BARNOLDSWICK TOWN DALE 12(P) 51(P)
Saturday 23rd February 2019 / The Brian Addison Stadium /NWCFL PREMIER DVIISION/Attendance:60 Squires Gate picked up their first win in five games on Saturday afternoon with a 5-2 win against Barnoldswick Town. Manager Andy Clarkson handed a debut to Billy Akrigg who signed from Kendal Town this past week. Ryan Riley and Dean Ing also came into the team to replace Dan Gray and Ric Seear who both missed the game through suspension. Akrigg looked sharp as the game begun, he won the ball back in midfield before finding James Boyd but the midfielder's shot was straight into the keepers arms. The debutante then won the ball back again in midfield and found Dean Ing but his shot was wide. The visitors then took the lead in the game from the penalty spot. After a foul on Dave Rossall was ignored, Adam Sumner took out a Barnoldswick attacker, Zac Dale stepped up to beat Ben Fletcher. Dean Ing came close to scoring a spectacular goal after 20 mninutes when he spotted the keeper off his line, sadly for Gate though his shot from the half way line was just over the bar. The goal of the day came from Billy Akrigg who opened his account for the club on the half hour mark. Dean Ing was again involved when he flicked the ball into the path of Akrigg, the midfielder carried on his run straight through the Barnoldswick defence before firing low into the bottom corner.
Half Time: Squires Gate 1-1 Barnoldswick Town
Gate started the second half straight from kick off and took the lead two minutes into the second half. A clever ball cut Barnoldswick defence in half to find the run of Riccardo Egidi who kept his composure to slot past the keeper. The visitors though replied with their second penalty of the game. A shoulder to shoulder challenge between Staunton-Turner and a Barnoldswick attacker was judged too heavy and the referee pointed to the spot. Zac Dale converted the penalty past Ben Fletcher for his second of the game. Down the other end Gate came close twice to again taking the lead. First Dean Ing headed the ball into the path of James Boyd but he midfielder could only find the side netting. Ing was again involved when he was found in the box by Bily Akrigg but the makeshift striker couldn't keep his header down. Gate retook the lead in the 68th minute when Riccardo Egidi scored his second of the game. He took on his man before curling the ball round the defender and past the keeper. The visitors were then reduced to ten men when defender Shaun Airey was shown a second yellow card. Minutes later Gate were then down to ten as Joe Booth was shown a second yellow card aswell. The game was wrapped up in added time as first Riccardo Egidi rounded the keeper who was way off his line to slot into the empty net for his hatrick. Then in the last minute of the game James Boyd was brought down in the box, he stepped up and slotted past the keeper for Gate's fifth.

JAMES OLSEN James was chosen to be the man to take over in the summer of 2018 and lead the club in its first ever sea son in the NWCFL Premier Division, James has given himself a great start to his life at Lihterland. Him and his team are sitting in 14th place and doing well in the first season in the Primer Division This is the First Time the two teams has met at Gate but they have played in December at Litherland Sports Park where gate came out 2-1 winners but Gate and Litherland will know todays game will be no walk in the park and James will do everything in his power to see his Team walk away with 3 points
HISTORY OF THE REMY Litherland REMYCA FC began life in the Seaforth area of Liverpool as St Thomas F.C. (1959). Players were recruited mainly from Seaforth and Bootle, and the team later became known as Bootle C.L.B. (Church Lads Brigade). Links were formed with Bootle YMCA which provided a club base and facilities to train. In 1967, a local working-man’s club offered to finance the running of the club. One year later, REMYCA UTD F.C. came into being, the name deriving from connections with both REM Social Club and Bootle YMCA. The team, after successive championships and earning a reputation for playing attractive football, were accepted into the I Zingari League. The founder members of REMYCA Utd, Bill and Ken Edwards, acted as managers having recently given up their playing careers. The I Zingari Challenge Cup was claimed in the 1975/76 season as REMYCA Utd began to establish itself as a force within amateur football on Merseyside. The formation of a Premier League led to the club being invited to become inaugural members. This demanded improved playing