DEAR SSA MEMBERS... BY PIA DEY VERMA, SSA GLOBAL COORDINATOR

“We're all going on a summer holiday No more working for a week or two Fun and laughter on our summer holiday No more worries for me or you For a week or two…..” So sang Cliff Richard in his 1963 movie, “Summer Holiday”. We had an old vinyl record at home with the song on it which I played over and over again. I remember being stretched out on the cool tiled floor of our house with a steady supply of mangoes, water apples and books. The song seemed to take me to a beach, on a road trip, with unlimited ice cream and laughter. It was what every holiday was meant to be. Rest and recuperation. So I hope that wherever you are, dear SSA member, you are right now having the perfect summer. One that refreshes you, recharges you and takes away your worries – even if it for just a little while. We will meet after summer and exchange our summer holiday stories. Till then, enjoy this edition of The Wayfarer and stay happy and healthy! Regards Pia Dey Verma SSA Global Coordinator

HI EVERYBODY... BY MARYESTHER LEON, SSA LATIN AMERICA AREA COORDINATOR

My name is Maryesther Leon, I have been a member of the Schlumberger Family for 16 years now, first as a Schlumberger Employee and then as a Schlumberger wife. I have experience been transfered as SLB Employee and recently as a Mother.. What a different experience, what a different hopes and fears and what a difference is to be a member of the SSA! I joined the SSA back in 2019. My son was 2 years old and I think the SSA member that saw me that day got the feeling that I needed help. Help in the form of somebody understanding what I was going through. Those of you who have had a baby in a different country or location can understand the overwhelming feeling of not having a long-life friends and family support system. However, as soon as I joined the SSA my perspective changed. I have made great friends and keep meeting new and wonderful people that helps me in so many ways just because they want to.

4

Being part of the Global board for the first time has allow me to be in contact with members around the world sharing their wisdom and experiences. It has enriched my life in so many ways and I am trilled of have taken this opportunity in the first place. So I encourage you all to participate actively in your locations and even at the Global board, it is a very rewarding experience that will be with you forever. Now we are in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. This is my son’s first moving experience which I must tell you have been a challenge. New country, different language, first school experience, new home. But thanks to the SSA members of this location we feel like we have long-life friends in here. For those of you that haven’t come to Latin America I hope this edition of The Wayfarer can give you a glimpse of what an amazing place it is, what an enriching culture we have. Here in LAM you can find from beautiful beaches, impressive mountains, three of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World and cosmopolitan cities. ARTICLES NEW SECTION!

We asked our lovely members to write a bit about their personal businesses! We invite you to participate of this new section in future editions of The Wayfarer as well! It doesn't matter if it's a proper Business or a small Start up. The idea is to share with others this path of being an expat and an enterpreneur, and encourage those who that are bitten by the same bug to follow their dreams!

HOW NOT TO LOVE THE ORGANIZATION! BY CARMINA RODRIGUEZ, SSA RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL

Our life as expatriates around the world forces us to continually live with change, whether in cultures, languages, beliefs, etc. And one of the most important things I have learned in these 16 years of being abroad is to have an organized life. I am not referring to having an impeccable house, but rather to obtain organizational habits that facilitate our routine, leaving our spaces more functional and practical. Being organized is doing things efficiently, using time wisely, and finding the things you need when you need them.

8

Being organized avoids to buy things twice, because you will always know where you have everything, which helps your domestic economy greatly. Therefore, you have enough time left to do the things you like and enjoy the most. Most of us have things in our spaces that we don't use or that we don't need. In fact, most of us have far more stuff than we're capable of using in our lives. Put simply, clutter is stuff you have but don't love, use, need, or makes you happy. When you truly love, use and need the things you have there is much more clarity, harmony, peace and order in your life. It is very logical that the fewer things you have, the less you have to take care of, save, fix, clean, protect and you gain time to focus on what really matters to you: your family, your hobbies, travel, rest, learn new things, work on your projects, etc.

