Saturday6th October 2018//The Brian Addison Stadium //Attendance:77 Squires Gate suffered a fourth defeat in a row on Saturday afternoon as the School Road's side slump continued. Manager Andy Clarkson welcomed two new signings to his side that lost late to West Didsbury last weekend. Striker Jamie Thomas, formerly of Bolton Wanderers and Burnley led the line for Gate whilst at the other end James Faiers kept goal in place of Ben Fletcher who was unavailable The visitors took the lead seven minutes into the first half. Joel Brownhill shot from the edge of the box was tipped wide by keeper Faiers on his debut. From the following corner Brownhill sent in a ball to the back post where an unmarked Brandon Barski headed in the opening goal. Debutante Jamie Thomas came close to opening his account for the club on ten minutes. Dean Ing found the striker who turned and spotted the keeper off his line but his lob was just over the bar. Ryan Riley sent in a testing ball into the Northwich box on 17 minutes but nobody could get a touch. Northwich extended their lead a minute later when Rob Doran was bought down in the box. Strike partner Joel Brownhill stepped up to the spot to double the Greens lead. After a lengthy stoppage in play due to a nasty looking head injury to for Dean Ing and a Vic's player, the visitors added a third goal.

From a corner Ben Reader guided the ball into his own net with a header any forward would have been proud of.

Half time: Squires Gate 0-3 Northwich Victoria Gate's best chance to grab back a goal in the whole game came from Ryan Riley on 52 minutes. After moving out wide he flicked the ball over the fullback into the Vic's box before watching his striker cannon back off the post. Brett Dawson but inside soon after as Gate started to get a foothold in the game but his shot was straight at the keeper. Jamie Thomas then came close but headed wide when Ryan Riley found him in the box. Northwich Victoria came close to adding another goal in the 78th minute but couldn't convert. Two players waiting at the back post but neither could get a touch on the cross.

After stepping to play for Wrens and Thornton for a year what made to come back up to the Nwcfl and play for Gate and do you feel it's a more challenging league? ANDY HOCKENHULL Current manager Andy Hockenhull took over in 2012 whilst the club were in the Cheshire League division one, in his first season he got them promoted into the Cheshire league premier division, after 2 years in that division they were then promoted into the North West counties division one, and in the two season that they have been in the league they have reached the play offs twice, more recently they lost to Whitchurch Alport in the semi final. Not only has Hockenhull won many promotions In his reign as manager but he has seen his side beat teams such as Nantwich Town and more recently Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park in the Cheshire senior cup. Its safe to say that he’s turned this club around. He was also recently awarded a lifetime membership at Sandbach United for his incredible achievements at the club.

HISTORY OF SANDBACH Sandbach United Football Club was established in 2004 when Sandbach Albion and Sandbach Ramblers joined forces in their quest to improve the football facilities in Sandbach. Hence the R & A on the club badge. In January 2004, the membership of Sandbach Albion and Sandbach Ramblers voted in favour of amalgamation, with the aim of playing as a single club from the start of the 2004/5 season. Sandbach Albion was formerly known as Hays Junior Football Club and was founded in 1994, playing on the pitches of what was then Albion Chemicals. As health and safety issues became more prevalent in the 90’s, they left that site and for 5 years the senior home ground was at Sandbach Cricket Club. The younger sides played their games at junior schools throughout Sandbach. Sandbach Ramblers Youth Football Club was formed in 1995 to provide access to schoolboy football for the youth of Sandbach. Of course there had been a Ramblers team in the town before, Sandbach Ramblers were initially formed over 100 years ago, playing in the Cheshire County League and winning the Cheshire FA Senior Cup in 1914, before folding in 1975 reforming in 1979 and disbanding in the late 1980s. In 2006 Sandbach United formed the adult team, which initially competed in the Crewe and District League before moving to the Staffordshire Senior League First Division and then being promoted to the Premier Division for the 2008/9 season. In 2011, the club was awarded grants by the Football Foundation and the local council of over £2 million to build a 3G pitch and 9 grass pitches, together with changing rooms and an education suite. The Sandbach Community Football Centre was opened early in the 2011/12 season. United switched to the Cheshire League in 2011 and won promotion to the Premier Division for the 2013/14 season before moving to The Hallmark Security League for the 2016/17 season. The clubs first season in the Hallmark Security League was better than we dreamed, winning the Macron Club of the Month in December, finishing 6th in Division 1 and being Reusch First Division Challenge Cup Runners up. Our goal keeper also collected two Reusch Keeper of the Month awards. In another first for the club, the 2017/18 season sees the club enter The FA Vase with a home 2nd Qualifying Round fixture against AFC Emley. The club has over 600 players and 40+ teams that operate from its Hind Heath Road base, which is just 3 miles from junction 17 of the M6. United have teams playing in the Mid-Cheshire Youth League, and the Cheshire Girls League among others, and the age range covers adults and veterans teams right down to Soccer School for Reception and Year 1 children.