facilities and the club left its spiritual home at Moss Lane, Litherland to move to Maghull High School. A former player, Steve Smith, became manager and began building a squad capable of competing with the best amateur sides in the region. REMYCA Utd became the I Zingari League Champions in the 1987/88 season and in 1991 became one of the few Merseyside Teams to win the all Lancashire FA Amateur Cup. The 1990’s was a significant period in the club’s history, and the most successful, as both Premier League and Cup doubles were achieved in seasons 1993/94, 1994/95 and 1995/96 followed by again winning the Challenge Cup in the 1998/99 season. This period of dominance and success resulted in REMYCA Utd seeking entry to the Liverpool County Combination League to test itself at a higher level again. REMYCA are now based at Litherland Sports Park. Our mid-long term aims are to work with local councils to identify a site and build a community facility for all sides under the REMYCA banner as well as the local area. In 2013, the Management Committee of REMYCA began exploring the potential to grow and develop the club. The aim is for a sustainable club - a community based model offering football opportunity with good coaching to all ages from seven years upwards. The first stage of the new development plan was to add Litherland to the club name so as to identify with the local area and enhance the community ethos of the club. A key appointment was Colin Begbie as head of youth development, who’s experience and network of football contacts has proven invaluable. The club then applied, and secured a league position worthy of promotion to the NWCFL in 2014. In their first season, the club finished 9th and reached the semi final of the Reusch Cup, only to be beaten by Atherton Colls. A first ever appearance in the LCFA Senior Cup saw the club beaten by Skelmersdale United. REMYCA went on to reach the semi final in three consecutive years after this defeat. In 2015, Phil Stafford was given the job as first team manager following a successful stint at Maghull. In his second season, he led the club to a thrilling battle for promotion, which culminated in defeat at the final hurdle - the playoff final. That game holds the attendance record in NWCFL history, with 1303 supporters flocking to LSP. In March 2016, the quarter final of the LCFA Senior Cup saw Everton travel to LSP and fall to a solid, containing REMYCA by a goal to nil. This game put the club on the map, and boosted their profile and reputation. Ultimately, at the end of that season, Stafford decided it was time to move on along with Andy Olsen, and, after a search for a new gaffer, Paul McNally was handed the task of leading REMYCA from the beginning of the 2017/18 season. McNally put his own stamp on the team, and under huge expectations, guided the club to its first ever promotion and the highest level of football in the history of Litherland REMYCA. Along the way, REMYCA made their first ever appearance in the FA Cup, beating AFC Liverpool 2-0 in a game live streamed across the BBC iPlayer. In a shock turn of events, McNally left the club by mutual consent at the end of 2017-18, and left the club manager-less for the second straight summer. James Olsen was chosen to be the man to take over in the summer of 2018 and lead the club in its first ever season in the NWCFL Premier Division.

We also found out who will be in his 5 a side and who he would bring in on a free transfer to Litherland Remyca and football in general. What Was your expectations for the season after your promoted season last year?
Which players do you think will be the biggest threat to gate?
What improvements do you think need to improve on last season finished?
time watching Litherrland REMYCA?
There's a really good group of players at the club and its hard to pick any individuals. Lennon Whewell is an explosive centre forward who can be a I think the club wanted to stabilise in the Premier Division this season after winning promotion in the previous campaign. It was a hard task but nightmare for defenders. Jake Connor is an outstanding full back who can do ultimately a successful one, and now it's important for the club to retain it all and Paul Foy has bags of talent that makes him tough to stop. What has been the most memorable moment for you within your their status in this division.
It's hard to say after the management changes in the summer and half way through the season. Now, with Phil Stafford back in charge, I think it's just about giving the team time to settle into a rhythm heading into the back end of the season.
