PSYCHE
A VISUAL REVEALATION
The project
CONCEPT
A shoot including 3 portrait photographs of three different people and 2 object photographs of 2 things that they share in common. The project aims at capturing the “Psyche or personality of the subjects with the help of distinguished colors and lighting techniques to highlight the dominant aspect of their personality. The difference in their personalities and the similarities in the objects for which they share common interests is what brings stark contrast between the three subjects while still binding them together with those two objects.
Inspiration
ART MOVEMENT
MINIMALISM An art movement that developed in the United States in the late 1950s and reached its peak in the mid to late 1960s. It focuses on basic elements. Minimalism was also a reaction to the most prominent style of art pursued in the 1950s, Abstract Expressionism, in which the art conveyed multiple meanings of intense emotion, ideas, feelings and was sometimes created in spontaneous or unplanned ways. Minimalism is characterized by precise, hard-edged, geometric forms, with rigid planes of colour pigment typically utilizing cool hues or maybe just one colour. What inspired me? Renowned minimalist “Dan Flavin” gave minimalism a whole new perspective. Utilizing fluorescent light tubing, he created light installations (or “situations” as he preferred to call them) that became icons of Minimalism. Flavin’s wall- and floor-mounted, site-specific fixtures, composed of intersecting and parallel lines of light in conventional colours, is what inspired me to play with colors and use them as a tool to depict a visual story.