This Week we interviewed Sandbach united Fan Jack Beresford. We interviewed him to found out how long he has been with Sandbach and his favoiute moment there, we also found out what his expectations for Sandbach this season. We also found out if he has ever been to Wembley and what ground in the NWCFL First division ground he was looking forward to this season Firstly how long have you been at Sandbach and what is your most favourite moment there?

Do you think you have improve on squad from last season and who do you think will be the biggest threat?

I have played for Sandbach since I was four (I’m now 18) unfortunately I don’t play for them anymore. I recently started working with the first team during march of last season when the previous reporter went onto bigger and better things.

Our team fom last season has improved more than anything, we haven’t really let anyone go, we have however added strength in depth, last seasons top scorer James Kirby has already got 14 goals for the season. Defensively we have also been solid, our keeper Ryan Moss should hopefully be fit for the game, if so, it’ll take something special to beat him

What are your expectations for the season from what you have seen so fair? As we lost in the play offs last season I feel as though this season we can go one further and contender for the title, however as the leagues have been reformatted and now only one team goes up it has made it a lot harder. However we have singed some very good players who have started well this season so hopefully we carry on our decent form for the rest of the season. We are also in free scoring form which helps, we look a threat going forward and we have been relatively solid defensively. So yeah, I feel like were in with a chance but its early days yet

After a up and down start to the season, do you the thinks you have has got what it takes to be challenge for that promotion spot this season?

Have you ever been to Wembley old or new if so what is your most memorable moments there and what is the best game there?

As I said before I’d fancy us, but there’s some good teams around who can cause real danger. I guess it just depends on who can stay fit, also I feel like the clubs facilities play a big part in their clubs season. No one wants to be catching up on games at the end of the season. Playing Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday for 3 weeks is not ideal, I mean look at 1874, going so far in the cup and sharing a ground backfired on them last season!

Being a Port Vale fan, I’ve never had the opportunity to go to Wembley, however hopefully one day, either Sandbach or Vale will have the opportunity to play at the home of football.

With it being FA Vase weekend, which teams do you think will still be a big challenge and do you feel you have what it takes to win it? Its cup football anyone can beat anyone. My knowledge of the Vase is limited, obviously thereare teams from all around the country who compete. Last year it was nice to see a local team do so well. It will be a great day out for all the fans, player and officials for whichever team gets to Wembley for the final.

Having not really followed your results this season (sorry) I have had to do my research. I see that goals are shared around the team with Richard Seear bagging the majority, also Brett Dawson and Ryan Charnley look have pitched in with a few too. It looks like you’ve had a mixed start to the season, so it should be a good game on Saturday.

With the first division being split into two division how do you feel it working out for you and who has you enjoyed playing so fair this season or looking forward to visiting I feel like the new format has made to harder to go up but travelling has become a lot more efficient and easier, personally I have enjoyed playing Cheadle this season, purely because of the 12 goals that we have put past them in the 2 games that we’ve played against them lol.