After average start to the season, do you think you have the what it take to finished well In your first season in the premier division? I fully expect the club to have a strong finish. Staffo has been back for a bit now and the players will be getting more and more used to his style of play and understand what he wants. I think they'll start to climb the table as the season draws to a close.

Probably the night we beat Everton in the LCFA Senior Cup. I hadn't been at the club long and seeing the faces of the people who made this club their life when Everton strolled into Litherland Sports Park was boss. It's a night nobody at the club will ever forget and helped put them on the map of football on Merseyside.
How long have you been a fan of litherland Remcya and do you remember your first ever game you seen of theirs? A couple of years now. My first game was st Helens town away on boxing day 2016 where we won 4-2 I think. The warm welcome the club give me that day will always stick with me.
Fans from other teams didn't know what about Litherland REMCYA? The club is 60 years old this year and was formed by club president Kenny Edwards and his late brother Bill.
Which players will be key for you in the final third of the season? The whole squad have a role to play. There's some good competition and I imagine Staffo will have some tricks up his sleeve to add to the squad before the deadline.
What has been the most memorable moment for you within your time watching Litherrland REMYCA?
If you could sign 3 Premier League players on a free transfer, who would you sign?
Probably the night we beat Everton in the LCFA Senior Cup. I hadn't been at the club long and seeing the faces of the people who made this club their life when Everton strolled into Litherland Sports
I'm not basing this on the squad we've got, rather just the best players in the league. Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Eden Hazard. Have you been to Squires Gate before? If so, what was the score? It's the club's first visit and one they'll be looking forward to. New grounds are always exciting to visit.
What Was your expectations for the season after your promoted season last year? I think the club wanted to stabilise in the Premier Division this season after winning promotion in the previous campaign. If you were manager of a 5 a side team and had to 2 Litherrland REMYCA players and 3 BPL legends. Who would be in your side? From the Prem I'd go for Alisson in goal, plus Gerrard and Henry. I'd stick Jake Connor and Colin Quirk from REMYCA in there to complete the team
with City Of Liverpool having a 10 points gap at the top of the table at the moment do you feel any team will be able to catch them, if so what team and why? The table doesn't lie and they are top for a reason. It's in their hands so unless they drop points nobody stands a chance. Bootle aren't going down without a fight though, and they're recent form has been good, so COL need to be wary of them.
What other team in the league do you will be able grain promotion in the next few years ? I've been impressed by Avro. They've got a good set up and they are well run. It would be nice to see our neighbours Lower Breck and AFC Liverpool get promotion to the premier division also.
Finally Predication for todays game? The REMY will win 3-1.

Gate had the first chance of the game after a sustained Picture by Albert Cooper spell of possession. Playing through midfield the move ended with James Boyd shooting wide from the edge of the box. The homeside felt aggrieved after nine minutes when they had calls for a penalty turned away. Ben Fletcher going for the ball pulled away his hands at the feet of the striker who went down without any contact, the referee showing a yellow card for a dive. Ric Seear went close for Gate after 15 minutes. The original corner was cleared by the homeside before Gate won the ball back and crossed to Seear but his looping header was over the bar. Seear's striker partner, Riccardo Egidi had the next chance but after rolling the ball past the keeper to striker hit the post from a tight angle. Riccardo didn't have to wait long for his second opportunity and this time the striker made it count. The big man held of his man as he burst into the box before slotting the ball under the keeper. A quick fire second goal came for Gate when James Boyd scored his second in two games. Ric Seear's original shot was saved but the keeper parried the ball into the late arriving Boyd who volleyed the ball in for 2-0. Gate were let off just before the break when Remyca had two good opportunities to grab a goal back. The first came when the ball was played low across the box where a Remyca man was waiting, but he fired over the bar from inside the six yard box. Then Ben Fletcher, who had a quiet first half, reacted quickly to get down low and save to his left.

