Circus artistry meets summer fun in this unique summer camp! Campers ages 6* – 15 will learn circus arts disciplines, including triple and single trapeze, globes, silks, hula hoop, rolla bola, clowning, trampoline, juggling, and more! Circus Summer Camp includes games, crafts, and activities, but campers do more than make friends and have fun. Circus Campers increase coordination through acrobatics, develop their balance on the low wire, and find courage on the flying trapeze, all while having the time of their lives! At the beginning of the sessions, campers spend a day trying circus acts. For the rest of the session, they work on one skill set for a part of each day, all while continuing to explore other aspects of circus. At the end of the session, campers display their new skills in a spectacular costumed show for families with a different theme each session. Two weeks of fun and musical learning experiences at the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center include rehearsals in a large ensemble, instrument technique, and elective classes such as music theory, rhythm, ear training, audition preparation, sight-reading, and so much more. Campers show off their skills on the final day at an end-of-camp concert. Camp faculty are local school music educators and Sarasota Orchestra musicians, all highly respected in their areas of expertise. Grades 10-12 During the four-week intensive, students follow a robust curriculum of core classes for fundamental skill building, as well as two selected immersions for a deeper investigation of areas reflective of the College’s degree programs. Your child will train Capoeira, a Brazilian martial art and grappling with certified teacher and instructors. ODA’s goal is to provide your child with a well-rounded experience in the world of sports. They focus on developing not only athletic skills, but what it means to be a team player, what it takes to be a leader, and the importance of integrity in sports. Grades 3-12 Elementary, middle, and high school students are invited to register for camp, even if you are a new rower or have no experience rowing! Rowers are grouped by age and skill level. Experts introduce campers to the growing sports of trap, skeet, sporting clays, archery and bowhunting. IN THE PARKS JUNIOR LIFEGUARD CAMP Ages 9-17
Spend a week with professional lifeguards learning the fundamentals of lifeguarding. This program offers hands-on learning experiences and character-building* activities while having fun. Lifeguards with the Sarasota County Lifeguard Division train participants in water safety, rescue techniques, rescue paddling, competitive lifeguard events, how to identify and treat marine life, CPR and first aid. The fee includes a rash guard and a T-shirt. Swimsuits and goggles are required. To participate, all potential campers must attend a 30-minute tryout session at Arlington Park pool and demonstrate the ability to swim 100 yards freestyle in 2:05 or less, tread water for five minutes and retrieve an object from the bottom of the pool. *** A strong swimming background is essential, swim team experience is preferred. *** Returning campers are exempt from tryouts. 5-18 Each June, SYO offers multiple summer camps for young people. Under the direction of Sarasota Opera’s professional artistic and production staff, campers experience the magic on the stage and behind the scenes as they study the many facets of opera, from music and acting to opera appreciation and production. Designed for all skill levels, our annual camp engages young people in the magic of opera. A typical day includes sessions in singing, acting, sets, props, wigs, make-up, and costumes, all led by industry artists, directors, musicians, and technicians.