9

The energy in a messy space is stopped, stuck, does not move and, consequently, everything around you is affected. It is not to speak lightly when we say that our exterior is a reflection of our interior and the good news is that changing the space that surrounds you brings wonderful benefits to your mind, your health and your emotional state. Have you ever thought about the time it takes you to move useless things from one location to another? This is where you see the real benefits of having an organized, lighter and more harmonious life. We were all affected by the arrival of the pandemic, we were deprived of our freedom to go out in order to take care of our health and that of our family. Our house became the main character and we saw the need to work as a team, leading an organized routine and understand that the organization within the house cannot fall on one person. The pandemic came to give a "general pause" to think and reflect on our environment and reflect on our consumption habits: Why do I need 4 scissors in my kitchen? Is it necessary to keep that new dress if two years have passed and I haven't worn it? Is it necessary to buy on Black Friday, just because there are discounts, do I need to buy more things?

10

Today I share 10 thoughts that will make you consider and motivate you to have a more organized life: 1. You don't need more space but you do need fewer things. 2. You can't use what you can't see. 3. Keep only what you love, need and makes you happy! 4. Don't procrastinate. 5. The organization does not seek perfection. 6. Practice detachment. 7. Disorder is indecision. 8. Your exterior is a reflection of your interior. 9. When you let go, it's not about having less, it's about making room for what really matters. 10. Things are at our service and not the other way around.

MY ORGANIZED LIFE AND HOUSE BY NAY KRAMER, SSA NEUQUEN, ARGENTINA

An organized home is the key to family well-being. My organization is based on two methods: Konmari and Flylady. Both help to improve order and maintain it, in a pleasant and efficient way. Konmari: This method of organization is ideal for those who want to change their lifestyle but don't know where to start. The book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, by Marie Kondo, is an organization manual that is based on order education, showing techniques and theories developed by the author Marie Kondo.

12

Flylady: It is a lifestyle that puts time at the center. This method will help you manage your schedules and tasks efficiently and optimize your routines, based on the multifacets of life: Home, Family, Individual, Society, etc. 1. We know that the organization does help to have more quality time with the family and their environment. 2. Optimizes work time, increasing productivity. 3. Provide experiences at their highest quality and reduce daily stress From experience, organizing our house often has effects on other important areas of our lives. Starting with the place where we spend most of our lives is the beginning of a more pleasant life and a structured family.

TEN TIPS TO TAKE CARE OF FACIAL SKIN BY JENNIFER PÉREZ MONTOYA, SSA BOGOTA, COLOMBIA

To keep our facial skin healthy, it is not enough to apply moisturizer whenever we feel that the skin is dry. At the same time, it is not enough to undergo facial treatments when we already see that we have an issue. Follow these 10 facial skin care tips to achieve and maintain a healthy, youthful and radiant skin. 1. Be consistent: It is useless to take care of our skin only when we see that its appearance is not what we expect. In skin care, prevention is key and consistency even more so. 2. Know what type of skin you have: Not all skins are the same and for this reason there are different types of products for its care. It is essential to know our skin to choose the perfect allies. (See Skin Types below) 3. Cleanse your face twice a day: Cleaning the facial skin is essential for all other care to be successful. At least, wash your face twice a day: in the morning to eliminate the toxins that are released when you sleep and at night to enhance the restorative function of sleep and, of course, to remove dirt from the day and make-up. 4. Choose your moisturizer with the help of a specialist. Moisturizing cream is a must. The dermis is made up of 70% water and the epidermis by 15%. Hydration is essential and, therefore, let yourself be advised by a specialist when making your choice.

14

5. Apply moisturizer twice a day: It is common to think that moisturizer should only be applied before bed, but it should also be applied in the morning. It is recommended that the day cream be different from the night cream since the functioning of the skin is different. 6. Remove make-up well, but gently: At night, remove make-up well so that the regeneration of the skin when sleeping is effective. It is important to clean it daily so we do not use makeup, because the dirt of the day also affects the health of the skin. 7. Take special care of the eye area: The skin around the eyes is especially thin, sensitive and even more prone to dehydration. Hydrate this area as much as you can. 8. Exfoliate your skin: As a general rule, we should exfoliate the skin twice a week. However, the frequency will change depending on your skin type: oily skin needs more exfoliation than dry skin. 9. Protect yourself from the sun: Even if it's just to go to work, apply sunscreen and make sure that this cream is the last product you apply in your skincare routine. Then you can start with the makeup that you like the most. 10. Perform aesthetic treatments to enhance the care of your routine: Aesthetic treatments will help you keep your skin clean and perfect. A facial cleaning a year is highly recommended!!