Half time: Litherland Remyca 0-2 Squires Gate The homeside opening the scoring early in the second half in controversial circumstances. Gate felt that both Ben Fletcher and Dave Rossall were fouled in the build up as Warren Jevons rolled the ball into the empty net. Remyca had the ball in the back of the net after 75 minutes but the goal was ruled offside by the official. The homeside were reduced to ten men with seven minutes left when Gate were on the break looking for a fourth goal. Ric Seear was making ground down the left hand side when a bad tackle from behind took him down and reduced the homeside to ten men. Gate held on and defended well despite late pressure from the homeside. The win moves Gate upto 10th place in the league with two games in hand on Charnock Richard who a place below but level on points

GATE NEWS SIGNING: Defender Jacob Davis joins Gate from Kendal Town
Andy Clarkson strengthens his squad for the end of season run in with an experienced defender. The athletic defender joined his new team mates at training on Tuesday night and will be looking to make an instant impact in Saturday's game against Litherland Remyca. Jacob brings with him a wealth of Evo Stik experience having played for Lancaster City, Clitheroe FC and most recently Kendal Town. Jacob reunites with recent Gate signing Billy Akrigg who he played with at both Lancaster City and Kendal Town. Jacob also knows Ric Seear from there time together at Kendal Town. Jacob has experience at this level aswell having previously played for Padiham FC and Slyne with Hest in the West Lancashire Premier Division. We look forward to seeing Jacob in action and hope you will all welcome him to the club.
In a new feature we team up with the Non-league paper editor Matt Badcock who is going a little bit off a column each week to place into our programme so all you non-league fan can found out at happen all across the non-league pyramid Canterbury City have certainly had a topsy-turvy few weeks. Just moments after edging past Leicester Nirvana at the start of the month to reach their first ever FA Vase Quarter Final, the club were rocked by the news that the local council had rejected their proposals for a new stadium, which would have ended 12 long years of nomadic life. “One of the papers hit the nail on the head with the headline, joy to despair in the space of just 4 days” said City Chairman Tim Clark. “We are ground sharing at the moment and I think everyone knows that without a new stadium are future will be in jeopardy”. With relations between the club and the city council at breaking point, innovative direct action is now being planned. Taking inspiration from the Valley Party, which was formed by Charlton Athletic fans in 1990 in an attempt to pressure Greenwich Borough Council into allowing the Addicks to return to their home ground, Clark has revealed that several campaigners are preparing to run in May’s local elections. He added, “We have been continually let down by the council and we are acting to save the club. “We are not just campaigning for this single issue and are asking for more sports and recreational facilities to be developed across the whole area. “It is strange to have all of this going on in the midst of what is by far the most successful time in the club’s history. “The campaign is something that we are all really excited about and we are going to try and talk to the local students at the university to try and get them involved and to ensure that it is something which appeals to young people. “We have already found a number of people who are willing to run on our platform and stand up to the current council “It is certainly a tough moment but it has helped to bring everybody together and there is a really special atmosphere around the club at the moment”. From the perspective of the NLP it is deeply disappointing to hear how Canterbury City have seen their future put in jeopardy by the council’s recent decision and we wish them the best of luck with their campaign. Non-League clubs can play a vital role in conjuring up a sense of unity and identity within a community and it is crucial that they receive the support and protection of local institutions.

