Introduction Facade redesign of SOM’s Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library This project looks to the previous facade design to draw inspiration from the original grid and reinterpret it in new light in order to add to the exterior and interior space. In the same vein, the new facade creates a design aesthetic that understands the original design intent and re-presents it in a new manner through the use of the digital tools.

Drawings Facades The new facade design is based on multiple levels of hierarchy. The first level is seen through the bevels and gives depth to the facade. The second level emphasizes each individual block as a single unit in the whole. The openings are based on the proximity of the individual brick in relation to the attractor points. these openings allow for views to the buildings in the general area.