Which ground are you looking forward to visting this season? There’s some big teams in this league this season, Vauxhall Motors and Oswestry to name a few, Maine Road will also be a good place to visit because of all the history behind the area itself

Sandbach faced Cheadle Town in the second round of the first division cup on Saturday, last time the two sides met the game ended 7-0 to Sandbach so manager Andy Hockenhull would have been hoping for more of the same writes Jack Beresford. The game took a while to get going, both sides struggled to get the ball down and keep possession. The first real chance came after 17 minutes as a free kick from Dean Twigg was met by Kris Stockton who saw his header from point blank range superbly saved by the keeper who didn’t really know much about it. Two minutes later Stockton was forced off the field with a hamstring injury which was a big loss for Sandbach as he was a major threat in the air. The game needed something special to bring it to life and with five minutes left in the half, Billy Buckley brilliantly curled a free kick from the left of the box into the top right corner of the goal, leaving the keeper with no chance and putting his side in the lead. It was a moment of magic from the midfielder, whose set plays have become a real asset for Sandbach this season. With five minutes to go until half time Sandbach would have liked to go into the break a goal ahead but in the 42nd minute there was almost an instant reply from the away side as Ruben Abreu used his pace to race down the left and then cut into the box, as he got into the box the keeper came rushing out and made himself as big as he could to block the shot and preserve United’s lead. The referee had indicated three minutes of added time which gave Sandbach time to double their lead, Kieran Garner-Knapper has helped Sandbach massively as they look to add more goals to their game. His blistering pace is a problem for any defences. In the 48th minute he used this pace to drive down the right flank before crossing to Kirby at the back post. Sandbach’s top scorer was unmarked and he was able to rifle the ball into the back of net from six yards out making the scores 2-0 to United as the teams went in at half time. At the break Sandbach manager Andy Hockenhull would have been delighted that his side were 2 goals to the good, however there was still plenty of room for improvement. The second half couldn’t have started any better for the home side as five minutes in they were 3-0 up. Jake Chadwick fed the ball to Kirby who muscled his way into the box before firing the ball into the far-right corner, leaving the keeper with no chance. Kirby, who is in the form of his life has now scored 13 goals in his last 8 games for united. With 25 minutes of the game left Sandbach looked to have the game in the bag, however Cheadle came very close to pulling a goal back as a deep cross from 01 OLEKSANDR ILCHENKO the right was met by the dangerous Abreu at the back post who was 01 DA NE SMITH unable to find the target with his header from six yards out. It was a 02 BRADLEY COOPER 02 ROBERT WALLIS golden chance for the away side to get back into the game. They were 03 EILLOIT LEDWARDS 03 CHIRS SHERRINGTON made to pay for this miss one minute later when Sandbach grabbed their fourth of the afternoon. Another dangerous corner from Buckley 04 DECLAJN O’RIORDAN 04 MATTHEW GERMAN was met by defender Declan O’Riodan at the back post who bundled in 05 KRIS STOCKTON 05 TYLER DEVLIN his first Sandbach goal. Yet again Buckley’s delivery caused havoc in the 06 CHRIS ROWNTRE opposition box, allowing Sandbach to capitalise and score off another 06 LIAM DEALANEY set play. With 22 minutes to go Hockenhull bought off both Buckley and 07 JAKE CHADWICK 07 RUBEN ABREU Garner-Knapper to rest them. Sunday 16th September 2018/Park Road/ Attendance:102 After arriving late due to bad traffic, Gate were left with little time to warm up and get prepared for this game. Manager Andy Clarkson bought Seydou Bamba and Joey Mullen into the side that were looking to get back to winning ways after losing their last two games. Gate went close after just two minutes in the game. Ryan Charnley struck the crossbar from a freekick before Brett Dawson fired over. Joey Mullen found Dean Ing in the box after 17 minutes but the towering midfielder’s shot was saved. Mullen then had a chance of his own in a big opportunity for Gate. Ric Seear found Ryan Charnley who in turn found Joey Mullen but the midfielders low shot was saved. Gate eventually made there dominance play just before half time. Captain Matty Kay picked up a loose ball and played in Brett Dawson who made no mistake to slot the ball past the onrushing keeper. Half time: Worsbrough Bridge Athletic 0-1 Squires Gate

Brett Dawson came close to doubling his tally just after the second half started but the keeper did well to save well down low. The homeside came close to leveling the game when they got in behind Gate 3 on 1. Gate did well to recover but the shot was saved easily by Ben Fletcher. They came forward again soon after as they started to try to keep the ball but Ben Fletcher was equal with a good save. Gate had the ball in the net for a second time, but the linesman ruled the goal out for offside. As the game went on the homeside looked to push for an equaliser but couldn’t break Gate down. Whilst up looking for a last minute equaliser, Gate scored a second on the break. Brett Dawson found Ric Seear on the half way line, the striker took the ball in his stride and rolled the ball into the empty net.