AROUND THE LEAGUE For the second season in succession, the league will have a representative in the last four of the Buildbase FA Vase. Northwich Victoria progressed to the semi-finals thanks to a 3-1 win over Sholing after extra time, and a report on the game can be found by following the link below. Elsewhere there were 25 league games across the three divisions, and the seven Premier Division games delivered a total of 35 goals. League leaders City of Liverpool maintained their eight point lead over Bootle at the top of the table with a 2-1 home win over Ashton Athletic. Joshua Nicholson had given Athletic a 16th minute lead, but after the break a John McGrath penalty and a Thomas Peterson goal just after the hour earned the points for the Purps. Bootle kept on the tails of their tenants and boosted their goal difference into the bargain, with a 6-1 win at Padiham. Carl Peers, Steven Jones, Connor Millington, Lee Hughes scored for the Bucks, who also benefitted from two own goals. Congleton Town remain in third place although their long trip up to Silsden ended in a 4-1 defeat, with Arley Barnes, Aidan Kirby, Niall Sultan and Laurence Sorhaindo all on target for the Cobbydalers. Runcorn Town moved up into fourth place with a 1-0 win at Irlam, Kevin Exell scoring the decisive goal nine minutes from time. At the other end of the table, Winsford United moved four points clear of the relegation zone with a 3-2 home win over West Didsbury & Chorlton. Sam Madeley hit a hat trick for the Blues, while Thomas Bailey scored both goals for West, who remain second bottom of the table. There was also a hat trick at the Brian Addison Stadium, with Riccardo Egidi's treble helping Squires Gate to a 5-2 win over Barnoldswick Town, and Scott McGowan scored twice for 1874 Northwich in the 3-0 win at Abbey Hey. Second half goals from Daniel Skelton, Luke Walley and Leon Ashman saw Whitchurch Alport through to a 3-1 win at Litherland REMYCA. The First Division North continues to be headed by Longridge Town, who kept up their promotion challenge in impressive style with a 7-0 home win over Carlisle City. Isaac Sinclair struck a hat trick for Town, with two of his goals arriving in the last three minutes. Second placed Avro stayed in touch at the top with a 3-0 win at Bacup Borough, and Lower Breck were the day's highest scorers, winning 8-2 at AFC Blackpool. James Colbeck struck a hat trick for Breck, two of the goals coming from the penalty spot. Callum Schorah and Anthony Lyons were on target for AFC Liverpool in the 2-1 win at Prestwich Heys that keeps them in fourth place, and AFC Darwen moved up into eighth place with Leon Creech scoring twice in a 2-1 win over Nelson. Down at the foot of the table, Holker Old Boys moved level on points with St Helens Town, five points clear of the relegation places, with a 2-1 win courtesy of two penalties from John-Paul Stanway. Atherton LR remain rooted to the bottom of the table after going down 5-0 at home to Garstang, Richard Coar scoring a hat trick for the visitors. In the other game Shelley shared a goalless draw with Chadderton. There was a full programme of games in the First Division South, and the top of the table clash at Hollyhedge Park ended all square, as Wythenshawe Amateurs shared a 1-1 draw with Rylands. The home side left it late to secure a point though, as Daniel Egan's equaliser arrived in the fifth minute of stoppage time after Rylands had led for most of the game through Stuart Wellstead's opener. Rylands remain seven points clear of the Ammies in second place, who in turn are one point ahead of Stone Old Alleynians and Vauxhall Motors. Stone Old Alleynians moved into third place with a 3-1 win at Alsager Town, secured by two second half penalties from David Ablewhite, but second half goals from Eccleshall's Joshua Graham and Jordan Benton sent Vauxhall Motors to a 2 -1 defeat at Pershall Park. There was late drama at Brantingham Road, where Connor Brotherton's 90th minute equaliser was then followed by a Grant Spencer winner in stoppage time to earn Wythenshawe Town a dramatic 3-2 win over Maine Road. That win moved Town into fifth place, one point ahead of FC Oswestry Town for whom Harry Bower scored both goals in the 2-0 home win over Cammell Laird 1907.Georgi Whyment set New Mills on the way to a 2-0 win over Abbey Hulton United, and the other four games all ended in away wins. Samuel Houghton scored twice, one a penalty, in Barnton's 3-0 win at Cheadle Town, and Kiarno Samms did likewise in Stockport Town's 3-0 win at Stone Dominoes. Callum Graybrook scored the only goal of the game in St Martins' 1 -0 win in the Shropshire derby at Ellesmere Rangers, and Sandbach United won 4-2 at Cheadle Heath Nomads.
