The Brief It has always been a challenge in today's world to create spaces near areas with historical importance without disrupting their aura, but at the same time that stays true to this era. Vellore fort stands in the heart of the city. Like every monument, it has it’s own stories to tell. The fort instills curiosity and reverence to the legacy left behind. As you walk through the structure, the sculptures placed pay a fitting tribute to the fort. It becomes a preview of the Vellore fort museum. Fractal geometries were the foundation for this spatial exploration. The concept of the folly is based on logarithmic curves, where the design brings qualities of layering, and visual weight seen in fort. In spite of multiple layers of stone, there is a lightness that is defined by voids in the pattern. Thus, 110 becomes a space that doesn't overwhelm the experience, yet fills the user with a sense of pride towards his hometown, and comfort, that binds him to his roots.

Day 1 An Introduction to the workshop A Glance at the Site

Day 2 Exploring Fractal Geometry

Day 3 Spatial Geometries Exploration of Forms

Rule for Generation On basis of the idea of “Steps Multiple iterations tried by increasing height and application of multiple rules

Day 4 Selection and Multiple Iterations for Generation of form Site Analysis

CONTEXT AND LOCATION

EDGE CONDITIONS

CONCEPTION OF SITE ABSTRACT

Choosing Site

CONTEXT ABSTRACTION INTO DESIGN

The chosen model to make further iterations of came with the simple approach of “Using Straight Lines to make flowing curves This was done by forming logarithmic curves of 1:1 as well as other spacing ratios that included the Fibonacci series, 1:2, 2:3 and so on. Further, the multiple curves thus made were used to generate new complex curves to the form

Day 5 Introduction of contextual factors Finalizing Design

Many rules were applied and multiple compositions made as iterations of the chosen initial form

Day 6 & Day 7 On Site Construction