15

Skin can be classified into four types. However, keep in mind that factors such as pollution, hormonal change, climate or age can temporarily alter the production of sebaceous glands and change the texture of the skin. Therefore, you have to be vigilant to add or change products in your skincare routine. Normal skin: It does not require special care, although it should not be neglected much. It is ideal to have a care routine that keeps it healthy, since over time it tends to become dry skin. How to identify it? Regular texture and without imperfections. Good blood circulation. Balanced, soft and elastic. Uniform color. Oily skin: It is the skin with the brightest appearance because it is the one that accumulates the greatest amount of sebum. This type of skin requires a routine and special care, it must be exfoliated often to avoid dirt and reduce oiliness. Hormonal imbalance, genetics, age, climate, diet, among other factors, influence excess fat. How to identify it? Enlarged pores clearly visible. Excess oiliness. Thickened and pale skin: blood vessels may not be visible. Pimples and blackheads. Acne.

16

Mixed skin: It is identified when not all areas of the face remain in the same conditions during the day. It is a combination between normal skin and oily skin. This type of skin is the most difficult to care for due to its mixture of characteristics. It is recommended to moisturize constantly and exfoliate once a week. How to identify it? Black spots and shine in the T zone. Some open pores in the T zone. Cheeks with a tendency to dry out easily and in need of hydration, especially when it's cold or breezy. Dry Skin: It has a tendency to peeling and redness due to lack of hydration. It is highly affected by climatic changes and constantly requires moisturizing creams that favor the production of collagen and elastin, to keep it balanced and healthy. How to identify it? Rougher and more scaly appearance. Without natural shine and rather dull. Sensation of tightness and in some cases itching.

BREASTFEEDING, WEANING AND GUILT BY ALEJANDRA BERNAL, SSA NEUQUEN, ARGENTINA

Breastfeeding your baby creates such a special, unique and inexplicable bond. However, it is very difficult to wean your baby, especially when he is a Titsaur like my children have been. Matías, 6 years old, whom I fed until he was 2 years and 2 months old, and Salvador de 2 years and 6 months to which until now I am weaning. Feeling guilt in this process is very normal, to the point of crying with them when they ask us to feed them. In my particular case, with Salvador it has become really painful on an emotional level, because he is a pandemic baby, his first years were in isolation and locked up at home. Each story with each child is different. My recommendations for this moment are: First, to be clear about why you want to stop breastfeeding. My main reason is that I am physically exhausted because when my son asks to eat at dawn, I can't sleep well and I need to be with energy for him and his brother during the day.

18

Second, start to reduce the daily intakes. Salvador at this point was only asking at night to sleep and during the early hours of the morning. Third and very important, is to talk to them about your tiredness, that even when they are not breastfed you are still there for them. Hug them a lot; because they feel they're losing the great love of their life, their Mom, as they grow up. And lastly, be strong, do not take steps back once you have made the decision. Physically, breast pain is hard. Particularly, I did not take medication so as not to stop milk production. It was one week of pain, when I used to shower with hot water to drain until it decreased, as per my medical indications. Although it can become exhausting to breastfeed our children, it is the best option. I would never regret it. There are innumerable benefits for them and for us, without a doubt. It's a beautiful experience with the result of having healthy and happy children.

I AM BLUE BY ANGÉLICA AYALA, SSA BOGOTA, COLOMBIA

It's been 22 years since I became part of this great SLB family, which allowed me to meet beautiful people and build great, lifetime friendships. I raised my family and got to know wonderful places, that I was able to enjoy and share with family members. I have had the opportunity to get to know different continents and cultures without having to leave the country, thanks to this wonderful group called SSA. Its members made our stay in each new location pleasant and helped it to become familiar. Thanks to these people the process became more bearable, especially during our first transfer that was the most difficult since we leave everything behind and we face a new, unknown adventure, full of concerns, curiosities and mixed feelings. I am Blue because thanks to that I forced myself to learn 2 languages, to prove myself that I am selfsufficient and a real fighter. I could prepare myself and I adapted to the new environment in which I was to such an extent that in each location I never stopped enjoying every moment with my family, loved ones and friends. I made friends in each new adventure, with whom I am still in contact with. Despite not being together anymore, we share teachings, advice, laughter and more. Similarly, my daughters made great friends, that they keep until today.

