Florence and Rome are iconic travel destinations. Neither Jake nor I had been to either for almost fifty years. It was obviously past time to return. Our three and a half weeks in Italy included a couple of nights in both Milan and Siena and a week in each of Florence and Rome. We also drove almost 1000 kilometers to visit remarkable sites in Urbino, Assisi, and Orvieto and to trace the Piero della Francesca Trail. We were able to confirm why the art and culture of Central Italy are justifiably so popular. However, we were disappointed that several of the works of art that we had hoped to see were closed for conservation or repair.
