A repository for thoughts, this project is designed around the subtle ways of the cycle of human life where the tension of balance is present at all times at the center. As a ripple in nature, the design seeks change as a factor that seeks the perpetual discovery of the part to whole relationships of humanity living in consonance with nature and life.
Key design elements are time, nature and the rationale of geometric systems.

BENARAS (KASHI) “Where land meets water onto eternity.” PROJECT TYPE Research essay (excerpt)
SPIRIT The Ghats of Benares are based on Hinduism’s sacred geographical cosmic relationship where man’s temporal journey as a pilgrim on Earth is expressed architecturally.
A pilgrimage or Tirtha is indispensable to Indian life. It is a journey for the human evolution toward the center of Cosmos: a self-renewal, discovery and enlightenment. Marked as a crossing, these places for pilgrimage are often located on rivers. The term tirtha has a transcendental significance where emancipation can be be found. This is where the other shore can be reached. Following this context, a mediation of a sacred place is vital. Pilgrims travel along concentric routes of varying lengths. To the west of Kashi, lining riverbank steps along the periphery of the Ganges, Ghats are present.
35
India is called a living museum where cities are seen as physical manifestations of the divine. One of the most noteworthy features of Hinduism is its strong linkage to the physical geography of India: its mountains, lakes, rivers, forests and cities. These physical manifestations can be found at three levels: the universal, national and the local. There is no hard and fast distinction between religious activities and the mundane. Historically, Varanasi was an ongoing center for learning and consecration till this process was interrupted by Islamic conquerors from the 10th century. A second major disturbance was created by The western European powers from the 16th century.
Benaras (the place) is more than a place, it is a conceptual metamorphosis of knowledge as evident through these photographs Image credits: Lannoy, Richard. Benares seen from within. Bath: Callisto books, 1999.