20

Being Blue filled me with a spirit of collaboration and volunteering. I had the opportunity of becoming a SSA member and today, I am part of the SSA Board from where I can contribute with a grain of sand giving service to others in a reciprocal way for everything received. I am grateful for every moment lived and for those that remain to be lived. That's why I'm Blue.

ACTIVITIES ART WITH FLUID ACRYLICS

BY YAJAIRA BONILLA, SSA MEXICO CITY, MEXICO

This pictorial technique, suitable for any age, invites you to drop paint on a canvas or any object to obtain different shapes and fun effects, depending on the movements made. Fluid art uses acrylics mixed with a medium which, poured onto a canvas or object, gives rise to different and original images. Since it is not difficult to make and does not require many materials or much space, it is perfect for any level and age.

GRAND OPENING: TAUBATE! BY BARBARA GODIM, SSA TAUBATE, BRAZIL

My name is Barbara Godim, I’m brazilian, my professions are Tourist Guide For Rio de Janeiro and Pastry Chef. I have two children (Lucas 10 and Luisa 6) and I've been participating of SSA since 2007 when we moved to Trinidad & Tobago. I learned a lot there, I learned to speak in English and Spanish through the socialization that SSA provided us and I made several friends who remain until nowadays. To have learnt Spanish with my SSA friends was fundamental for our later time in Venezuela. When we got back to Macaé in 2010, I participated in the Board as Welcome Coordinator. At this time we met a HR Manager who told us that he gave a lot of importance to the SSA: if the family is not happy the employee won’t be happy either! The SSA support with the spouses in their new locations is very important because it is the network that can help with places to live, schools for the children, doctors, places to go, supermarket, etc. Even friends who become family make a great difference in a new location. Then we were transferred to Houston, where we stayed for a few years. The SSA support was always fantastic wherever we go. In November 2019, I realized the true value of SSA to us expats when we were transferred to a city with no SSA (Taubaté, São Paulo - Brazil). I found it challenging and the Pandemic made it more difficult. In the secondhalf of 2020 I contacted the LAM Coordinator, at this time it was Nina and then Maryesther, who helped me a lot and we started the

23

processes to open a chapter here. In 2021 we created the SSA Taubaté Chapter. Little by little we are gaining more trust with SLB base (factory here) and Maryesther is always supporting and guiding us. Opening a chapter here was very important not only for me but for others who arrived in the middle of the Pandemic in a strange place, without much information, deadlines and duties with children, far from family and without much support. Being able to meet, talk, be understood, exchange experiences, is priceless! We shouldn't take it for granted! Today we have a board composed of: Chapter coordinator (me), Activities coordinator (Samira Scussiato), Welcome Coordinator (Beatriz Alfonso) e Treasure (Andressa Freguglia) and until now we are 15 members.

REACTIVATION OF SSA NEUQUEN BY SSA NEUQUEN BOARD, ARGENTINA

After so many difficult days in the Pandemic, of isolation, losses and a lot of uncertainty, the SSA Neuquén Argentina decides to be reactivated in May 2022. Putting a lot of own effort and understanding the importance of sharing with others the experience that it turns out to have a spouse at Schlumberger and being in foreign lands. Seeing each other again, telling us how and what we did to not despair on those days was really enriching. We also used the opportunity to plan beautiful things for the future. This meeting made all of us who are participating of SSA value what it means, the support we receive from each other and how necessary is to count on those moments of relaxation and exchange of cultures and experiences.

25

In addition to holding meetings, we joined forces to collaborate with the Nursing Home of the Sisters by making a donation, an act of love and solidarity that fills us with great satisfaction.

We hope to continue with our meetings and have everything necessary for it. Hopefully, we will continue to show you every nice things we do at SSA Neuquén, Argentina.

