Lauren Young, Modern Apprentice Agriculture

Lauren left her post as a dental nurse to join the agriculture apprenticeship programme based at Ayr after securing a full-time post at a dairy farm in Catrine, Ayrshire After taking on part-time work milking at the farm Lauren developed a real passion for rural life and the variety of work that farming offered Lauren who previously considered herself a “townie”, not from a farming background, has fully embraced the lifestyle and is now the secretary for her local Young Farmers association which she says has led to many new friendships and lots of socialising. Reflecting on her choice to change career paths she has no regrets “It’s hard work but no day is the same, I’m really enjoying the variety of the course as well as the job and looking forward to doing my tractor driving training, I can’t think of a job I’d rather be doing
