steve Yarwood is well known in the Manchester area having played for Salford City, Mossley, Abbey Hey and Wythenshawe Town.

And what a season 2022/23 was... for the first time in over 20-years Cheadle Town were finally promoted to the top tier of the NWCFL. In a season which saw the Football Club awarded 'Club of the Month' on three separate occasions and break records for unbeaten runs and consecutive victories. The season came down to the lottery of the Play-Offs which saw Cheadle Town defeat Stockport Town 2-0 in the Semi Finals, leading to a Final against Sandbach United. In front of acrowd of 1,375, Cheadle Town won 3-1 with Martin Pilkington confirming victory in injury time to the delight of the travelling supporters. An occasion that will long live in the memories of all involved with Cheadle Town.

THE NUMBER CRUNCHER

GETTING TO KNOW...

Thanks for speaking to us Daniel. You joined Cheadle from Stockport Town. How have you settled in and do you feel everyone around the club has made you feel welcome?

Thank you for having me on, yeah I've settled in really well to be honest. Theres a real community feel around the club which i know are doing more and more to grow it. One thing i was hoping for is that the changing room would be good because i left a really good changing room behind at Stockport Town so that was one thing i hoped would be replicated. Saying that, i knew it would be because i know what Jake’s about and i know how he sets his squads up so i knew it wouldn’t be an issue.

What made you choose Cheadle Town and why?

As for choosing Cheadle Town, Jake is the main reason i came to Cheadle because i know him well as he managed me at Cheadle Nomads. Along with Jake, i was excited with the clubs plans going forward and the project they have, so i wanted to be a part of that and hopefully get the club to where it wants to be.

Cheadle have a new at the helm in Jake, how do you feel the will do this season and do you feel the player you have can really build and push up the table?

Yes, think with the quality in the changing room we can definitely

be challenging at the right end of the table. It’s a really tough league so we will have to work hard but there is more than enough quality in the group to be up there.

What’s your goal tally for the season?

I’m currently on 2 goals which i scored on the opening day vs Prestwich Heys FC so I’m looking to get more as season go on and challenge for that golden boot.

Onto yourself now, if you could pick any stadium in the world to play one game in, which one will it be and why?

I’m a City fan but I’ve been on the pitch there a few times in the last few years so I’d say Wembley, it’s the home of football i suppose.

Who is the best player you have played with?

Paul Scholes (in a charity match)

Away from Football, what is your favourite past time?

I like to go to the gym and travel (when I get chance in between football)

What team do you support? Man City

Lastly who do you feel is a player to watch from the Gate?

I’ll be honest i don’t know too much about the Squires Gate team but i will say Regan Crossley because he’s scored a couple from centre half.