BIG EVENTS IN VILLAHERMOSA BY IRINA GARAEVA, SSA VILLAHERMOSA, MEXICO

The Villahermosa location is pretty numerous: today we have more than 120 SSA members. During the Pandemic in 2020 and 2021, as in many other locations, we couldn’t organize big events. We could manage with online meetings and caravans with thematic photosets to cheerup our members. Finally, by the end of March 2022 we got the local HSE approval for organizing our first breakfast! As it was the 1st presential event after so long, the Board prepared a surprise for its participants: after the super-delicious breakfast at Courtyard by Marriott hotel they were proposed to make their own terrarium with small plants inside. The activity was very welcomed by SSA members. The only problem was the restrictions of 60 people for this event as the Pandemic haven't finished yet, which limited the attendance.

27

The second big event in 2022 was dedicated to Mother’s and Father’s Days. Mother’s Day is one of the most important holidays in Mexico along with the Independence Day, the Day of the Dead and Christmas. Considering that we have an active male member in our local SSA chapter we’ve decided to combine both celebrations. Also, we took into consideration that usually SSA events are organized in the morning, when some ladies with children can’t go or working ladies can’t participate. So, we’ve decided to have a dinner this time. Moreover, we were lucky because at the same day of our event Gabriela Morales González, a sommelier from Mexico Barón Balché wine house, visited the restaurant that we had decided to book. We got the opportunity to have a free degustation class from this sommelier and it was reeeeeeally great! A wonderful combination of wine and snacks has become a pleasant addition to our program of congratulations, meeting newcomers, birthday greetings and thanksgiving to active participants of our charity activities!

28

The situation with Covid-19 is getting better here in general but worse during some months (like in June). Anyway, we do hope that we can continue organizing real life activities for SSA members in Villahermosa. We’re expecting the wonderful autumn and winter events ahead! Stay tuned. We are always happy to sharephotos/videos from our events on SSA Global Community Facebook page. Wish all the SSA members and their families great summer vacations!

BALLET DINNER BY CAROLINA IGLESIAS, SSA BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA

This event was organized to meet again as SSA Buenos Aires after having a committee changed. The meeting was held in two very important places in the city of Buenos Aires. The dinner took place in a restaurant in Puerto Madero, recognized in this city for its modern architectural beauty that contrasts with the eclectic style of the rest of the city of Buenos Aires. In Puerto Madero there is also a wide variety of restaurants that are well known for their its delicious gastronomic variety. Later, a few steps away is the mythical Luna Park stadium, which has been scene of great milestones of Argentine culture, from boxing to music in all its dimensions. There we witness the well-known ballet Giselle, performed by the National Ballet of Ukraine. A world-renowned work that on this occasion had a special meaning since its dancers showed the flag of their country at the end of the performance and informed us that all proceeds will go to the Ukrainian army.

30

It was a very emotional and fun night for all of us who make the SSA Buenos Aires in which we shared our experiences of the last months and we were very happy to see each other again.

31

UNWRAPPING OUR CREATIVITY: CROCHET BY YAJAIRA BONILLA, SSA MEXICO CITY, MEXICO

Crochet with two needles In our crochet course we worked with two aluminum and/or wooden needles, which mimic knit stitches, the popular casting method for beginners. This knitting method taught us how to cast long braids on two needles, making the edges more stretchable and ideal for wide stitches.

This experience kept us with busy hands, calm minds and happy hearts. We learned that the art of weaving is a job where time, effort, patience and a lot of love are invested, achieving a wonderful fabric that nourishes us with satisfaction.

32

With crochet we contemplated the present moment and enjoyed the wonders we achieve with crafts.

SSA ACTIVITIES RIO DE JANEIRO 2022 BY GABRIELA PEREZ JIMENEZ, SSA RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL

Hello, we are the SSA of Rio de Janeiro and through this story we will share the activities carried out this year. In February we met for a delicious breakfast in Barra da Tijuca, which is a set of condominiums and commercial areas located along the extensive Barra Beach. The meeting point was a Café facing the sea, in which we took the opportunity to welcome three new members. We spent a different morning and, as it was the first event of the year, we were able to talk about the possible events of the following months. In March we decided to hold two events at the same time, a Coffee Morning and Board Members Elections, which took place at the Gavea Golf Club, a private club located in the São Corrado area in the southern part of the city with a beautiful view of the mountain called Piedra de Gavea and surrounded by many green areas. Once again we took the opportunity to welcome new members to the SSA.

