Welcome to The Wayfarer 2016 Art Edition
I
t has been a busy few months for the Global Board. After the summer break, we have all been working hard to have all Chapter budgets approved, finish the update of the SSA Guidelines and Mission Statement, and trying to fill out the positions that have become vacant recently. Our organization is going strong and continues to thrive despite the economic difficulties that our industry is facing. SSA Chapters around the world continue functioning without much budget, with the main focus on welcoming new members to their locations. Sadly, other locations have had to close their Chapter temporarily, but we’re sure those Chapters will be ready to be reactivated when needed.

This edition of The Wayfarer was due in the summer, but it took longer than expected to have it ready. This is the 9th Edition of The Wayfarer that I’ve had the pleasure to publish, and it is always one of the most enjoyable parts of my job! I want to thank all the artists who sent in their amazing works of art. We have beautiful photographs, drawings, paintings, computer generated art, glass sculptures… I hope you enjoy all of them!

Sandra Showalter "This adventure of creating art, studying it, attending workshops and classes, didn't start until about 1.5 years ago. Although, I took snaps of my kids while living overseas I didn't think that it would become more than just that. After relocating to Houston, I decided I wanted to try and pursue something that I can take with me no matter where we are taken in life. Photography/art has not only become a hobby, it has become a passion. I attend many workshops, photo shootouts, photo walks, and classes as well as pursue my own adventures.

Take a walk through the zoo, take several photos and combine them together; take photos of the kids playing in the back yard and see one photo that immediately says sitting on a ledge, or watching the kids playing with the Christmas tree and thinking they are the ones shining the light and putting color in our lives. My style has evolved into something that captures more than just a photo, it captures an emotion, a story, and provokes thought and wonderment. "

Dylan, who is from Durango, Colorado, USA, explains the inspiration for her artwork: “I am inspired by Erin Hunter's Warrior's series. The program I like to draw on is called Deviantart. It takes me more than an hour to do a drawing without a background. More than two hours for a drawing and a background. I would like to add that anyone who likes cats or adventure, I would like them to try reading Warriors. The first book is Into the wild (I started with Power of Three, oops).”

SSA Mumbai
W
ith all the stress in our day to day lives, we at SSA Mumbai, wanted to plan some distinct event, which would freshen up the minds before we all parted for the vacation. And what's
better than to do something creative.
The Wayfarer—2016 Art Edition

The last event for the season was ‘I can paint my own canvas' held at a restaurant in Mumbai. We were all a little anxious as we had never painted a canvas earlier and are also not good at drawing :) But as we proceeded with it, it got better. Artists Sandeep Tatiya and Smita Tatiya (both have hearing and speech impairment) made sure that we all painted the picture well. They gave clear instructions and helped us whenever we were stuck. It was a very different and stress relieving experience. We were getting into the groove and soon our painting was turning out to be beautiful. We also got some lessons as to how to paint a canvas and it was truly motivating as the artists did not let their physical challenge hamper their talent. The event saw good turnout and each one of us got a chance to express our creativity.

areas of our two cerebral hemispheres, as the action involves logic and creativity. It has a de-stressing effect because we focus on a particular activity and not on our worries. This event was picture perfect to end the quarter as it encouraged our imagination and recalled our childhood:)

I like painting since a long time ago, but never had the time to do it. These were painted in 2015, it is acrylic on wood and canvas, inspired by Brazilian artist Romero Britto. The one with the girl has a glossy finish and is a tea bag box.

oralie is French, and is currently living in Sugarland, Texas. She started drawing when she was 8 years old, when her mother signed her up for drawing lessons. After drawing so many apples, she gave up! But then, 4 years ago while living in MacaĂŠ, Brazil, she met an amazing artist that became her teacher. Coralie started painting with oil, and her surroundings gave her the inspiration. She continued painting after moving to the US.
