Service reliability is an important quality characteristic of public transport. This thesis presents an analysis of the causes and of services. Planning instruments are introduced enabling a costeffective increase of service reliability. This thesis demonstrates that during the network and timetable design of public transport several opportunities exist to increase the level of service reliability substantially.