34

In May we held our long-awaited Annual General Meeting, and since it was our special event, we did it in a cafe located inside Parque Lage, which is a public park located at the foot of the Corcovado hill on the same street as the well-known Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro, this park measures more than 52 hectares and belongs to the historical and cultural heritage of the city. It is important to mention that next to the cafe where we hold our AGM, the Institute of Fine Arts still operates. This cafe is inside an old Palace from the years 1811 that is very well preserved and is surrounded by a beautiful forest and gardens built in the European style. In the month of June we wanted to take advantage of the tasty autumn weather to do a City Tour with a bilingual guide through the historic center of the city of Rio de Janeiro, which allowed us to visit and get to know the following places:

35

Municipal Theater, is the most important theater in the city and is located in the center with easy access by subway, dates back to 1909 and still boasts an imposing architecture and works of art by renowned Brazilian artists of the time. National Library, also located in the center of the city and cataloged by UNESCO as one of the largest libraries in Latin America and was inaugurated at the end of the year 1810. Cathedral, named as the São Sebastião Cathedral and Metropolitan Cathedral of Rio, inaugurated in 1979 with an imposing modernist-style architecture that resembles a 96-meter-high truncated cone. Largo de Carioca, which is an open space to walk around the vicinity of the metro station known as La Carioca, is considered the heart of the city center, with its high volume of people throughout the day and various informal economy vendors. that are located there every day, it should be noted that in the 1500s and 1600s it served as a shelter for the most needy who were helped by the Franciscans. Royal Portuguese Reading Cabinet, which is a library and cultural center of the city with a large reading room that just by entering gives you that feeling of grandeur inspired by the neo-Manueline style. This was opened to the public in the 1900s with approximately 350,000 books.

36

And we closed the walk at the Colombo Confectionery, which is a well-known tourist stop not only for its sweets and extensive food menu, but also for its dazzling architecture that reminded us of the confectioneries of the years 1912 and 1918 in the old Capital of the republic.

TRAVEL STORIES WHAT WE MISS MOST ABOUT OUR VENEZUELA BY ALEJANDRA BERNAL, SSA NEUQUEN, ARGENTINA

Without a doubt, being away from our land sometimes becomes difficult, there are so many things and people that you miss. In particular, for the Alcalá Bernal Family one of the most longed for are our Venezuelan beaches, especially the keys in the Falcón State. You can choose between Sombrero, Sal, Los Juanes, Borracho, Peraza, Pelón, Tucupido, Playuela, Paiclás, Pescadores, Boca seca and Muerto, among others. These islets are located in the Morrocoy National Park of Falcón state, They are truly a paradise, it is a a gift of nature, each one is characterized by its crystal clear waters and its soft white sands. Without any doubt the best decision was always to go to the beach.

38

Our last holidays in 2017 were an unforgettable experience: the calm waters allowed total enjoyment even for our very young children. I show you some photos of our beautiful beaches and the vacations that we long for, if you visit Venezuela, do not forget to visit them!

RECIPES EMPANADAS

BY MARYESTHER LEON, SSA RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL

When we talk about food, Latin America has a very wide and varied list. But one that it is constant in a lot of Latin countries is “La Empanada”. An “Empanada” is a Crescent-shaped dough filled with sweet or savory ingredients that is fried in abundant oil or baked in the oven. Nowadays, we can also make a healthier version in the air-fryer. The most common is made from corn flour and it is filled with cheese, meat or chicken, and it represent the breakfast, snack, happy hour with friends or any occasion in a lot of Latin American countries. Ingredients 1 cup of Corn flour 1 cup of water ¼ tea spoon of salt 1 tea spoon of brown sugar Grated white cheese

41

Preparation Mix all the ingredients until you have a uniform dough Make small balls Spread the dough on a plastic surface (it can be a previously washed package) Place the filling (cheese or meat or chicken or as many as you want) in the center of the dough Close the dough forming a crescent-shaped Cook in abundant oil or in an airfrayer