GATE NEWS SIGNING: Ex Burnley and Wales U19’s forward Jamie Thomas joins Gate.

A Blackpool resident, Jamie has been a long term target of Andy Clarkson. Jamie was released by Burnley where he’d spent two years. Starting his playing career at Blackpool FC’s academy, Jamie spent 8 years before transferring to Bolton Wanderers completing a two year scholarship. In the time he scored 17 goals then 15 the year after in the Under 18’s. After completing his scholarship he was rewarded with another year deal in May 2015. Jamie featured for the first team as an unused sub in the championship against Cardiff City and Hull City. He was released from Bolton at the end of the 2015-16 season when Bolton were relegated, Newly promoted Burnley picked up the forward signing him to a two year deal for their development squad in the club’s first season in the Premier League. During his time at Burnley he spent a short period on loan at Ayr United but that loan was cut short as his game time would be limited. In August 2014 Jamie received a call up to Wales Under 19's. He made his debut against Montenegro scoring in a 3-1 win. Jamie made a total of 8 appearances for Wales scoring four goals. Jamie joins up with the squad for today's home game against Northwich Victoria and we wish him the best of luck in Gate colours. On finally getting his man, Andy Clarkson said: "I’m delighted to have the signature of Jamie Thomas , personally for Jamie it gives him a platform to get back into the game at pro standard and for Squires Gate we are hoping he can help us score a few goals and get us further up the league table

In a new feature we team up with the Non-league paper editor Matt Badcock who is going a little bit off a column each week to place into our programme so all you non-league fan can found out at happen all across the non-league pyramid This week’s NLP programme column below, written by Nathan French, the FA’s National Respect Project Manager. It’s from a segment within the NLP edition called ‘Football Matters’, which if you’re not aware is a running series we have with various figures from within the FA’s operating structure. By Nathan French A LOT has been said over the years about disrespect in grassroots football – now it’s about changing the tone of voice to focus on the importance of Respect in the game. Respect is a positive action. Yes, there are heightened incidents which can grab the headlines but there is a lot of good work going on every week across the country. We need to make it socially unacceptable to behave badly on the touchline, whether it’s coaches or parents. Having previously been involved with Respect from a County FA’s point of view – I worked for the Suffolk FA – and also as chairman of a youth league for three years, I had my own take on what works well locally. But I was keen really keen to get an understanding about what ‘good’ looks like across the country and appreciate it’s going to be different in different places. So my first year was very much that. We did a lot of research to understand what has worked well over the last eight years but also really look forward to see where we need to position Respect strategically in order to make the greatest impact. Grassroots football covers such a vast area, so the questions were: where do we need to focus our resources time and money? What is most needed? Over the last few months we’ve really started to execute our three-year strategy for Respect.The key focus is mini soccer and youth football – U7s right up to U16s. With the Respect campaign being nearly ten years old, we’ve naturally got a whole new group of parents, coaches, volunteers and players have emerged. Ensuring the environment is right for those players, and that it is created by those parents, coaches and volunteers, is really important. A big point from the research was getting the off pitch right as much as on the pitch. We often talk about the match environment in isolation. Actually a lot of incidents can happen from social media, or from the way the changing rooms were left last time the two teams played, or it could even be the way you are welcomed when you arrive at the ground. That can go a long way to setting the tone for the rest of the day and the game ahead. So it’s looking at how coaches, parents and volunteers from both teams can work together – rather than against each other – to create that environment because, ultimately, everyone is looking for a fantastic experience. It links in to our ‘We only do Positive’ campaign. We know 90 per cent children play better with positivity. That stat isn’t necessarily surprising but it’s important people see that encouragement and a positive environment is so important. If you flip it, we know one negative experience can have a big effect on a child for lasting period of time. It’s adults creating the environment so players will enjoy the game more. This is not about being positive for positives sake. It’s about focusing on the good things players have done In grass-roots football there will always be mixed abilities. Let’s help players love the game. Everyone develops better when they are having fun. The FA Youth Review was implemented in 2011 and really focused on making the game child friendly with 5v5, 7v7, 9v9 and more appropriate goal sizes. That’s been embraced but now it’s about building on that and topping up all the good work that has been done We’re well aware people can drop out of the game from 14+ – so this is about giving them a really good experience so they want to keep playing. The challenge with Respect is how we bring longevity to it. We don’t just want it to be a one-off campaign. That adds value but we want to make it consistent in the game each week in all areas. We’ve got Play Your Part code of conducts which helps implement the values whatever your role is. It gives clubs a real focus to help their volunteers but, also, if there is disrespect, how to deal with it. Each month we have activations which focus on different ways of changing behaviour. So in the winter months we’re looking to pilot Positivi-tea. It’s a simple idea of people holding a cup of tea that is labelled with positive messages. The science behind it is people are less likely to shout something abusive or negative if they’re holding something that’s labelled with good messages. In January we’re going to be launching 21 Days of Positive – that’s how long it takes to break or form a new habit. We want to empower coaches and parents to engage with their children in the right way.

