The Craft Project IIAD X RANGSUTRA
About The craft project is collaborated with Rangsutra Craft India limited.It was group project with indivisual outcome and deliverables,in which we have to build the collection with the Indian context of craft.The project’s aim to understand the rich tradition of the craftsmanship(Bikaner and Lucknow) in rapidly changing urban market and targeting the spring summer 2021 season.According to the brief which was given by Rngsutra,we were divided into two groups one for Rangsutra retail and one for Fab India,Fab India is the biggest client of Rangsuta.
Sumita Ghose is the founder and managing director of Rangsutra, a social enterprise which seeks to bringabout socio economic development and inclusive growth in rural India by engaging both: the community and the market. Rangsutra is owned by 1800 rural artisans- most of whom are women. Other owners are like minded organizations and people committed to ensuring sustainable livelihoods for rural artisans in India. Rangsutra provides design, marketing, technical and organizational support needed to make crafts and allied rural industries into viable enterprises, so that they provide regular home / village based employment to 3500 rural artisans. Rangsuta act as a bridge between rural artisans and global consumers in order to develop sustainable livelihoods and revive India’s rich craft heritage. We believe that our communities of artisans, particularly women, deserve economic opportunities. RangSutra sells a range of handcrafted products to Fab India, which has been a partner and promoter of village handlooms work and traditional crafts and skills. Its is the single biggest buyer of the company. Currently, more than 90% of its sales are made to FabIndia.

FORT
Junagarh Fort, previously known as Chintamani, is situated in Bikaner. Karan Chand, the prime minister of Raja Rai Singh, supervised the construction of the fort. The construction of the fort was started in 1589 and ended in 1594. The fort was attacked many times and only Kamran Raza, son of Mughal Emperor Babur, was able to win it and that too for one day only. At that time, Bikaner was ruled by Rao Jait Singh. The fort includes palaces, temples, gates and many other structures.

BRAND STUDY
Fab India was founded in 1960 by John Bissel. First retail store was opened in Greater Kailash, New Delhi in 1976.It is a largest private platform for the product that are made from traditional technique, skills and hand based product.The early eighties Fab India was already known for garments made from hand woven and hand printed fabrics . In 2000, the non textile range was added .Today with pan –India presence ,Fab India is the largest private platform for products that derive from traditional craft . Fab India links over 55,000craft based rural producer to modern urban market , creating a base for skilled ,sustainable rural employment and preserving India’s traditional handicrafts in the process. In 2005 , Fab India become a founder member of ALL INDIA ARTISANS AND CRAFT WALFARE ASSOCIATION (AIACA ) .
