CONCEPT Colfax is an intricate machine consisting of people, cars, and materials flowing through its many streets and alleyways. there are systems in place that allow materials and products to be easily moved in and out of businesses and homes. imitating this aspect of Colfax, the concept behind the DTJ vocational school is to reveal the movement of materials and people throughout the building. Pedestrian pasageways are exposed both as trasparent hallways and catwalks. Conduits moving resources such as water, gas and electricity are exposed on the outside of the building and products are moved from the workshops to the presentation space in a series of ramps, chutes, conveyor belts, and lifts. Colfax is also a unique real of public territory filled with people from all walks of life in a way that isn’t seen anywhere else in the city. In order to cater to that aspect as well the building reflects the prominent skating culture that exists on Colfax. The skatepark underneath gives space back to the public and the curves that grace the building subtly reflect curves seen in skateparks.