AROUND THE LEAGUE A mixture of 16 cup ties and 12 league fixtures across three divisions provided the usual mix of talking points over the weekend. With clubs voting to have an "all in" draw with no geographic separations, the First Division Cup 2nd Round paired up a good number of North v South clashes, and four of the ties were decided on penalty shoot outs. The highest scorers of the day were Avro, whose 7-0 home win over Stone Dominoes saw six different scorers on target for the home side, but probably the most eye catching score of the day was at Adie Moran Park, where holders Prestwich Heys were defeated 6-1 on their home patch by Barnton. Ryan Malone and Lee Guirado both scored twice for the Villagers, whio have now hit 11 goals on the road in their last two games. Sandbach United kept up their recent good run with a 5-0 win at home to Cheadle Town, with leading scorer James Kirby adding another two to his tally for the season. Cheadle Heath Nomads also hit five at home, winning 5-2 against St Helens Town, a result that was all the more notable given that Nomads were two goals down until the 34th minute. Division North pace setters Carlisle City won 3-0 at Lower Breck, although victory was only secured in the final four minutes when goals from Aaron Bradbury and Robert McCartney made the game safe for the Cumbrians. n the other games that saw visiting teams clinch victories in regulation time, goals from Michael Gervin and Matthew Dell saw Bacup Borough to a 2-1 win at Steeton, and David Wright scored twice in Wythenshawe Amateurs' 4-2 win at Ashton Town. Alsager Town bounced back from a heavy midweek league defeat to progress through to the next round with a 3-2 win at Chadderton, where all the goals came in the opening 42 minutes. There were home wins recorded by Eccleshall, whose 2-1 defeat of Nelson at Pershall Park was sealed by a 90th minute winner from James Lewis, and AFC Blackpool were set on the way to victory by the same score against Stockport Town through first half goals from Mike Hall and Isaac Sinclair. James McGrane scored twice for AFC Liverpool in their 3-0 win over Cleator Moor Celtic, and in the one game played on Friday night, a Daniel Cross penalty was enough to edge a 1-0 win for Vauxhall Motors over Cammell Laird 1907..Four games were decided by penalties after the teams were tied at the end of 90 minutes. An 88th minute equaliser from Seth Ellis of Ellesmere Rangers ensured their game against Stone Old Alleynians ended 1-1, and Rangers won the shoot out 4-2. There was also a late equaliser at Drayton Beaumont Park, where Abbey Hulton United's Kieran Lazenby salvaged a 2-2 draw for his side with an 89th minute goal against Rylands, but it was Rylands who won the shoot out 4-3. In the derby clash at the Mike Riding Ground, Richard Coar's 79th minute equaliser earned Garstang a 1-1 draw at Longridge Town, with Garstang winning 4-2 on penalties, and the most convincing winners on penalties were FC Oswestry Town, who won their shoot out 4-1, after drawing 2-2 at Maine Road. In the Premier Division, City of Liverpool continue to set the pace at the top of the table with a 4-0 home win over West Didsbury & Chorlton, the Purps all bar securing the victory within 40 minutes by building a three goal lead.They head the table by two points from Runcorn Town, whose 3-0 win at third placed Silsden was set in motion by an opener from new signing Dale Jennings. Barnoldswick Town are fourth despite being held to a 2-2 draw at home to Irlam, for whom Connor Martin scored both goals, the second just five minutes from time. Northwich Victoria kept up their recent good form with a 3-0 win at Squires Gate, where goals from Brandon Barski, a Joel Brownhill penalty and an own goal built a three goal lead at half time that they held to the end. Two goals from captain Carl Grimshaw were the highlight of Charnock Richard's 4-0 win at Winsford United, but highest scorers of the day were Whitchurch Alport who hit six without reply at Abbey Hey, Alex Hughes and Nicky Porter both scoring twice. Those two results saw Winsford and Abbey Hey occupy the bottom two places after Ashton Athletic defeated Bootle 2-0 at Brocstedes Park. On a day dedicated to the late Club Secretary Taffy Roberts, Josh Nicolson scored a goal in each half to earn the Yellows their second win in four days. In the two other games, goals from Declan Gregson, Warren Jevons and Peter Silcock delivered a 3-1 win for Litherland REMYCA on their first ever visit to Hanley Town, and an 89th minute equaliser from Matthew Woolley salvaged a point and a 1-1 draw for 1874 Northwich at Burscough. The game between Congleton Town and Padiham was abandoned at the midway point in the second half. A league statement on this issue can be read here. The two games in the First Division North affected the positions at the bottom, with Holker Old Boys posting their first win of the season in fine style, beating Atherton LR 5-0. Christopher Wraighte grabbed a double for the Stags in a much needed victory that saw them swap places with Daisy Hill, who hit bottom spot after going down 4-1 at Shelley, for whom Craig Billington struck a hat trick. In the one game that took place in the First Division South, St Martins moved to the top of the table with a 3-2 win at New Mills, Harrison Millington scoring twice for the Saints. LAST TIME GATE WAS HERE BURSCOUGH 3 GATE 2 Gate could have then doubled their lead in controversial circumstances. The home keeper was lucky to stay on the pitch after nine minutes when he pulled down Gary Pett who was in on goal. Pett dusted himself down and with the keeper only receiving a yellow card, lined up a freekick just outside the box. Unfortunately for Gate, the freekick deflected off the inside of the post before being cleared. Ben Fletcher then had to be alive in a mad spell to deny the homeside three times in six minutes. He first had to be alive when a freekick into the box found the head of Chad Whyte which Fletcher saved. Then from a similar area, Fletcher denied the homeside again before saving his best till last denying form Gate striker Terry Cummings on the half hour mark. The homeside would eventually equalise five minutes before half time. From Gate's own attack the Burscough broke forward seeing Ben Fletcher finally beaten by Peter Henerty. Gate wouldn't end there though and found themselves back in front on the stroke of half time. Gate stalwart Andrew Richards, forward from full back, showed great composure when the ball fell to him in the box to stroke the ball under Samberg to give his side the lead. Returning midfielder Dean Ing looked to extend Gate's lead straight into the second when he made space for himself, only to see his shot roll into the keepers arms. Ing could have then been in again minutes later when Mark Buchan looked for the midfielder's run, but the ball was cut out before it could find him. The homeside would equalise in the 74th minute. Defender Luke Gibson heading past Fletcher from a deep freekick into the back post. Burscough would then go on to win the game late into the last 10 minutes when a draw looked likely. The ball wasn't cleared by Gate allowing Matthew Ward to tap in a the back post for his third goal in four games.
